It is so disappointing that this guy isn't playing for the national team

A bit off topic but note Ange Pot, has selected 2 players from Portuguese top league in his recent Socceroos squads.

Awer Mabil (upcoming crucial qualifiers against Japan & Thailand) & Dylan McGowan (Confeds Cup) are both at FC Pacos de Ferreira (currently 15th in the League). Boyd's Tondela are 9th.

Like Boyd, Mabil's appearances to date this season have been a mix of starting and off the bench.

Sure far from an exact science, but if players from this league are good enough for Australia, figure Boyd is good enough for AWs. Have been a few doubting the standing of the Primeira Liga.

So really comes down to whether he wants to play for AWs, and if him & Hudson can bury the hatchet.

He didn't play in the Confed cup because he said he was unfit, I think Hudson needs to get of his high horse and give him a shot.

Sorry my mistake, Boyd opted to stay at his club to get match fit instead of going to PnG for the OFC cup. Don't think he was called up for the confederations cup because of that.

He probably thought he was going to fail the beep test, so didn't bother.

Given that Rory is well past it, Smeltz too (injured also).  We need to call up either/both of Boyd and Brockie for our next internationals.  Hudson needs to take a reality check here, especially if he's pushing fitness.

Jai Ingham is far more likely to be called up than Boyd or Brockie.

Really that just goes to show the hole Hudson has dug himself.

Is the hole deep enough to store Hudson's contract extension after we lose to Argentina?

Boyd and Ryan Thomas were both classmates at school in Tauranga. ''Playing together again in the All Whites is a goal both would dearly love to realize.''

- Peter White writing in today's Tauranga Times.

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

Just scored a brace of goals for Tondela in a friendly. Irrespective of where the blame lies, a pity we can't include him in the mix.

I know, I know, its serious!

Boyd subbed on at 74 mins as Tondela draw 2-2 Pacos de Ferreira. Picks up a yellow card.

Not required off the bench as Tondela lose 0-2 away to league leaders Sporting Lusbon

Boyd on the bench but not required as 10 man Tondela (defender sent off after only 4 mins), lose 1-2 to Sporting Braga.

Came off bench at 75 mins in 1-1 draw versus Chavez. Tondela did well to draw having 2 players sent off, and from 56 mins being down to 9 players.

2nd game in a row Tondela had a player(s) sent off.

Maybe Tyler will be starting next game!

FWIW I think Tyler is doing quite well for himself.

But thanks for the standard weirdly defensive cliche response.

Tondela sitting 15th out of 18 in the league. Looks dire considering the bottom two get relegated, but Tondela have had a hard run including Sporting Lisbon, Porto, and Braga. Tyler's featured in 5 out of a possible 8 games in the league, scoring once - apparently he's quite highly rated by the fans.

Subbed on at 74 mins last weekend, as Tondela were knocked out of the Taco de Portugal, by 2nd division Lexioes, losing 2-3 after extra time.

Tondela were 2-0 up when Boyd came on!

Having lived in Lisbon and going to many Benfica matches, I can safely say that the quality of the lower first division Portuguese sides like Tondela are nothing special. They would be on a similar level to a team such as the Phoenix and other standard A-league teams (Jets, CCM etc).

Subbed on at 64 mins, as Tondela beat Belenenses 2-0 in a much needed win.

Score was 0-0 when Boyd came on.

Nick Ansell is starting more often than Boyd.

Vitoria (Boyd's parent club) are only one spot above Tondela on the table (11th & 12th respectively).

Just watched the highlights on the Forza Football app... entertaining game by the looks of it. Both gks made some nice saves but my goodness some of these strikers looked pretty useless to be honest. Grrat comeback by Tondela who scored 3 goals in less than 10min. Boyd got the penalty and then was in the thick of the action for the two other goals. The Tondela match winner was a screamer.
Does anyone know why the Tondela coach wore a captain's arm band over his suit jacket which said Coach on it?? It looked odd...

Considering Boyd would either play up front or as an attacking winger of some sort, we have - Rojas, Smeltz, Brockie, Kosta, Ryan Thomas, potentially Howieson/Wood/Payne, even Fenton depending on how the new manager utilises them. Plenty of talent.

Scored quite a good free kick against Suarez era Liverpool apparently. Seemed to be playing in similar competition.

Yes at the time he was one of our hopes for the future, funnily enough Liverpool were said to have been interested in him while he was contracted with Burnley. Though now of course it seems ludicrous to put him in the same bracket as Wood. Of those players listed, only four are regular All Whites - Rojas, Wood, Kosta and Thomas. Fenton and Brockie don't really get a look in, Howieson and Payne aren't even pro's anymore, and Smeltz hasn't played like a pro for a while now too. Oh how the times change

Crazy to think Tim Payne’s still only 23, remember he was absolutely sick on FIFA 13 when he signed for Blackburn. Howieson was huge for Burnley’s youth too, failed in the Scottish 2nd div and now he’s a nobody on the world stage sadly. Wood was always pretty huge, something i didn’t actually know was that he played in the Europa League for Birmingham (where he scored a winner vs Club Brugge in the 10th minute of injury time) when he was still a teenager, younger than guys like Patterson and Bevan are now. Anyway, this is Boyd’s page, right? Good player
