Snippet from Flying Kiwis. Sounds like moving Stateside, could be a longer term type loan deal after all.

Interesting that Reid got some guidance from his old AWs skipper, on what MLS team would be a good fit for him.

"feature on Reidy in The Athletic which elucidates upon a few curiosities about his football lately. For one thing they confirm that he’s in Kansas City for the entirety of the 2020 and what’s more is that SKC have an option to buy in the loan deal. No idea how they’re supposed to afford that given how long and lucrative his contract is but then it’s no surprise that West Ham are willing to shed that salary. He also added that had Manuel Pellegrini not been sacked then he might well have been back in WHU’s first team plans...

Winnie: “I was on the schedule to play games under the previous manager [Pellegrini], but then he got fired, everything changed. But that’s part of football — sorry, soccer — and I’ve been in football long enough, so I understand the mechanisms. And it’s totally fine. West Ham has to do what’s best for the club and I have to do what’s best for me, and I feel really good about this opportunity.”

Reid never even made a matchday squad under Pellegrini. It was his successor David Moyes who finally put him back on the bench for an FA Cup game... but then apparently they had some “honest” discussions about Reid’s future. Within that it seems that Reid himself asked for the loan and when you couple that with the length of the deal it seems he’s in it for more than just half a season to get his match fitness up. It’s also added, fascinatingly, that Ryan Nelsen played a role in facilitating the move and convincing Reid that Kansas City was the right call. Always nice to hear from Ryan Nelsen every now and then."

Not in match day squad as Sporting Kansas City (SKC) thump Houston 4-0, in the MLS.

Kyle Adams not in the Houston squad either. He's been loaned back to Rio Grande Valley (RGV) already, along with 2 others. RGV have their USL opener tomorrow.

SKC II also play in the USL tomorrow. Reid may get some game time with them.

This week's Flying Kiwis.

"Last week we had some insider info leaking into the press on the American side of the Atlantic Ocean, this week the English side has responded in kind. Having learned that Winnie’s on loan for the entirety of 2020 we now also know that West Ham are paying an absolute landslide majority of his salary which makes that an utter steal for Sporting KC.

Football.London: “Football.London has learned that Sporting KC are supporting just 15 per cent of Reid's reported £70,000 a week wages, handed to him after he signed a whopping six-year contract extension back in 2017.”

That piece also lead with the suggestion that West Ham have no intentions of selling either Reid or the similarly perpetually injured Jack Wilshere in the offseason... although we all know that’s subject to change. The Hammers are in a relegation battle at the moment so they sort of need to keep two plans in mind in case they go down and a guy like Winston might hypothetically come back into the reckoning should they be playing Champo footy – the standard’s a little lower and he’s a long serving club man with something to prove. The best case scenario for West Ham is that they avoid the drop comfortably and build for a future which Reid is unlikely to have any part in... but actually selling him will be immensely tricky considering those hefty wages."

From this week's Flying Kiwis. Visa issues (now sorted) maybe to blame for Reid yet to be sighted Stateside.

Simon Hampton@SimonHampton9

Winston Reid is due to return to the US from London tomorrow after finalizing his visa for his move to Kansas City.

Per Sporting KC spokesperson: "Our medical staff are taking all the necessary precautions with Winston upon his return before we re-integrate him into the team."

A little more context here in what’s been a really weird saga to get a handle on with Winston Reid’s transfer to Sporting KC. The unique situation he’s in at West Ham where he’s not only on a long term contract but he’s probably unwanted and also hasn’t played for two years doesn’t help, nor does the very different footy culture of the MLS where he’s headed. Plus Winnie’s a notoriously reserved character.

Apparently at some point he’d had to go back to London while waiting for that visa to come through which makes a lot more sense as to why he didn’t feature in their first couple games of the season. Hopefully he got in under the travel restrictions. Who knows when he’ll next get to play but that’s the situation, no dramas. Play it as it lays.

Finishes 0-0, then goes to pens which SKC take out 3-1.

Reid stays on the pine.

Odd that he's getting no game time.  Is he injured or are there apparence fees as part of his deal that SKC does not want to pay due to the virus?

A very short comment at about 14 mins on Reid, from SKC's experienced coach (been there 8 years). Sounds his body is ready now.

SKC apparently have 6 games now in 24 days, so he should get a few starts.

Up against Minnesota and Boxall in a few hours.

And what do you know starting in Minnesota. Good stuff. Pity is only a small crowd allowed (max 2,500??)

First start in a competitive club football game, since that terrible injury against Swansea for Hammers 3rd March 2018. Coming up 2.5 years ago!!  He's been paid a lot of money since then.

Boxall snr starts for Minnesota, Musa on the bench. Think home team have a few defenders out injured, plus their first choice keeper.

Good news is that Reid got through the full game, and for him & SKC a 2-1 win. They are top of the Western Conference after 4 games.

Bad news is that his AWs mate Boxall gave away the OG, to give Kansas their 2nd.

Game of oggies. Minnesota's goal being one as well. Which you can see clearly pisses off Winnie (no 22).

Musa an unused sub for Minnesota.

A nice debut win at Minnesota, followed by a 5-2 trouncing at home from Houston Dynamo.

More importantly gets another full 90 mins under his belt, only 4 days after his first game.

Number 22. Didn't look his finest game defensively, but hey he's still probably getting to know his team mates. Then he so very nearly scores with a header at the end. Big thing, is he is playing. Still shapes as a huge part of the AWs this WC cycle.

I think some MLS teams are allowed limited crowds to around 2,500.

From this week's Flying Kiwis. Good news 'injury', doesn't sound serious. Possibly just cramp. The SKC gaffer has mentioned a few times Reid has been struggling with heat in the US, esp that Orlando tourney.

"There was a collision with an opponent which didn’t help him though it sounds like it was merely cramp which forced him off. SKC had already had to use a sub earlier with midfielder Roger Espinoza having to be removed apparently for the same reason. Definitely a precautionary one... although it makes the decision to start him in three straight games after two and a half years out of top level club football seem rather dumb in hindsight. Sporting KC would go on to draw 1-1, equalising in the second half but copping a red card with a dozen minutes remaining.

Still annoyingly in sick bay it seems.

Not in match day squad as SKC lose 2-3 to Dallas.

SKC still 2nd in Western Conference. Is very tight though. 7 points separate 9 teams.

No game time for Reid (or Wynne) this weekend.

https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2020/09/26/col...

Major League Soccer announced today that the Colorado Rapids’ match against Sporting Kansas City originally scheduled for Sunday, September 27, at DICK’s Sporting Goods Park has been postponed to a later date.

The decision to postpone the match was made after the Rapids confirmed four positive COVID-19 cases on Friday—three staff members and one player.

SKC came from a goal down, to win 2-1.

Nashville with player sent off at 54 mins when it was 1-1.

Full game Reid.

SKC go 2nd in the Western Conference for the moment. They overtake Portland who are about to kick off against San Jose.

2-2 draw. Full game Reid. SKC 3rd in the West.

Collier came off the bench at 80 mins with score 1-1. Chicago then went behind but equalised very late at 95 mins.

Fire 10th in the East.

In highlights, Collier shoots high when has a great chance to score, and Winnie is very angry at conceding 2nd goal so late.
