Also rumours they may be getting Ricardo Carvalho in on a loan. Guess it's not surprising they're looking to strengthen there given the disaster on the weekend.

Yeah the fact he didnt start the last game and is now looking like 2 more CBs will be added makes me wonder how much game time he was really expecting - or if he knew he was just there as a backup backup backup backup

He is probably still in the front line for the next match, he knows the league, has captaincy qualities and was on the bench last game

According to reports this morning, QPR are close to signing both Dawson and Carvalho. If both these transfers go through, can't really see Nelsen having a first team role.

Permalink Permalink

If both do get signed, even a spot on the bench would be tough for him to get.

Good thing he skipped those pesky all whites matches during the OFC nations cup. It really paid off for him.

Latest word is that Dawson has refused to leave Spurs despite the two clubs agreeing on a transfer fee. He's planning to fight for his spot and would only move to a club that will "match his ambitions".

Not sure about the state of the Carvalho loan but it seems to be in early days so there's still a little hope for Nelsen. Hopefully he'll get a start tonight after last weeks train wreck but I'm slightly doubtful to be honest - I have a feeling Mark Hughes might give the centre backs another chance.

Not even on the bench this afternoon. Was he injured?

I don't believe so. Things aren't looking great for him, 4th choice centre-back and could get worse with more signings.

Could have had a half if he was on the bench, Clint Hill was subbed at half-time.

He had a solid game. Had a couple chances to score, but was probably at fault for the 2nd goal.

Full 90 in a nil all draw, must be pleased with that

And this " referee Andre Marriner decided Ryan Nelsen was not guilty of grappling Terry to the floor from a free-kick"

Played a good game, really came into it in the second half. Had a couple of crucial interceptions/tackles. And that wasn't really close to a penalty.

 From the Herald

All Whites and Queens Park Rangers defender Ryan Nelsen has labelled Chelsea defender John Terry's penalty claim during their Premier League clash on Sunday as 'embarrassing'.

Publicly snubbed by two Queens Park Rangers players and taunted relentlessly by their fans, Terry departed Loftus Road amid accusations by Nelsen that he had collapsed in an attempt to win a penalty.

Nelsen took issue with the Chelsea captain after Roberto Di Matteo had claimed a first-half tussle between the pair was "a 100 per cent, stonewall penalty" missed by referee Andre Marriner.

"I'm really surprised Roberto said that," said Nelsen. "He was nowhere near the ball, was never going to win it, so he just fell down. He was just trying to get a penalty.

"I was holding him, of course, but he just fell down. He does it to everybody in their box. I said to him: 'That was a bit embarrassing' and he laughed when he ran off.

"If the referee gives that, it's ridiculous. If you really know the game, that's never a penalty. It happens all the time."

It is one more insult in an acrimonious feud between these London neighbours which has simmered since October, when Terry was accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, charged and then cleared in court. An FA case is now pending and the mood has not improved.

Ferdinand and Rangers captain Park Ji-sung refused to shake hands with Terry. Ferdinand also chose not to shake the hand of Ashley Cole, who gave evidence in the court case in July. Cole added to the poisonous atmosphere by turning away and spitting after Ferdinand's snub.

The move by Park, a former Manchester United team-mate of Anton's brother Rio, adds to the feeling that United players may follow suit when they visit Stamford Bridge next month.

Rangers boss Mark Hughes repeated his call for the entire handshake parade to be scrapped but the Premier League are determined to see it continue.

"I thought he was fantastic, with all unnecessary pressure on him. To put in a performance like he did showed the character of the man."

Ferdinand, who tweaked a hamstring late in the goalless draw, Terry and Nelsen were outstanding. The latter quashing the threat of Fernando Torres, who stormed down the tunnel when he was replaced.

It raised questions about Chelsea's wisdom of having only one established striker, although Daniel Sturridge looked sharp when he replaced the Spaniard.

"Daniel will get chances to play and more chances in the middle," said Di Matteo. As for Torres, he added: "It's not a problem. We move on from this."

QPR fear Andy Johnson may have suffered a serious knee injury in what seemed an innocuous clash with Eden Hazard.

Nelsen said: "I don't think anybody in Anton's situation would have done it. He just said: 'This is my personal thing, whatever you guys (want to) do, do it'."

Former Tottenham defender excited about Sunday showdown at WHL

The only way you can win games in the Premier League is by having a positive, professional approach."

Ryan Nelsen

RYAN Nelsen returns to White Hart Lane tomorrow with a burning desire to turn performances into points at his new club.

Nelsen was arguably one of the R’s star performers against Chelsea last weekend, as Mark Hughes’s men pushed the European Champions all the way in an entertaining goalless draw in W12.

Whilst the New Zealander was understandably pleased with Rangers’ display against their West London rivals, the Kiwi skipper is fully aware that the R’s will need to produce a similarly positive performance to get anything from his former club this weekend.

"I'm really looking forward to going back to Spurs,” he told www.qpr.co.uk.

"I had a great time at White Hart Lane for the brief period I was there and just like the last two matches we've played, we're coming up against another big, big club.

"We know it's going to be a very hard game and if we're not firing on all cylinders, this league is very unforgiving.

"We'll need to be mentally and physically strong to get a positive result.

"The only way you can win games in the Premier League is by having a positive, professional approach.”

Nelsen - who made eight appearances during his six month spell at White Hart Lane - was one of 12 signings to arrive at Loftus Road in the summer transfer window and although he acknowledges it will take time to gel, he is happy to admit he is seeing signs of improvements day by day on the training ground.

"It was always going to take time but we're gelling nicely now,” he said.

"There's a lot of hard work ahead and I'm sure there'll be a few bumps along the way, but if we strive for improvements, performances will turn into points.

"Consistency is key in this division. We need to produce what we produced against Chelsea at Spurs this weekend and if we do that then we can give anyone a game as we proved.

Playing today against WBA, full 90, 3 - 2 loss, anchored to the bottom of the table

Nelsen was captain today in a 1 nil loss against Arsenal. QPR not happy with the officials, so it happens in the Premier league as well as the A League. Not sure of the rules about players off the pitch ?? Would have to see it to know exactly what they were talking about, Maybe just a moan from Hughes

"Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Hughes said: “How the referee hasn’t given the decision to us [for Arteta’s goal] I have no idea. That's absolutely killed us.
“We’ve been in to see the officials and they’ve come up with some cock and bull story about Ryan Nelsen being off the pitch and playing him onside. I’ve got absolutely no idea what they’re on about!
“Prior to the sending off I was actually making a positive substitution because I thought we looked the most likely to win the game.
“The sending off is a disappointment. At that stage it was hard to take because I felt we were in total control of the game.
“We have to make the right decisions at key moments in games and unfortunately this year we’ve done things that have hurt us and haven’t been able to recover from them.”
Despite defeat, Hughes was satisfied with the performance of his team against the Gunners.
“We played really, really well against a good Arsenal side who, given their last couple of results, were looking for a really positive performance.
“We worked to our game plan really well.
“From our point of view it’s a very good, professional away performance but once again we haven’t got any reward for it.
“We played really well against Everton, we played really well today. In terms of performances we’re building as people are getting used to playing together.”
Defeat means the R’s remain bottom of the table but Hughes is confident their next run of fixtures can provide opportunities to put points on the board."

Haven't seen the incident, but if a defender finds himself off the pitch behind the goal-line for whatever reason, he's counted as being on the goal-line for the purpose of adjudicating the offside law.

Definitely unfortunate for QPR. Ryan was behind the goal-line getting treatment for an injury.

Permalink Permalink

100% that Ryan definitely wasn't off the pitch getting treatment for an injury. Just watched replay and he's right there in the scramble when the goal is scored. QPR did have a player off the pitch behind the goal a couple of minutes before the goal, but not at the time of the goal.

Video on here shows him clearly on the pitch and actually fell on Cesar. There was a trainer behind the goal line

Maybe he has too much on his mind coaching the AWs and the phoenix, as well as playing for QPR. Mark Hughes should really just say enough is enough and make him choose between the roles.

Surely if that was the case then he wouldn't need to seek the referee's approval to re enter the field. Logic would suggest if you're off the field then you can't interfere one way or the other wouldn't it?

No. The rule is primarily there to prevent defenders merely stepping out of the field of play to make the opponents offside. It's slightly different for attacking players, they can step out to demonstrate they're not interfering, but can't take advantage of the fact that they'd stepped out.

I guess that makes sense. Seems a bit of a disadvantage though if your CB is off injured receiving treatment behind the goal line making everybody onside, ie a man down and no offside rules.

Permalink Permalink

Right, that makes more sense. You'd have to be pretty on to it to take advantage of a situation like that, good to know though.
