you'd think with the club brining in new defenders he'd be wondering what the story was, Nix could do with a young centre back in the new reserve/youth team

Queenslander 3x a year.

He's more likely to pick up a deal playing for the Town reserves (or out on loan)  than being behind Siggy and Dura here.

Would he be behind Siggy in the Pecking order here? He is playing really well, but Ricky preferred Smith (albeit in a back three) at the World Cup

Surely on current form he'd be behind SigmUnd, especially given Ricki's tendency to never drop anyone ever.

What real form did Smith or Winston Reid have before the World Cup Campaign?

Yes. FML.

I'll keep an eye on reports, but the defence were average for that winner (familiar feeling).

Just score the 2nd goal for Ipswich.

Pity they slipped to a 2 all draw but good to see him get a full game and a goal

Hopefully he finds some form and holds his spot.

He's still only 21 / 22 and not too many starting CB's are that young in the Chapionship.

Hopefully he plays well, it would be unfortunate if he misses a chance to go out on loan because Ipswich have a few injuries in January, but then is back on the bench for the rest of the season after the transfer window closes.

Interesting story on front page saying that Ipswich wanted Tommy to stay in England due to a knock to his knee.  NZF rightly kicked up a fuss

Goal!! Tommy Smith hits a very good header high through the middle from the centre penalty area (aprox. 6 yards) and scores!! Ipswich Town now leads 2 - 0

Great game for Tommy Smith, a goal and he hit the woodwork later. He seems to have his managers confidence also.

"The Town boss had special praise for Tommy, who was in action for New Zealand in midweek and only arrived back at the Club on Friday morning.

"Tommy deserves a lot of credit. He trained yesterday and was keen to play. He's flown to New Zealand and back this week. We gave him some sleeping tablets to keep him on UK time and he did really well for us today," added the boss.

Tommy's own comments

"Tommy Smith was delighted with the way Town returned to winning ways, after comfortably beating Bristol City 3-1 at Portman Road.

The New Zealand defender was on the scoresheet for Blues, along with Michael Chopra and Andy Drury in the win, and believes that Town were fully deserving of the three points.

"I think we were on top for the majority of the game and in the end thoroughly deserved the win," Tommy told the Club website.

"The lads performed really well and David James has pulled off a couple of great saves from Chops (Chopra), so we could have scored a couple more.

"I was delighted to score and I thought I was going to score another, but unfortunately my header came back off the bar, but to win the game and perform so well was the most pleasing thing and it sets us up nicely for Tuesday's trip to Southampton."

Tommy was involved in 3 goals in a 2 all draw with Hull  !!

1 He had a shot deflect off him into the net, down 1 nil
2 He was beaten and the attacker shot and scored, down 2 nil
3 He was brought down in the box, Ipswich scored from the penalty 2 - 1

Played today in a disappointing 3 nil home loss, has them 15th heading into to the last game, away to Doncaster who are last on the table

Good news for Tommy though

"Paul Jewell has revealed that the Club have offered a new deal to Tommy Smith, but won't be renewing the contract of Ibrahima Sonko.

The Town boss has made the decision as he looks to shape his squad ready for next season, with the two defenders sitting down with the manager ahead of the upcoming campaign.

"We've offered Tommy a deal and his agent phoned me to say he's pretty certain that will get sorted soon," Paul told the Club website.

"I don't know the details of the offer but I'm hopeful that one will get done and I'm pleased to get Tommy signed up."
