Was it Steve Walsh? From What I saw, it seemed that the fowards and backs were all over the place. It was like watching League. Forwards at 2nd 5 and on the wing. Good grief.

If the Wellington Lions lose this afternoon, we could actually have a season where our attendences beat theirs?

I appreciate some of this is thwe coaching but surely the players have to accept responsibility for a lot of it. Inept performances wont win you anything.

I'd be extremely disappointed if the nix attendance average was lower than the lions attendance this year. If it was they may as well fold up the club. I was at the Wellington Tasman game the other week there was probably just over a thousand there. There is no other word for it the lions have been shit.

Our crowds have been higher than the Lions for the past 5 years.

Yet any article around declining attendance is centred around the nix. (Even though our attendance is fairly steady around 6000)

I'm not one to gloat at the expense of rugby. oh wait yes I am. But heard some interesting things about Wellignton Rugby. Apparently they are a shamble at the moment. Staff leaving here, there and everywhere.

The ethos within Wellington Rugby has been going downhill for some time. It has finally caught up with the Union but like most Rugby organisations, you bury your head in the sand and act if nothing is wrong.

1) Are the Lions still a mess?

2) How have the 'Canes turned things around?

3) How much would the 'Canes beat the All Blacks by?

"...sure beats doin' stuff."

I've looked for this thread numerous times and never found it. So thanks Ryan. I managed to get tickets to the final( I actually got 7 thanks to fudge ups by ticketek). Wow I've been to games in sharkty weather before. But that was something else. I imagine that the hospital was later inundated with drinks with hypothermia. Anyway, fudgeing go canes! What a win!

good to see the hurricanes stopping off in wanganui on their way to waverly on thursday, they had a training run at cooks gardens, signed autographs and a group went to the hospital childrens ward, all good ways to attract more fans and interst in the team.

Always good when they visit the heartland. They do some good stuff in and around Masterton around the annual Mangatainoka game. Good to see the rural game taken to another region this year though. They need to do better at engaging with all 8 provinces, not just Wellington, or others might go the way of Taranaki.

Unless there was a huge crowd on the same side of the stadium as the cameras, was that an all time low crowd for the Lions despite being a semi final?? Only looked like about 2,000 in attendence.

With that cold northerly blowing through I doubt if there were many more on the camera side of the ground.

Foster getting sacked in the morning?

Think Football in NZ could really have stolen a march on rugby if AWs had qualified for Qatar.

I'm overseas but my rugby mates are pretty despondent about the ABs. Plus I see today another about an ex rugby international (Ryan Jones from Wales) has been diagnosed with dementia at age 41. Many mums will just say no to little Johnny playing rugby, and AWs at Qatar with general upbeat football mode on the biggest stage would have accelerated that.

I played Senior B rugby (it's what you do in rural Rapa and Manawatu at uni), as a 85-90kg loose forward. Now that's a typical half back. If I had a son I'd think twice about them playing the game now.

Hurricanes suffering the same fate as the Nix and not making the final.   And losing to a team that finished in a lower position to them on the ladder.

Anyone else remember when All Black games would sell out.  Cheapest adult ticket is $53.07 plus all the fees. Might be a few empty seats on Saturday night.

I remember when hurricane games would sell out

I remember when the stadium opened and there was a BIG waiting list to become a  season ticket holder. The Season tickets had sold out.

First sub 20,000 crowd for a regular Super game wasn't until 2006, and even then it was 19,800.

The big consistent dropoffs started to happen in 2008. So to quote a mate "it's either Helen Clark or John Key's fault!"

Even the Lions used to get above 15k to games but now they have to play at Jerry Colins.
