But Nations Cup is in the offseason.

Yeah it was off season but only half of it was in the FIFA window so clubs were expecting players in for pre season and when you've just made the biggest signing of your career you can see why he opted out

A good article, by why no quotes from Boyd himself?

Surely if we can get than much from one of the coaches we could get at least a few words from the man himself?

Another good article from Burgess.

I wish Boyd all the best. He is in a great place a the moment. Playing First Div in Portugal is tremendous for a young kiwi. That league is heavily scouted. So he just needs to progress his game and he will be picked up for sure. Anything can happen in football...the Nice team from Div 1 France picked up one of Boyds(Geuirnese ) team mates for 750,000 euros. He did well at Nice and now is being chased by AC Milan for just under 20 million euros

Boyd playing Div 2 in Portugal and getting the goals and assists he did last season would surely propel him into the AW's. Would be nice to know what the true story is. Has he made himself unavailable or will Hudson not pick him?

There are some on this forum who seem to think he has been a bit of a dick in the past. I have not really followed it but surely we can cut the guy some slack. We all said or did dumb things when we were teenagers. He will have matured as a pro footballer in Europe.

Thats a fair point, but when its rumoured that you turned down an AW call up, it probably may not indicate a growth in maturity - i.e. still a dick.

Or he had an opportunity to get a pre season in with his new club and make an impression and prioritised that

Or maybe he has 0 desire to play for New Zealand?

Hudson would be a fairly bold cat if he's telling media Boyd turned down a callup and that wasn't the truth

Hudson has no issues with basically lying to the media in other ways, so it's not that much of a stretch...

We have a striker playing regular football in the 5th best league in the world, well above Chris in the championship, I don't care if he is a pillock.....Hudson has to fall on his sword on this one

Not sure you can say that after one game (that was after the last squad was named) he in playing regularaly.

I still think that a degree of pragmatism is required to get our best players inside the tent

Also I'm not sure you can say Portugues La Liga is well above the championship. The big 3 may rise to mid-lower level and even upper-level premier league quality, but the rest you'd start getting a bit iffy with it.

If Tyler Boyd wants to play for the All Whites, he knows what he has to do.

I don't know if I can agree with that.  It's in 7th place in the UEFA coefficients, and that would be (I imagine) primarily based on the performance of the top 3 in Europe.  Attendance isn't the be all and end all, but outside the top 3, the average attendance for the league was just over 5,000.

He may well be good enough to be in the squad (I really don't think so on the evidence I have seen of him), but let's be real, Hudson isn't ignoring some superstar here.

We don't even know if he want's to play, all we know is that at one point he didn't. I don't agree with a lot of what Hudson does but it appears as though he's 100% correct this time.

Assumption + one off situation (however long ago) = 100% conclusion? I don't think there's any way any of us can stamp 100% on any of our opinions based on what we've heard from Hudson. That's before considering what he says might not be 100% correct as well.

We have an interview with Hudson on the situation and nothing from Boyd, the evidence is one sided but it's all we've got. Taking any contrarian view is completely assumption because it's made in a  vacuum of information.

My point is only strengthened by the fact that you were happy to say Hudson is 100% correct without Boyd's side of the story and with the little information from Hudson - then consider Hudson isn't exactly 100% credible when he speaks. On the contrary I never said Boyd is 100% correct but it's fair to add balance to the debate.

Based on the information at hand Hudson is 100% correct, you can only work with what is in public. Boyd has a twitter account if he cared at all he would post some information. In fact, he hasn't posted anything to do with the All Whites in years, only his club side.

Ha you really think players should air their opinions publicly via twitter??? Maybe he should do a Hudson and edit his Wikipedia page. This conversation is over.

Other players have NZ flags on their profiles, have `All White` in their description, and post encouragement to their national team. Even Tommy Smith did this in his exile. It's seems reasonably obvious that Tyler simply does not care.

Conversation is over? LOL drop the mike why don't you.

He hasn't posted anything in 10 months which suggests he doesn't actively use twitter anymore. A lot changes in that time - like the fact that he was once unavailable for selection may no longer be current. That's all irrelevant anyway, twitter is not the place you inform your national manager of your intentions. Ridiculous.

He has friends and family in NZ, someone reach out and ask him... hell, if you can find his email, I'll email him if you give it to me. I just want clarity.

Twitter is where you show support for your team and team mates, all he does is tweet about his club side.

Yes, and ten months ago he still didn't show support for the All Whites or care what his team mates were doing.

Fact is if Boyd wanted to play for NZ he would have expressed that to Hudson, instead of turning down call ups.

He pulled out the squad, Hudson has every right to exclude players who don't want to play.

As much as Hudson is <quite rightly I believe> copping quite a bit of heat over his selection, it is true that it would cost Boyd nothing to ring up the phone and tell the gaffer he is fit, available, and willing to be involved with the NT.

Obviously AH would have the right to say thanks but no thanks. But at least Boyd could then say - well, I did contact AH to let him know where I stand, and he has thus far decided not to call me up.

Let's not forget that Boyd is still quite young and is probably not fussed at the idea of waiting until a new coach comes in, especially if he is able to cement his spot in such a decent league as the First Division in Portugal.

call up - singular. It seems Hudson has not contacted Boyd since and vice versa (hopefully word gets to Boyd on what he needs to do to get back in Hudson's good book)

Make it a collect call. I'm sure NZF would accept the charge. Or even cheaper send them a fax.
