Wasn't in the squad for a 2-0 win over Burnley

Would just end up on the bench. Better to stay at the Hammers. Plus the fact that his passing isn't really that terrific..

Reid is awesome now and interested parties can see clear scope for further development.  Think he'd be a good fit at Man U with good tutorledge. Better to be a Rio understudy than a Vermalen replacement I reckon

He's obviously a good player - but if you think he'd get in ahead of Koscielny and Mertesacker then you have rocks in your head. Maybe he'd have more of a shot at Man U but Liverpool have quite a few decent/good CB's also.

We don't want him and would have no show at Utd.   You can have him.

If AS Monaco continue their interest in Kompany and with lescott looking for a move away I could see pellegrini possibly putting in a bid too, just to annoy the others plus he has a good eye for a deal. Although im not sure how Winston would deal with the pressure of being at these larger clubs.

Turn it up! United's defence is shambolic.

Three for me, and two for them.

It would be very unlike City to buy a player with as little profile/experience as Reid.

Fuck this stupid game

It would be a silly move to look at City, players who would walk in as 1st teamers in other sides (Rodwell, Lescott, Sinclair etc) have gone there obviously lured by the pounds and sat doing sweet fa! Winston unfortunately would do the same. A move to any of the traditional top 4 or 5 would result in a drop in gametime. Obviously being known as a Manchester City, or Arsenal or Chelsea etc player is great, but exactly how much more would he get paid to go there, and what sort of gametime would he get?. If he is smart he has got his agent to put out the story of interest elsewhere, get a better contract at West Ham, and play 38x90 minute games each year, plus a few cup games here and there.

A move to a big club would be great for his wallet but would drop his playing time dramatically. He wouldn't be a starter in any of them. He suits Big Sam's style and must be close to the first name on the team sheet, much better for him to stay put imo.

I agree. As long as West Ham don't look like getting relegated, I don't think there's anywhere better he could be at the moment.

Why couldn't he step up... in a new environment he may be able to bring out a different facet to his play.

hE PROBABLY IS DISCOURAGED FROM PLAYING IT OUT AT West Ham which is why he doesn't look that great at it, where as he might actually be pretty competent in reality.

Would love to see him move to a bigger club. If it doesn't work out, he can move back to a smaller team.

I never find the Metro that spot on with it's transfer rumors.

I thought though defensively things are looking brighter for Arsenal? (Not watched a lot), Isn't Steve Bould finally getting to grips with drilling the defense? Which takes time?

I'm not so sure Reid would fit the Arsenal style of play - I have reservations about his passing ability! But obviously Wenger thinks otherwise.

Sorry, I can hear rattling in me head!

Re: Arsenal transfer speculation: Funnily enough the Daily Mail last week compared Wood's stats to Arsenals three centre-halves:

Stats are below the excellent photos of Reid:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2480902/Arsenal-want-West-Ham-defender-Winston-Reid.html

Does more of everything except "Total Passes".

Here is how Reid has fared in comparison with Arsenal's three centre halves this season (Source: Opta)

Reid is a quality CB. Hope we don't sell him yet because he's only gonna get better!

Look I didn't like Reid when we signed him! BUT he has won me around. Heres what I'm saying the guy is a real classy piece of work! Very quick strong fit and more notably very very happy at westham! The guy can defend REALLY defend and has that fighting kiwi spirit! He's also a major character in the dressing room loves him! Yes I'm afraid to say he's good enough for any of the top 4 but not for 6mill. He's worth between 11 and 16 million easy.

fatharry, middlesbrough, 4 days ago

Top defender. Deserves a move to a big club. Would be perfect for Man U.

James, Belfast, United Kingdom, 4 days ago

Winson just signed a new contract a few months ago, and if Wenger thinks he will sign him for £6mil, then the man has completely lost the plot.... £15 million might tempt Sullivan & Gold to cash in, hope not though, Reid has been our best player for a couple of seasons now and is well on the way to Hammers legend status

Those stats are subjective. Arsenals back 4 do not get pumped as much as West Hams so Winston is going to be doing more work. %s would better than raw stats.

Interesting stats, his passing as mentioned in other posts is his weakness but 72% pass completion is still pretty good. I have to admit, I'm surprised as I didn't think it was that high!

Stats are bogus for assessing defenders, I remember seeing an analysis of Maldini years back which said he only averaged a tackle a game. Basically it boiled down to him positioning himself so that passes to the guy he was marking just weren't on, and when players ran at him he would use body position etc to force them awayy from danger. From a purely stats based position it looked like he wasn't doing any work though

even ryan nelsen didn't get lear private jets put on for him and his championship mates to fly half way around the world, all the poppy cutters might just have to face the fact that winston is good, very good and it isn't a crime to show some confidence in his ability to cut it in the top 4.
