Reversing the roles and the trope, Cuba Gooding Jr could be played by Paul Ifill and Tom Cruise by Michael McGlinchy.

He could be justified for saying "Show me the money!"

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

When the Roar changed ownership, Ange didn't sign his new deal but he saw out the season, I assume he was still being paid the whole time. He used the fact he didn't sign the new contract to move to the Victory after the season had finished. So this is not the first time this issue has arisen in the A-League. The Roar just didn't try to dig their feet in over it.

The problem comparing the clubs from around the world to the A-League, is the way it is structured. Owners pay for the right to administer the clubs, I don't think they really own them. Both the Jets and Phoenix had licences taken back by the FFA and they then gave them to new 'owners' against the wishes of their current owners. You can't sell an A-League club afaik, you hand back your licence and the FFA then sell it to the new owner.

When Charlesworth took over, im sure the FFA probably would have included a condition that all players had to offered their contracts again, otherwise the PFA would be pissed. Whether a player wishes to sign his new contract is up to him.

When the Knights licence was taken off the owners midway through season two a raft of players left in this exact situation if you all remember.

No CCM was a transfer not a removal or withdrawal by FFA - NZF got the licence then and let Century Football use it. Think change to Welnix was withdrawal and reassignment . Most likely wrong.

But key is  who is the agreement between.

I'm ignoring Terry and the Nix, just looking at what happened part way through season two when the Knights owners handed the club back to the FFA and NZF (Soccer then?) taking over with Mr. Herbert in charge.

When Ffa seized the license off Clive Palmer, it apparently took a lot of work to convince the GCU players to sign contracts to with the FFA so that GCU could play out the rest of the season. Key thing there is that they had to sign new contracts.

He said the decision had nothing to do with the contract dispute surrounding the player - both the Phoenix and A-League rivals Central Coast Mariners claim to hold valid contracts for the Wellington-born playmaker.

"Ernie wants to give him a couple more days and not rush him into contact," Dome said.

"He'll play an intrasquad game later this week. Nothing to do with arbitration, it's purely to do with the fact that Ernie doesn't want to rush him. He's been on holiday for a while so he's got to ease him back into it."

A Mariners spokesman said the McGlinchey dispute was in mediation again yesterday.

Professional Footballers Australia is backing McGlinchey's right to play for the Phoenix, while Football Federation Australia is yet to make a ruling on the player's status.

It is understood that a teleconference took place last night between the Phoenix, Mariners, PFA, FFA and an independent arbitrator

Further complicating matters apparently the signatory to the contract on McGlinchey's side was "Michael McGlinchey Football Enterprises (2011) Ltd" a shell company set up in the Bahamas for tax reasons. Shareholders in the company are "Michael McGlinchey Holdings (1999) Ltd", "McGlinchey Media Properties Pty", "WeeMac Corporation (in liquidation)", "McGlinchinberger GmbH" and Sony Records.

The person Michael McGlinchey does not actually exist. The man you see playing football as "Michael McGlinchey" is actually the well known performance capture actor Andy Serkis wearing prosthetic make-up, who is an independent contractor to Michael McGlinchey Football Enterprises (2011) Ltd.

From the Telie .. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/football/central-coast-mariners-players-given-a-taste-of-the-flip-side-of-life-after-initiative-by-coach-phil-moss/story-fnk6rl6i-1226991516941

MICHAEL McGlinchey’s hopes of playing against English Premier League opponents West Ham and Newcastle United have suffered a blow after his contract dispute entered arbitration.

The Central Coast Mariners maintain McGlinchey is contracted to the club until January, but the Kiwi international opted to join rival A-League club Wellington Phoenix after returning early from Japan, where he was on loan to Vegalta Sendai.

Both clubs claim to hold valid contracts for the 27-year-old midfielder. The confusing situation has left Football Federation Australia little choice but to start a confidential arbitration process with both clubs and McGlinchey.

And it’s unlikely to be resolved before Wellington take on West Ham, Newcastle and Sydney FC in the Football United Tour, to be played in New Zealand next week.

McGlinchey has been training with the Phoenix and was expected to play a pre-season game for them on Monday night. But coach Ernie Merrick had a late change of heart and pulled him from the match.

He claimed that the decision had nothing to do with the dispute, but rather that McGlinchey wasn’t physically ready to play.

Mariners coach Phil Moss was unable to comment on the process, but is hoping for a quick resolution.

“It’s before the PFA (Professional Footballers Association), the FFA and the clubs,” Moss said.

“It has to be resolved soon — it can’t drag on any longer. It’s an unfortunate situation, but the sooner it’s determined, the better.”

McGlinchey has been with the Mariners since 2009 and has made 121 appearances for the club.

Last season he followed former Mariners coach Graham Arnold to Vegalta, but lost his place in the team when Arnold left the club.

Midfielder, that article tells us nothing we already knew and mentions nothing that would stop Wee Mac playing next Wednesday.

In the Football United Tour 2014 App which came out today (very similar to the recent FIFA WC app which was very good I thought), McGlinchey is listed under the Phoenix squad as the number 10. Stirring the pot?

My understanding is both sides want a resolution given replacing him will become important to the club that looses ...

I have heard [not from the strongest sauce ] the Mariners are very confident ....

Very confident of keeping a player who clearly wants to play for someone else?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Maybe but certainty on a longer contract and we can assume more money ...

That's a fair point ... however I have never seen our club take things to this level .. and if this is a clear as the PPA say then FFA would have ruled on it a long time ago ... and to the best of my knowledge the Nix / weeJudas contract has not been signed off by FFA ...

AS for the PPA over maybe 30 years of watching them I am yet to find one time when they sided with a club over a player ...

I have no idea where it stands except to say the bush lawyers on this site should open up a practice as their knowledge and expertise seems to have no equal...

They want him so much, but only from 1 January.  They don't want to pay him before that.
