At the very least they should all (with Just and maybe Stanger) be on the same Heathrow flight enroute to Canberra next month. A chance to talk tactics, pore over some Socceroos footage from the NZF video analyst etc.

I think Garbett is the first ever kiwi to play for Peterborough.

Don’t forget the God Father - Woodsy…

Only a 1 hour commute to his good friend Stamenić too! Cacace and Bindon not too far away either. Can imagine a fair few meetups between the All Whites boys this year.

Sounds like Posh manager wants to make 3-4 more signings, so hopefully they strengthen. He’s also open about wanting to get rid of some players. Welcome to the brutal world of UK club football!!

Crucial thing is looks like Garbs wont be bench warming for long if they are struggling. After so long out of the game, he badly needs playing time.

Baze will be happy, and so the AWs captain as well. I imagine quietly the Woodsman is very contented to have a cluster of his young national team mates in Blighty, and he'll be keeping a close eye on their progress. Happy to take a ph call and give some sage advice to Garbett, Waine, Bindon, Stamenic, Libby & Paulsen in need. Wood knowing the UK pyramid system like the back of his hand.

Edit - there are Gibraltar and Northern Irish internationals at Wycombe. So some chance any L1 games they have in the Sept window are rescheduled.

Don’t mind that.

In my view the league is better than the A league.

Still stays in the shop window in Europe.

Just now needs to get into the top team and stay there!,

It’s better than the A league in that there are a lot more games and he should get plenty of football into his legs. He should be starting imo.
It also won’t hurt to be playing for a weaker team before playing for the AWs at a WC!

PS. Shout out David Ball.

Speaking before Garbett’s move to Peterborough – teed up by former Wellington Phoenix visa player David Ball – was confirmed on Thursday, Bazeley told Stuff he felt for the 23-year-old, who had been unwanted at his previous club since the start of the year and had remained unsigned deep into the European summer.
“We have to remember this is his job and his life, and right now it’s on hold.”

David Ball having a little bit of success as an agent it seems - NZ an untapped market perhaps for agents??

I'm guessing Ball will be talking to the likes of Supyk, Hughes & LBS - trying to represent them. All with UK heritage (passports?), which comes in handy.

Garbett was born in London (Kiwi dad & French mum) so may also have one.

But yeah Ball will know all about the Weenix Academy and what a conveyer belt of talent it's proving to be. Some scouts would have been watching the Wrexham friendly.

Probably some sympathy on Bally's part for a lad being frozen out of the squad, given he's just seen something pretty similar happen to himself (though for different reasons and at different career stages).

He dosnt have to look very far he told me the talent of some of the young ones in his academy is exceptional.

The coach had said he would be a week or so away from being ready to play – end of the month-ish.

It's almost as if upsetting your manager so much he ostracises you, turning down offers from other clubs, doing nothing for 6 months, then larking about in Bali isn't the best preparation for a League One relegation battle.....

Came on at 67 minutes as part of a quadruple change as Posh chased the game from 1-0 down. Played in an advanced right side midfield role. Fairly involved with a good cross and decent through ball. Posh equalised in the 91st minute for their first point of the season, but still remain bottom of the table. The mighty Bantams remain unbeaten. Peterborough's struggles might mean Garbett could play a bigger part as their manager looks for solutions. But he won't like the fact that the Radio L666ds commentator called him Australian.

And gets a full game plus a yellow.
Unfortunately it's a 3-0 loss and The Posh remain dead last with only 1 point from 6 games so far.

Why are they called the Posh? Are they owned by Mrs Beckham?

No clue, it's certainly not an affluent area. Pretty sure it's consistently one of the worst places in England in terms of poverty and the varying statistics that tend to accompany that (Crime, drugs, etc).

Come to think of it, not many of our Kiwis in the UK are in particularly nice places: Peterborough, Newport, Burslem are all pretty grim. Swansea and Wrexham aren't that great. I've got a mate from Scotland who wouldn't recommend Motherwell.

Our boys sure know how to pick em.

Gdansk may not be that bad after all. Trust that Crocombe has found a leafy pretty part of South London to lay down his head each night.

The Origin of "The Posh"
  • Pat Tirrell's Comment:
  • In 1921, Fletton United's player/manager Pat Tirrell announced he was seeking "posh players for a posh new team". "Posh" in this context simply meant "good" or high-quality.

  • Derogatory Use:
  • The press began using "Posh" in a derogatory way to describe the team, which was a far cry from the original meaning of the word.

  • Adoption by Fans:
  • When the Fletton side later reformed as Peterborough and Fletton United in 1923, the nickname persisted. When a new club, now known as Peterborough United, formed in 1934 after the previous club went bankrupt, the supporters greeted them with chants of "Up The Posh!".

  • From Derogatory to Official
  • A Permanent Moniker:
  • The fans' chanting transformed the term from an insult into a widely accepted nickname that has stayed with the club ever since.

  • The Nickname Today:
  • Today, "The Posh" is a well-known and integral part of the club's identity and tradition.

The Red Devils. I mean they both finished towards the bottom of the table and on and off the field might be construed as a shambles.

Known about Peterborough’s nickname for ages, but had no idea it was sarcastic! Had in mind a little rich countryside village type place.

First 1st team start for Garbett.

As a Charlton supporter, I'm chuffed to see Matt lining up alongside Kyrell Lisbie, son of former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie who played more than 100 games for the Addicks in their Premier League years 1998-2007. His greatest moment was a hat-trick against Liverpool in 2003 in a 3-2 win.
Kyrell's dad is a regular on Charlton TV panel discussions and was recently talking about his sons and their careers.
Kyrell has a twin brother Kyreece and they played for the same clubs until recently, including a stint as teenagers playing alongisde their dad, Kevin at Cray Valley Paper Mills at the end of his playing career.
Both brothers played for Tommy Smith's new club Braintree Town last season.

London, Birmingham and Glasgow are all worse cities, they just happen to have nice areas.

Peterborough is really not that bad. It's similar to Palmerston North. Not much going on.

Champions might be a little more ironically apt for the Nix.

Aside from one or two seasons, we are generally quite good at winning.
