Ken Whisenhunt is the new OC at the Cards and he's the man who brought Big Ben on as a QB in their Superbowl season. I think the focus on Boldin and F'gerald being "burners" has been used way too much, yes they stretch the field but they also have good "nous" and can find soft spots in zone coverage better than most. I believe they have upgraded, especially at RT, which is ML's blindside.

The one and only.

hahahaha Rex who?
27 Aug 21:13 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
He's not a good QB fir sure, but we still won our division and the NFC Championship with that turd, which is a long time coming since '84.

I like our chances again this year, and maybe Griese will get some snaps.

Per usual, our defense and special teams will carry us regardless of who's the QB.
27 Aug 22:56 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
i think hes a pretty good Qb to be honest, you have to have some level of talent to guide a team to the Superbowl. Should be a good season in Chicago one feels, some good players on the D for sure....Briggs, Urlacher, Vasher etc........the Benson issue worries me tho.....not sure if he can carry the load all year.
27 Aug 23:59 · edited 09 Sep 04:59

He didn't guide anything anywhere. He was the worst rated QB in the NFL over the last 12 weeks of the season.

Just shows that a good team can carry a bad QB, even all the way to the show.

Still, it looks like he's gonna have some real competition for worst QB this season, Trent Green (Dolphins), Marc Bulger (Rams) and Chad Pennington (Jets) have all been terrible during preseason. You may say it's only preseason but if you can't get it done against the other teams second stringers then it's gonna be a long season.

BTW, latest on the Michael Vick story.

Reebok have over $2M in Vick 07 game shirts in stock that are now worthless.

Priceless

Further on Vick - apparently he's found Jesus now.

The real stuff starts on Friday arvo our time. My beloved Saints v. the Colts from RCA Dome, live on ESPN from 12.30.

I've already taken the day off

Any tips for fantasy NFL for new players? Played various football (soccer) ones, fantasy NBA but not NFL. Missed my draft auto drafted team with Vince Young and Jay Cutler as QB's, don't rate them but they could have a good fantasy year after playing half a season or so. But got Marques Colston, Willie Parker.
04 Sep 04:26 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
Vince and Jay will both be starters this season so you will be fine there. Cutler looks to be developing well and knows how to manage a game from his time at Vanderbilt. Young is the future of the league and he's basically what Qbs will become in the future, sure a lil erratic with his arm but he's almost Mike Vick like.....except hes even more dangerous in my eyes.

Willie Parker will be sharing more 3rd down situations with Najeh Davenport and short situations in the redzone are gonna go ND's way......not sure of Colston tho.

Some advice based on stuff ive looked at over the off-season - get Leinart as your QB, and get a RB like Jamaal Lewis who is going to be in a run-heavy situation in Cleveland.

Colston's a pretty good selection too, (and not just because he's a Saint!), he's a starter and I expect Brees will look to hook up with him often. More of a possession receiver, but has enough speed to outrun most DBs. Got over a 1,000 yards receiving as a rookie last year with 7-8 TDs from memory, and that was despite missing a few games through injury. If he stays healthy I'd expect him to be a good addition to your fantasy team.

Haven't watched an NFL game in years but think I might try and watch a few since you guys have an interest also.

Who should be my favourite team and why?

Note: I'm a West Ham fan which means it should be a team with lots of potential but never quite gets there. A team that likes to play with flair but which ulimately costs them more points than they earn. But most importantly they have the best fans in the league who support them no matter what. (I think this makes me a niners fan. Am I right?)

Yes fortyniners for sure!

I always have a soft spot for the Jets (similar reasons).
04 Sep 22:36 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
I like the San Diego Chargers (they should be awesome this year like last) mainly because of LT (Ladainian Tomlinson) not just because he is an amazing player who can do it all and was MVP, but when I seen him play he scored a killer TD, broke the all time record for TD scored in a season. But there was no OTT celebration, he got on with the game because his team was still trailing.

Also like the Saints, they were everyones team last year because of Katrina. Also give the ball a lot of air with Brees, Bush, Colston and Horn (who has left).

You a Jets, Mets, Nets fan? All the littler neighbour of NY big teams (obviously Nets are NJ but still)

I think the trouble with 49ers is they had their glory years not long ago and now they're probably the team everyone loves to hate. West Ham have a reputation of being everyones 'second favourite team'. I think I've whittled it down to the Eagles or the Browns. I always liked Randall Cunningham and Vinnie Testeverde cos they were'nt afraid to run with the ball but they gave it heaps of air too.

They have a got a pretty cool playing strip.

04 Sep 23:14 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
Kelly Green.

Just don't have any expectations or hopes and you'll do fine as an Eagles fan and every few years they will surprise you.

How's my driving? - Whine here

I am not a Cards fan. Let me make that clear from the outset.

I watched an NFL "Yearbook" on the Cardinals from 2006 and I maintain my stance that they are going to "Kill" everyone in their division this season. Matt Leinart is going to be a Hall of Famer, premature call you say? He set passing records for any rookie in the history of the NFL last season and will keep that roll on in 07. Coach Wizz will use more and more Shotgun 3 WR sets with a RB in pass protection with no TE and this will enable ML to take that quick 3 step drop he has and give him more time to react and make his reads.

The Shotgun + MLs quick 3 step + (Anquan Boldin + Larry F + Bryant Johnson) + Edgerrin James = an NFC Championship appearance. When coming out of the I, or Pro sets, the PA pass is going to mess with anyone running a 3-4 defence (which more D's are doing now, hybrid schemes with lots of 8-man box, single safety sets) and exposes them to the risk of over-pursuing, especially with the speedy 220lb LB's that a lot of teams are moving to these days. By laying that running platform with EJ, all sorts of tricks n' gadget plays are gonna come out of Wizz's closet (refer WR end around vs Seahawks Superbowl XL when he was OC at Steelers......Parker established the run with Bettis and they goosed the 'hawks into thinking it would be a grind all day.....HELLO).

I could sit here and write all day about why the Cards will be this good in 07/08 but i'll get fired.....just know that they will be there or thereabouts.......

the NFC, as a division, has been weak the last couple of seasons - in the last 10 years an AFC team has won the Superbowl 7 times.....the exceptions being 1997 Green Bay, 2000 Rams and the 2003 Bucanneers. Barber212007-09-05 15:49:54

Broncos v Eagles

Three for me, and two for them.

I'll go with my two favourites San Diego Chargers vs. New Orleans Saints, thats right you heard it here first.
05 Sep 21:16 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
Patriots vs Cardinals

or (covering my bases here)

Colts vs Saints

they will be the Top 4 teams come Conference Championship time.

How many of you are doing the Yahoo Fantasy Football thing?
We have a league with 3 teams in it and one of them is mine. I haven't seen an NFL game in about 7 or 8 years and don't know the players so if you're scared you're gonna get beat by a rookie, then fair enough.

The league ID number is 347668 and password phoenix. We need an even number of teams so lets see if we can get 3 more teams entered before kick off (which is tomorrow!!).

P.S. Superbowl final will be Eagles v Browns.

i have my team in there already - when are we doin our draft HH?
06 Sep 00:08 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
TBH I dont understand this whole draft thing and how it works. Can you enlighten me please.
06 Sep 00:16 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
we have to get the League Manager to initate the draft, sometimes its done in a realtime "live" environment, otherwise its a "first come, first served" basis. I prefer the online version better, becoz it works like the NFL draft, 1 pick at a time, 8 rounds, 1 pick per round.
06 Sep 00:27 · edited 09 Sep 04:59
Yeah but isn't kick off tomorrow? That means we have to wait for everyone to make their picks before we can make ours.

I've PM'd El Grapadura cos we need to him press the button so we can do the draft.

Just PM'd you back guys about the draft, apologies once again for leaving this late...
