New Zealand youth international Adam Watson has also agreed to stay in ST4, extending his scholarship into a third year.

Didn't have the best U18 season but had a good loan stint at Hanley Town, hopefully he can crack into U21s

No mention of Scott Morris

Adam Watson Stoke City (U21) Nathan Lowe who has been Watsons teammate through most of his Stoke juniors and the main teammate keeping him out of the starting side has gone on loan to Walsall in league two and has picked up two goals in his second game against Huddersfield Town. Hopefully with Lowe gone it gives Watson a to play.

Senior team have a League Cup game at Wimbledon AFC tonight. He might be a chance of being on the pine for that game.

I think he's 4th, but one guy is injured, and then another keeper may go out on loan.

He could remain with the U21s all season, with Ipswich in the EPL and their manager always wanting 3 keepers around the club in the larger squad.

Not a bad outcome for Gray if so. An experience in itself being at a club in the EPL. The U21s mostly play midweek, so I'm guessing he would get to be at every EPL game in case of emergency.

Missed this previously as I don't have as much time to look out for Kiwis on the move these days but Adam Supyk is back in the UK.

Was on trial at Dunfermline (Scottish Championship) in June/July - No offer tabled, although the gaffer was annoyed that trialists were not allowed to play in the Scottish League Cup prior to the season kicking off (as per Scottish FA rules) otherwise he may have featured and potentially landed a deal.

Late July he was trialling back in England with the Burnley U23's. No further update on his current status though.

Having a UK passport will hopefully open some doors. Met his English dad once.
Seems that almost half the kids that come through the Weenix Academy have UK parentage. Certainly handy when trying to broker a transfer fee down the track.

Waine, Callan Elliot, Surman, Hughes, Supyks, Brooke-Smith. No doubt I've missed a few.

Someone who has won a contract in the Scottish footballing pyramid - Petone's Brynn Sinclair (22 y/o, CB) has signed for League One side Arbroath (third tier). Had spent a while trialling in Scotland, and had previously impressed with Greenock Morton in the Championship but wasn't offered a deal - big jump for Brynn

Brilliant!
So many goalkeepers picking up moves to very decent clubs.

Can we shift that pipeline and produce a few more CB's and strikers now though please?

Any word on Scott Morris at Stoke? Doesn't seem to have featured for them at all this season.

Could not find anything on Morris but for your pipeline dream of strikers I had to dig deep to find Adam Watson came off the bench for reserve U21 Stoke 1-0 against Mansfield Town Res in Central League

In the PL2 side, two recruits have joined Richard Beale's group for the 2024/25 season.

Defender Michael Parker, formerly of Burnley's youth setup, has signed a one-year deal, while New Zealand U20 goalkeeper Joe Wallis has penned a two-year contract - with both having a further 12-month option in the club’s favour.

Highlights from the West Brom vs Chelsea game
Joe Wallis with a nice couple of saves. A poor clearance by West Brom led to Chelsea's first goal. Chelsea keeper was almost at half way when he lost the ball to a West brom player and dribbled up the field for the easiest match winner you will ever see.

Zac Jones doing well for Haverfordwest County over in Wales this term. They're up to 2nd after a 2-0 win at Bala Town this morning.

More importantly, that result makes it 7 clean sheets in the opening 11 Cymru Premier League games for Zac - An excellent return.

Faaaark those are some numbers! No wonder he's been picked up, and an awesome sign that he's straight into the action. From memory, he was in contention for age-group NZ teams (including U23s) in recent years.

Interestingly he's currently behind Martell Taylor-Crossdale, an ex-Chelsea and Fulham youngster who was teammates with Zac Jones at Haverfordwest last season.

https://www.wba.co.uk/news/national-league-cup-preview-dagenham-redbridge-present-next-challenge-young-baggies

New Zealand’s victorious U20 OFC Championship campaign wasn’t the only good news for new Albion shot-stopper Joe Wallis during the summer.

A phone call from his hotel room in Samoa, where the tournament was being hosted, prompted the Kiwi youth international to drop everything for a shot at signing for a professional team in England.

30 hours of travelling, and a successful trial later, Joe achieved his dream of joining an English club by penning a two-year deal with the Baggies in September.

Since becoming a part of Richard Beale’s PL2 team, Wallis has played three matches - with his most notable contribution coming against Chelsea in a 2-1 away win.

The 19-year-old was involved in Albion’s first National League Cup game against Ebbsfleet, and it wasn’t the first taste of senior football in the keeper’s career having already played against men for New Auckland City back home.

Joe’s hopes more of those experiences will come during his time in B71, as he describes his switch from New Zealand to the Black Country.

Starting with how his move to The Hawthorns transpired, Joe said: “I was sitting on my bed in Samoa with the U20 New Zealand team - we were doing our OFC qualifiers there - when I got a phone call from my old goalkeeper coach about some interest in me from a few clubs in the UK.

“He said the agent had sorted a few things out for me to go over and trial and asked if I wanted to go. I was shocked, but I got off my bed, rang my mum and dad and said I could go and trial for some clubs which, at the time, I didn’t know who they were.

“But me and my family decided to go for it and found out West Brom was the main club that was interested. So I got back from the qualifiers, packed my stuff, flew to the UK - literally 30 hours worth of travel - got settled in with a host family for my trial and it went well.

“This was around July/August so I played in an 18s game, a 21s match in pre-season, and then Boaz Myhill called me on the bus back from Leicester saying they wanted to sign me. That’s how it all came about so it’s an interesting story and I’m happy to be at this club.

“My old goalkeeping coach was Eñaut Zubikarai, and he’d played against some of the best players in the world for Real Sociedad during his career.

“The likes of Messi, Ronaldo, so his experiences really helped develop my technique. I must’ve been about 13/14 at my grassroots club in Auckland, Western Springs, when I met him.

"Eñaut had his eye out for talent back then, watched me from the sides and then a few years later when I was 17, he signed me up to his club, New Auckland City.

A photo of former Real Sociedad goalkeeper Eñaut Zubikarai
Former Real Socidedad keeper Eñaut Zubikarai (above in action against Dani Alves) was Wallis' coach at New Aukland City
“I made my first-team debut there and it’s hard to compare the levels there to here, but we had experienced players there who’d played overseas and it was a good test for me. Everyone pushed me and they set me up to come here.

“We won the OFC Men’s Championship in the summer. I played once at the end of the group stages, and we beat Papa New Guinea 10-0. It was just great to get my debut for my country.

"We have the U20 World Cup in Chile coming up. It’s one of my goals to make that squad and compete, and just play as many games as I can.

“Ultimately, though, it’s about playing at the highest level possible and I hope Albion can help me do this and I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.

“Boaz has a lot of experience and has been really helpful with the details, giving me playlists to watch after matches, so he’s been really beneficial for me and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.

“I was lucky to have played some men’s football while I was at home in New Zealand and since Auckland City were high in that league, some teams we’d play against would be good on the ball but make it hard for you with plenty of crosses and direct play.

“But, the National League is a very high level. They know how to play and we have to be ready for the men, who are proper footballers and we're excited for the challenge.

“We’ve got to do our best and gain little things from playing against these players who’ve played throughout the leagues during their careers. It’s about learning, giving them a good battle and trying to progress to the next level.

"I want to take my time here, get used to the country, the football here and hopefully push on while growing as a player and a person.”

Probably just falls outside of having his own thread given it's League Two in Scotland (although promotion might change that picture later on down the track) but good on the lad for chasing footballing opportunities abroad.

It's a far cry from the likes of Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Fleetwood Town and the like he's trialled at previously, but fair play to him for persisting. Hopefully leads to something bigger ahead (🤞) for the lad too.

Yeah, it has sort of tailed off for him a bit after a prolific year for Melville and the NZ U19's a few years back. Just hasn't quite clicked for him since. No doubt that injury he picked up while trialling at Sheffield Wednesday will haunt him forever and a day - Such is football though...

I am happy however to see a few more Kiwis turning to Scotland as a destination for furthering their football though. I think you only have to look as far as someone like George Stanger (Scottish Lowland >> Scottish League Two >> Scottish League One >> Scottish Championship) to see that their is a viable pathway to making it in the game, and progression is there if you can play regularly and find a bit of form. It doesn't necessarily need to be England or bust for these lads trying to make a career of football.
