Presumably he’s already left for the UAE.
Hopefully just jet lag, but his stock does seem to be dropping, going from promotion playoffs to bottom of the table. Not good for him heading into the sharp end of a World Cup campaign, could even end up fourth choice

Finishes 2-0 MVV. Almere are lucky it appears is still no relegation in place for Dutch 2nd tier??
And to think they were so close to getting promoted last season.
And Marinovic certainly appears the no 1 keeper for Hay. I guess his experience is very valuable for a pretty young team, and it appears he's done little wrong in the Oct/Nov games. Sail is likely now his biggest rival for the AWs.
Almere (18th). Their season really is custard already. Luckily no relegation from 2nd tier that I can see.
Their coach Gertjan Verbeek (the ex-Adelaide coach) was sacked during the week, though seems their fans also want their sporting director gone as well. I’m pretty sure said sporting director was in charge for this game. Woud was unavailable as he joined Thomas in the Dutch ‘geblesseerd’ contingent, having suffered a shoulder injury. Not sure how bad the injury is though.
From what I can tell, the move's as good as done, (plus, Woud's followed them on Instagram, nice). Had a torrid past season and really fell out of favour with the fans, hopefully this is a nice fresh start for him

Good find and good on him, those 3(!) Olympic clean sheets must’ve caught the eye. Hopefully he’s in as first choice, because J League is probably top, if not certainly top 3, league in Asia and a very decent spot to be.
Worth remembering he’s only 22, for comparison with the other three keepers in AWs contention: at that age Marinovic (13/14) played once for 1860 Munich II in the Regionalliga Bayern (4th tier), Sail (18/19) played 4 A League games as injury cover for Kurto, and Tzanev (18/19) was on loan at Potters Bar in the English 7th tier.

Still can’t get over that horror game for the all whites so hope he’s up to it, obviously the Japanese scouts didn’t watch that one
Auckland will rise once more

I presume you mean that game for OlyWhites verus Honduras at the Olympics. He has kept 3 clean sheets since that game for the OlyWhites & All Whites combined. Though from video highlights still made the odd clanger in Holland.
Anyway he's absent again as Almere (18th) lose 2-3 to top of the table Volendam.
Last league game until 10th Jan.

New to J1, probably figure he’ll mature a bit and he had a decent game against Japan so…? Maybe it would also be a situation where there’s competition for the keeping spot?
Is there any other kiwi connection apart from the Olympics? I think there were a few kiwi connections to Japan through one of the academies at one point…

Maybe a Dutch connection. Defender Jordy Buijs who had a couple seasons at Sydney FC, is now with Kyoto Sanga.

Almere are having a shark season, and when that happens every team needs a fan scapegoat.

If he can be a starter in J1 that's a good level to be playing at. Should be safe in the air in Japan you'd hope!

Pretty decent effort to spell the guy’s name three different ways in one article

This is true, but doesn't take away from the fact that he has been extremely poor individually this season. Hope this move can rejuvenate him, still has a very high ceiling
I note that Kyoto Sanga now have five first-team goalkeepers, interesting to see what happens there
VUW AFC - Victoria University Football for life
Both teams won in Round 1.
Just searched his name (in Japanese) and yep that seems the case. So situation not as bad as initially thought, ie they’d seen him in training and made him third keeper. No idea when he’d be able to get that sorted, but hopefully soon.

However I'll make an early left field call.
Sail to leave Nix at season end for Europe. Nix to arrange a loan deal for Woud for season 2022/23, with him and Paulsen to fight it out for starting keeper spot.
Been a few J League players out on loan in the A League in recent seasons. But yeah a left field idea, given Woud hasn't even arrived in Nippon yet.
if Sail leaves I'd take Paulsen as #1. Woud needs to get his confidence back and he can do that anywhere he wants - just not at the nix.
Queenslander 3x a year.
No Woud in match day squad.
Edit - finished a 1-1 draw.
A good start to the season so will have his work made out for him to make the team when he is fit and ready

Though he might be in the squad for Sanga's next game.
They had their starting keeper sent off just before HT!! But then their next match is the 13th, day the AWs are to assemble, so who knows.

Edit - finishes 4-1 to Iwata. They were only up 1-0 before the send off.

So presumably not being released for AWs, for first 2 pool games. Neither will Marinovic I'm guessing with his team in a relegation dogfight.
Sail likely in goal then. Searle & Gould as backups?

unlikely to return if he cant even get on the bench in Japan.

Hard to be on the bench when he’s not been in the country until a couple days ago, I’m not surprised he’s still not ready given he hasn’t had more than two days of training in a new team in a new country and language.
As for the AWs, you don’t go from second/third choice to fifth off one game. Fair enough Sail has probably surpassed him, but Searle hasn’t made a squad of adults’ football since he was at Melville and he wasn’t first choice there either, and Gould has played three games all season in the English fifth tier. He’d have been only available during the window and would be behind Marinovic, so it just makes more sense to let him settle in Japan, especially as it sounds so difficult to get back in to the country.
