A dog with a bone :)
Only one problem with a game at Mt Smart on 16th of Sept Robb. You can bet that the Warriors will make the playoff's and have a home game if the Nix have a game scheduled there.

Good point. I imagine there'd be an exclusivity arrangement for the entire weekend due to NRL scheduling uncertainty, and I doubt that'd be sortable. Bugger.
(Not that I want us to play in Auckland, just that it's a good option to have)

Such a LOL, never mind logistics.
"However, the Basin could have difficulty complying with A-league crowd control and television requirements."
Not even worth writing/talking about.

Seems the Basin and the club disagree since talks have been held...
What is more interesting though is the comment about the A-League not starting until October?! WTF?
Annoyingly long pre season! Although, could be a tactic to stop the NRL and AFL hogging all the limelight at this time of year...

are we going to trust anyhting Nathan Greenham says about the start of next season? come on the guy is only in the job cos he won a reality tv show.....I'm still curious why a lot of people are anti the basin? it's hosted international one dayers there before, they've played day-night cricket there as well plus football macthes.
Queenslander 3x a year.

Nathan didn't win the reality show. He was one of Terry's assistants and has been with the club since the start.

An October start could work for me if it means a March/April finish.
The off-season would be hard.

interesting to note that North Harbour Stadium has gone from hosting the All Whites to hosting an ITM Cup game in the space of 16 hours...

Am I imagining that I saw them rubbing out the lines straight after the game? I think I did, but surely the lines can be simply brushed away! Perhaps I had too many beers.

It's not quite as simple as that. One thing you might notice about Rugby games is that they have rather cumbersome advertisements painted all over the pitch. They take more time and effort to brush away, as the advertising wouldn't be permitted for A-League broadcast. Then it would need to be painted straight back on for the next RWC match.
Another factor is the damage done to the pitch. Rugby does a lot more damage to the pitch than football does, obviously. Also, rugby can be played on a crap surface without much consequence to the quality of play (i.e making it easier at NHS to host an ITM cup game straight after the AW match). Football does not have that luxury. Pitches would need to be rolled, all divets replaced etc etc.
I'm no expert in ground management by any means, and there's probably a whole lot that I'm missing out, but the exchange of a rugby field to a football pitch is no mean feat.

For the record, whoever said NHS manages two events in two days - Westpac Stadium have more events than any other stadium in NZ p/a and we quite regularly back up with one code after another in a weekend, there is no issue there.

Hiya folks. Brand new to the boards.
What's the latest on this? I'm in Tauranga and would love to see some live football at Bay Park, but apart from a solitary newspaper article a few weeks back, I haven't heard anything.

Cheers mate, another forumite showed me it on Facebook and I couldn't stop laughing haha.
My family are Phoenix supporters too and are based in Papamoa (where I lived before coming here for uni), so I was partial to the idea myself. If it helps, Hamilton made a bloody good case to host a regular season match next year, so that may be an option if it happens?

I didn't realise that there might be a Hamilton game...well that's a shorter drive than Wellington, haha! Yeah, my wife and I would be really keen for that if it was to happen.

In all fairness, I don't think there's been any suggestion from the club in regards to Hamilton hosting a match - but given the massive crowd for a pre-season match there this year (>9,000), and AMI Stadium trying to make their own arrangements to host a match, it MAY be a possibility.

Fingers and toes crossed that it happens...even if it was a season warm up match, I'd be keen.

If this is still related to the Eggball "World" Cup (can't be arsed reading back thru the entire thread, sorry), Waikato Stadium will not be available.

It's not. Initial thread was - Baypark came up as the largest stadium & city not being used during that tournament. However it's a moot point as the A-League season will likely start after the rugby ends anyway.
Waikato Stadium only came up in the last few posts in regards to SeriouslyBoard's desire for a nearby Nix match. Was actually a divergence from the thread's point
