Getting rid of Sky Sport 101

was at the Parker v Fury fight in Manchester on Saturday night and recorded the announcement of the result on my phone. Feeling patriotic (and a bit braggy) I uploaded the footage onto my Facebook. Sky took it down pretty quickly as apparently they own the footage.

Personally, I don't particularly give a fudge, but do they really own the footage I shot on my phone? Seems a bit odd.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite

Very dubious about that, there's a fair use exception in the copyright laws anyway

so I appealed the removal of the video, stating that it was footage that I recorded at the event on my mobile phone, but that was rejected as apparently Sky NZ still own the copy write to it.

Now I (obviously) have no idea who is right and wrong here, but I have kept appealing the decision. Will likely end up incarcerated over this so can we please start a YF fund to build me my own prison (Escobar style)

Its likely that buying your ticket was subject to an agreement that you cannot film and republish the event. Of course, if you didn't buy your ticket, then it's less clear if you agreed to such an agreement.

First away game of the season, anyone know of better streaming alternatives now that Fanpass is up to $100 monthly payments? Will they show it on Prime?

Sky's pathetic. Used the sky go app to remind of the Wel v Syd highlights starting at midday, instead get 15min of u17s vs Mali highlights and now some champions league magazine show. Guide still says Wel v Syd highlights. Why? Can they not just tune into their own channels to see what is on and update the guide (it seems that there is no connection between who chooses what to play and who is in charge of the guide), or how about when you set the guide you try and follow it.

New option for Sky Now and their 'merger (that's not a merger) with Vodafone, - Vodafone TV

Sky TV is bleeding money and have diminishing subscription base driven largely by sports fanatics not unlike ourselves.

I do not expect Sky TV to show anything on Prime for free that they could potentially lure viewers to pay for on Sky Sport.

Absolutely hilarious product. Delivering channelise content over IP! They just don't get it, do they.

Found a good a-league streamer in oz.com for a paid subscription quality is 720p or near.

Anyone know how I can watch #thehandy on SKY from overseas?

If only.. I bet there would be some decent market potential with the likes of Auckland City being a global name by now. If NZF would do what FFA has done with oz.com then it could happen but we are probably 2 world cups worth of money faway from global streaming broadcast of the handy.

Er.. a global name might be slightly over stating things.

They may not be the All Blacks but you'd be surprised some Central/South Americans know about ACFC at all and it can only be a good thing for our National League, oh but you may only think the world revolves around Europe and the only team we have are the Phoenix..

Use smartdnsproxy.com and it should let you watch Sky assuming you have a SKY Subscription...

Even if that's true that interest is unlikely to last if those people overseas actually watched the handy...

Hmm, not keen to pay SKY sub just to watch the Handy. I have a remote VPN to watch pretty much everything else. Anyone know if the highlights show will be up on You Tube on Wednesday night?

looks like the fox option is only replays of the game on demand, 12 hours after the game. But if that doesn't bother you, it's quite cheap.

Unfortunately Fox have now removed the A-League from the online package making it useless for football fans.

I'd recommend this + VPN. Unfortunately it's no good for showing full replays but live games work great.

Out of interest, which country do you set your VPN to in order to access this? I guess it's blocked in NZ?

Signs of trouble at Sky as they have closed their Christchurch office and laid off most installation personnel just before Xmas.

A mate of mine who has been installing Sky for years was made redundant a couple of weeks ago as Sky terminated installation contracts with all except one Chch company (they had six companies working for them at one stage, now it's down to one).

Sky also closed their Christchurch office last month so you can no longer return equipment or pay bills there - you have to return equipment to their sole installation contractor and pay bills at a Post Shop.

Sky have also reduced the number of call centre staff - it's much harder to talk to a real person now.

When you phone them you often get connected directly to an answer phone asking you to record a message.

Often it's impossible now to talk to a real person, no matter how many times you phone them over a long time period.

It's now much worse than phoning a power company or bank - at least they put you in a queue to talk to someone.

It used to be easy to talk to someone at Sky's call centre in Auckland.

Not surprising that Sky are cutting costs since they must be losing a lot of customers to Netflix etc.

closed the front counter - the office is still very much there in Christchurch.

There is actually three tech companies remaining on contract with SKY in the main Christchurch area.

It always sucks when people lose jobs.

What's the bet they blame those darn pirates and still won't listen to the paying customers complaints, or the complaints of ex paying customers and their reasons for leaving.

so what you're saying is that for $14.98/month ($179.76/year) I can watch the nix live, I wont get replays of the other leagues games, nor can I record them, nor will I get access to any other sports that I like to watch on other channels - I don't see the benefit here unless I'm, a complete football tragic and have nothing better to do with my time than watch football matches at 3am in the morning.

I've just cancelled my SKY subscription after 7 years and roughly $8000 in subscription fees. Enough is enough. I bought a chromecast and now watch YouTube videos on my TV, all I pay is for Internet. Then we got Netflix.

Having said this I will reeeaaallly miss watching the NIX games (My only interest of all that SKY showed) But can't justify $99 per month for 4 or 5 games a month.

Or keep an eye on each matchday thread, usually a link to a dodgy stream gets posted. Sometimes you can find coverage on Youtube, although be prepared for the stream to die at any point.

You can re-watch the game, I takes them a few hours to put them up, but the quality is good. I recomend.
