Boxy an unused subs in a 3-1 loss

Not often Boxall snr is on the bench these days. But Minny do have a heavy schedule of 7 games in 21 days, with couple of Cup games, and there is a fair amount of flying in the MLS. So likely just a rest.

Raúl Ruidíaz who could lineup against the AWs for Peru in a few weeks, one of Seattle's scorers.

From Flying Kiwis. Actually with luck, AWs may only be missing Singh & Thomas out injured. Though Callum McCowatt did miss last two Helsingor games.

Boxall got another yellow card midway through the first half. Shouldered a dude off the ball and was pretty furious when the call went against him and the card came out but that card might not be the worst as it means he’ll be suspended for their next MLS game due to accumulation.

There’s a US Open Cup game before then but once that’s done Boxy will presumably be free to join up with the All Whites WCQ camp a few days earlier than expected. At the very least he’ll avoid the risk of any last gasp injuries such as what happened to him before the Olympics. Danny Hay will be pleased.

Full game for Boxall snr, as in a bit of a shock Minnesota United lose 1-2 to 3rd tier (USL League One) Union Omaha in the US Open Cup, round of 16.

Giant killers Omaha are only 9th in USL League One at the moment as well, not like they killing it in that league. Unless Sacramento beat San Jose later today, Omaha will be the only non MLS team in the quarters.

Boxall now free to fly to Spain to join the AWs.

Everyone should now be in, or on their way to Marbella except - Kirwan, Tuiloma, Bell, de Vries, Pijnaker & Rogerson

Edit - not Boxy's best game from the highlights.

Minnesota United (8th in the West) host last seasons MLS champions New York City (2nd in the East).

Boxall suspended, so likely enroute to Marbella if not already arrived.

Edit - Minny lose 0-1. Stay 8th.

Minny win 2-0.
Argentinian Emanuel Reynoso with his 8th & 9th goals of the season.
Last 3 games he has scored it has been a double.

Minnesota (stay 5th in the West) in good form lately and host Everton in a friendly in a few days. Toffies lost to Arsenal 2-0 in Baltimore today.

Flying Kiwis.

MLS.com: “The backline features three central defenders: Jakob Glesnes (Philadelphia Union), Henry Kessler (New England Revolution) and Michael Boxall (Minnesota). Glesnes had a headed assist on Daniel Gazdag’s 1-0 corner-kick winner at Orlando City SC; Kessler’s goal-line heroics helped silence Cucho Hernandez and the Columbus Crew in a 0-0 road draw; and Boxall was nearly flawless as Minnesota stayed red-hot.”

Not giving an abundance of detail there but the important thing is that Michael Boxall cracked the MLS Team of the Week. His first starting berth this season, having also been named as a substitute in week six. Bill Tuiloma has two TOW apps in 2022 plus one more as a sub.

Watched most of the second half. 10 min to go 4 - 4 and a yellow card every 2 mins for some pretty soft challenges.

Defending was honking. Lots of lazy attackers not tracking players, so overlaps everywhere. Entertaining to watch, a chaotic mess of goals.

Yes no shortage of action. Full game & a yellow for Boxall, Billy T an unused sub.
9 yellows over the game.

Minny stay 3rd, Timbers up to 7th (last playoff spot).

Minny (3rd in the West) travel to Colorado Rapids (10th)
Boxall snr suspended

https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2022/08/07/united-states/mls/colorado-rapids/nsc-minnesota-stars/3709548/

Edit - Minny an exciting watch at the moment. After 4-4 against Portland it's a 4-3 loss in Colorado.

They drop to 4th. Rapids actually had a 5-4 win at New York RB midweek. Plenty of goals in the MLS, in the summer sun.

Consecutive 3-0 losses for Minny. This one at home. Concede all 3 goals to Dallas (3rd in the West) in an insane 4 min period (55-58th mins).

All starts with a Boxy oggie. Then a 69th send off of Fragapane, one of MU’s best players stymies any comeback. They drop to 5th
