no such thing as a cinema worker - patron confidentiality last I checked.

Though yeah perhaps a bit touchy given the nix sponsorship. The information was already out there, I've not really added anything to it other than to give my opinion as a phoenix fan.

No proof? I have been told he has an attitude problem from two different people from different organisation. Now this. Players don't owe us anything, regardless of what is said about them. They do owe the club a commitment. And if they don't show that, why should the club play them?

Given that any Tom, Dick or Larry could have been sitting next to Boyd in the cinema and recognised him (and they did), I don't see how you are at fault at all here. Even with the Nix sponsorship existing.

I think thats kinda it really. The players owe us nothing but to be professional and honour the contract they signed. Look at the way Brockie went out and then contrast that compare with Boyd and how he is leaving. The difference is night and day and I think thats why most people think that Brockie was a "good c*** but in the wrong system" where as others may think less of the "good" when it comes to Boyd. I bet you in a years time, more people will give a shark about how Brockie is doing in SA vs Boyd and how he is going in Portugal

I was a bit mouthy at the send off Brockie got from some fans because in my opinion, Brockie was professional to the end and held up his end of the deal so you say thanks, shake hands and move on. I won't be so vocal against the flack Boyd is getting.

well put. Though I do care how Boyd does in Portugal and hope he does really well in Europe. Just also hope he grows up a bit while he is over there.

Fair. I was being a bit immature with my last sentiment about how he goes in Portugal.

Is watching the game live on TV an expectation of the commitment required to be employed?

How about being an active and supportive squad member. If he was starting, would he want the support of his team mates when they were riding the pine. What about 'Team ethos and culture'

How would you feel if you were playing and one of your team mate could give less of a shark about the team and how you got on and more about some lame ass new-age SWF porn flick.

I would have thought so.

Put it this way. By going to a movie you are immediately saying that the movie is more important than your team.

If you have come out and publically said you still want to play, I would have thought so.

If he was attending a birth or his grandmothers sickbed fair enough, but to watch a crappy movie that will run for weeks and weeks?

Shows he now could not give a fudge

quite possibly not

but making out in a radio interview that you are rooting for the club and are still keen to play for them while here, then not watching one of the biggest games for the season ...

integrity x

professionalism x

appreciation to a club that has given him his first professional contract and development opportunity x

head size x

Not sure I'd like to see him in a future NZ side.  Unless he grows up.

Caveat, that we are not misinformed.

Support and watching the game live is not mutually inclusive (unless you think he can magically will on his team through thought alone, maybe him watching games live is jinxing us and we should be encouraging him to watch movies for the rest of the season!!!!).

Every so often you do get pros that openly say that don't watch their team play when they are not available through injury or non-selection. It sounds terrible to fans but they just need to turn up when required and give 100% (some even aren't the best trainers, [cough] Ifill [/cough], but are good enough to get away with it).

I would be far more scathing if he was not training hard, being uncooperative at training, drinking excessively during the season (generally not taking care of his body), undertaking in illegal activities etc. This is really on the low end. Not sure what sort of analysis the 'Nix do, but by now could have watched the game more than just about all the fans.

Ok. So why go on radio and pretend to be a Gary Good C*** and tell listeners you support the boys and will get the rest around to watch at home. That just makes you a liar. If he came out openly and said he wont be, then I think he may not look as silly as he does now.

He is only a liar if at the time of making the statement had no intention of actually watching the game. If you can read minds you shouldn't be wasting this talent on Tyler Boyd.

That's a fair point and he could have been well intentioned but unforeseen circumstances like blue balls (which happens in young men) meant a movie was more important.

In the face of all of this conjecture, with everything that has been seen, said and mentioned, is this just one monumental coincidental misunderstanding/conspiracy and Tyler Boyd is the ultimate team mate and we are just a shark bunch of fans?

*psst* I don't believe this to be the case but hopefully the point is well made.

Even in the context of other rumours, this is still rather minor and the only reason it gets so much air time here is because as fans we want to see players putting in the effort (both on and off the pitch).

To be fair, I wooldnt expect him to come out on radio and blatantly say he won't be watching the game. I think that'd be worse and more unprofessional. But the fact he had to lie tells you that he knows people wouldn't find it wrong if he didn't watch the game.

It's not something that is really worth going on about, it's just quite disappointing. But hope he goes well in Portugal.

That's just plain media talk. These guys have all had media training and know how to say the bullshark. If a player thinks one of his team mates is shark then they aren't allowed to come out and say it. Maybe you can say what Boyd said was worse but he has to at least pretend to support the team. Every professional football player is a liar because no one is 100% honest to the media. Players who are 100% are often criticised a lot. I have heard Barton referred to on here as a cock but at least Barton gives more honest and insightful opinions than basically anyone else in English football.

It's interesting.

Another scenario was when we first saw Fenton play right fullback.

When Merrick was quizzed on his decision to deploy him there, he said "if he doesn't want to play there he can leave".

An attacking midfielder/ winger with two years on his contract, signed be the previous coach.

Is it right to ask a player to play a position, a position which was not the cause of him being signed by the club, if it's not one of the current managers arrivals?

Was more a hypothetical question. However he has been dropped, odds are that he wont play for the Nix with JG, Kenny, Appiah, Krishna and Burns there.

If that happens in a normal work place it could be considered constructive dismissal - though their employment contracts will define the role more clearly/specifically than what a football players contract would be.

Hope you will be lenient with Sam W next time he comes out with "proof" like that :-)

The committment is to turn up for training and to play when required, and whatever else is asked in the contract, as per my initial point previously. Has he broken any committments ?

i guess the way i'm thinking about it is that there is a difference between contractual commitments and being not-a-cock/decent bloke

I get the media training to say the right things, and he is a young kid.  You'd just like to think that the team that he's been paid by for x-years to develop his football and to play for and the relationship with the guys in his team would warrant a bit of interest from him for one of the big games of the year

meh,  to me this shows a lack of appreciation/respect/decency and a fair bit of self centredness.

but plenty of business people and sportspeople get by without any of that and half of teenage blokedom exhibits this

just doesn't mean we have to like them

all speculation but ...

or what Ernie meant is we can offer him game time at FB but less so/not as an attacking mid.

if he's not happy with that he can always seek other opportunities

football does not guarantee players starting time, so I'd say that equating it to business employment and job descriptions, it's more like, no we can't offer you the promotion you hoped for, you can continue as a bench/squad player, or we can offer you this other opportunity, rather than a change of terms and conditions
