...just heard on Sky News tonight...
Big broad hints from Ford HQ in USA that they are going to kill off the Falcon ..!!

and replace it with their world  concept car.... the TAURUS!!!

Now that would seriously bork Bathurst and the V8 Supercar Series...I hope the Aussies can find a work-around and keep their Falcons.

The Holden v Ford battles have been legendary over the years.. I would hate to see it go.

Talk of Ford Australia building the 'large rear wheel drive' wheelbase for international distribution.

But yeah, would be a shame if this part of the World (NZ imports the Oz-built Falcon from what I know) if the large car was the Taurus.

Yes indeed, Diego's Son, we have had Aussie imported Fords and Holdens for many years, though in decades previous we also had NZ assembly plants too for both car makers.
In a reflection of the huge Aussie culture of family loyalties to either Ford or Holden, I was bought up in a rural farming family here in NZ where the ONLY car of choice was Holden.
Across the road the neighbours were Ford devoted, through and through.
We always kept an eye on and admired/criticised the other family's vehicles and latest advances from each marque.
If Holden had made a tractor we would have bought it, so we could compete with the Ford tractors over the road!
Despite a family loyalty for Holden I would hate to see the Falcon disappear, the old rivalry has a wonderful history in many parts of this country too!

ambrose starting 14th. he could have a decent 2010 if he builds on last year

Danica Patrick will be starting in the nascar nationwide race this weekend at daytona, thats pretty big.

nationwide is a step down from the cup series but has lots of cup drivers so is a fairly competitave field

will be interesting to see how she does

Well aware that many well preserved Ford and Holden hotties have been kept in pristine knick over in NZ for some time now. Magazines such as Auto Action and Australian Muscle Car have photos and reports from local NZ race days for the old classics.

I heard rumours that blokes in Oz were going over to NZ to look for XY GT's and so on, but apparently South Africa had a few as well, so some blokes went there as well.

The V8 round for the modern-day Supercars in NZ is totally justified in this sense. Channel 10, who used to cover the V8's here until a year or so ago, always used to say that 'we welcome our TV3 viewers as well in NZ' at most race meets.

jimmie johnson back to winning ways in NASCAR. the 4 time defending champ gets his 48th career win. impressive

it appears the nz round of the wrc is in danger of being scrapped. at the moment it runs bi-annually with aussie but a new proposal would see it scrapped alltogether which would be a real shame. the drivers love the nz roads but sadly its not up to them.

the same proposal would see monte carlo and the acropolis rally taken off the wrc calendar which would be utterly stupid. the monte carlo rally is one of the if not the most prestigious events there is.

Jamie Whincup goes four from four at start of new V8 Supercar season. Quite incredible considering Team Vodafones change from Falcons to Commodores. Even though I'm a red blooded Holden man, I'm finding it hard to support Triple 8.

Does prove one thing though in that these cars are basically the same and only distinguished by the panels they each wear. Its more to do with the skill of the driver, team and the set up of the cars. Triple 8 could have Daewoo panels on the car and they'd still win.

yea hes doing bloody well. good to see van gisbergen competing well, he could break through for a win this year i think.

strange murphy was happy to miss the first 2 races cos of top gear commitments, all but takes him out of contention, not that he was a top contender anyway but he coulda done alright in his new team.

Somewhat interesting Qualifying today. Schumi a handsome 7th place and was up to his old tricks as he checked out his opponents cars afterwards. Gotta love the man

Cars looked slow and ugly however and too many bitchy rules. Its fast becoming Rugby.Michael2010-03-14 01:27:06

dixon 6th, solid ish start, would have liked a podium but he traditionally starts a bit slow, or has done so in the last few seasons

good thing is will power won and i dont expect hime to be challenging come the end of the season

schuey looked pertty good in bahrain, looks like could be quite a few contenders this year, hopefully schuey is one of them
16 Mar 22:46 · edited 09 Sep 05:24
of the 5 guys who finished ahead of dixon, only dan wheldon could realisticly post a title challenge, and even then i think hes a bit off that mark yet with panther racing

dixon finished ahead of franchitti, castroneves kanaan and ryan briscoe which are his serious title challengers

so of the first 5 races in NASCAR this season, jimmie johnson has won 3. very impressive, he is quickly becoming as dominant to this sport as woods is to golf and fed was to tennis

great call by button to come in and take slicks before anyone else

not such great driving by dixon at st pete. that was real dissapointing

Hamilton's car sells for $90,000 higher than the other cars used by the F1 brigade.

F1 drivers are my idols. Not because I want to do burnouts, but because of their pure cheek.

yea true, thats why i meant back on track. nicki lauda came out saying red bull had no chance of winning the championship (not sure if it was drivers or constructors). strange thing to say about a team that has looked pretty strong in the first 3

I'll be camped on the couch watching the ITM400. I'm actually looking forward to watching the V8 Ute racing with the Aussie drivers coming over. 32 utes on a street circuit. Could be some carnage with the difference in driving standards.

hunter rey wins long beach, dixon 4th. hes now tied for 5th in the standings, i expect once the ovals start the likes of dixon, castroneves and briscoe will dominate

F1 ones been awesome so far. I'm a F1 snob, only watch the best of the best... don't want to watch modified normal cars go round a track or old looking open wheel cars or just left turns.

Actually to be honest I just have a mate who loves F1, got me onto it. Have only really watched F1 and A1 for the NZ factor.

well many dont feel that f1 is the best of the best anymore. indy cars these days have just as many circuit tracks as ovals, a good mix of street races, permanent tracks and ovals.

whats your view on the wrc then?  thats gotta be up there with the best of the best

f1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, god help me I cannot stand V8's or any other New Zealand/Australian based racing. The american ones, Indy nascar etc are okay and so is MotoGP and WRC.

surely as a fan of motorsport you want to see it as growing in strength in nz. we need more drivers competing on a global scale and they are guna have to start out here

and what about bathurst? thats one of the best races in the world

awesome race in NASCAR this morning at talladega, nearly a photo finish and a record amount of lead changes (88). Of the 43 cars that started the race 29 led at some point. such good racing to watch

James Courtney now only 24 points behind Jamie Whincup in V8 Supercars. Amazing considering Whincup has won 6 of 10 races this year compared to Courtneys 2. Just shows that consistancy is the key.

Greg Murphy quickly becoming the Michael Campbell of V8 Supercars.
