So what is everyone's CWC starting XI looking like right now?

Based on selections and performance, something like this...

  1. Guptil (what's the other option?)
  2. McCullum (would prefer him at 5 but he will open for CWC)
  3. Williamson
  4. Taylor
  5. Elliot
  6. Anderson
  7. Ronchi
  8. Vettori/N McCullum (can't decide here - maybe Vettori due to his ability to restrict)
  9. Milne
  10. Southee
  11. McClenaghan

Leaves Out:

Boult, Latham, Mills and either Vettori or McCullum

I like that team, but id like to see Boult get some game time too.

Three for me, and two for them.

Southee, Boult, McClenaghan and Milne could all be rotated against any team and do well. Headache comes in during knock out phases.

I wonder why we haven't seen Elliot in the attack yet?

I'd have Vetorri over McCullum, I think we have enough good fielding and batting that we can carry Vetorri for the sake of his better run restriction.

The way I see it re the pace attack. Southee will play as he is the attack leader. Mills and Boult are fighting for one spot with Milne and Mitch fighting for the other. I can't see them having both Milne and Mitch in the same side but they like having that one out and out agressive guy who they don't mind going for a few as long as he takes a couple of wickets.

Of those couplings, no idea who I would pick. Absolutely no idea.

It's a real shame Latham didn't score some runs last night, but even so, Guptill's spot must surely be under threat.

Mine would be:
  1. Latham (just sick of Guptill)
  2. McCullum
  3. Williamson
  4. Taylor
  5. Elliott
  6. Anderson
  7. Ronchi
  8. N McCullum (just feel he has slightly more batting firepower than Vettori the noodler)
  9. Southee
  10. Mills (one word - experience)
  11. Boult (think that Milne is still too raw and unpredictable)

Ok, due to lack of interest it's now an Onslow CC league but you're all welcome to join.

Don't you all wish the Black Caps would show some consistency? This fluctuation between 280-350 is getting really tiresome. And all these different players doing well, just shows that none of them can be consistently good.

Another cracking performance yesterday. Bizarrely, I'm now starting to wonder whether our build-up to the CWC has been too easy. But maybe I'm just a typical Black Caps fan for whom every silver lining has a cloud.

I think it would have been good to play in Australian conditions at some point recently, and against one of Aussie, SA, or England to get some exposure to decent seam/swing bowling in a game environment.

I would say that NZ conditions these days are very similar to Australia with Napier and Eden Park being hard and fast and then Hamilton/Dunedin offering slower conditions with a bit of movement.

Our own net time vs Adam Milne (and assume that Matt Henry may still train with them?) will help with facing the pace and then one of the top new ball pairs in the world with Southee and Boult going through their paces at the batsmen as well.

In recent times, due to amount of T20 played against varied competition, we've become accustom to pace and swing and struggled more against spin the and dibbly-dobbler bowlers which we have now addressed.

We are as prepared as any team in this competition and comparatively, Aussie and RSA have recently faced some pretty poor England, India and West Indies sides so their prep is no better than ours.

Morning all,

not sure if any of you knew as there hasn't been much on about it, especially with Super Rugby starting but there appears to be some kind of Cricket Cup involving countries from around the world starting tomorrow.

I think mainly being played in Aussie but someone mentioned some games here as well - it might all be someone pulling my leg but seems legit.

Anyone running a sweepstake and have any tips on how to do it? I ran the football World Cup and Melbourne Cup ones at work last year and have just returned from 2 weeks off this morning and first thing 3 people have said to me is "is there a cricket world cup sweepstake? Thought I was going to have to do it with you away."

Had thought about it but with there being so few teams and only a handful of good ones I didn't think it would work for an office with 30-40 people. Unless it's maybe done in pairs or something with people sharing teams. Or just run 2 at the same time so there's double the teams.

Judging by last nights opening ceremony, it seems its just a massive school play we are advertising.

Same here. I'd break it down by player for a big office with prizes going to the top batsman and top bowler. People can pick players from a hat and can get more than one player.

Price them as $2 for a test playing nation player, $1 for associate player.

Hmm, sounds a bit more complicated than I can be bothered with. People who don't know a lot about it might be more excited by getting a team than some player they haven't heard of. From experience with the football one, some of the people didn't know much about it but quite liked getting a country and following the results. Might just run 2 so there's 28 teams to go around and do a prize for winner, runner up and least runs scored. That way the people who get the minor teams have a chance of getting something. Did something similar for the football one with a prize going to worst goal difference in the group stage so effectively last place.

World Cup day. I'm pumped!  Pumpedness will likely wain over the next few weeks while the incredibly pointlessly long group stage designed to practically guarantee India and the big teams make it through to the next round drags on, then pumpedness will peak for the knockout stages!

hmm, I dunno, the bit across the bottom is alright but why does the score in the top corner have those yellowy-green bits sticking out?

Anyway, good start so far...
