I thought they would be a lot worse than they were - worrying signs for the BlackCaps?

So John Wright is goneskis. Thoughts?

If Jamie Siddons becomes the new coach, we'll have quite a few Australians in the coaching mix.

My thoughts are: I don't think I have ever come across an organisation that strives so hard to shoot itself in the foot as New Zealand Cricket.

Yeah, I thought it might turn a corner when JV left, but apparently not. *sigh*

Good to see McCullum get a few runs overnight though.

Groan.

Not that I was expecting us to do well on this tour but losing by 56 runs in T20 is pretty awful.

Given the article I posted above, i'm not surprised.

I honestly couldn't care less, lets get into some ODI's and tests already, does anyone really make a big deal about two t20 exhibitions? Because to be honest that's what they are, in Florida and all

I get what you're saying but I think that the shorter the game the less the difference between the two sides is exposed. If we get walloped this badly in a T20 I hate to think what the rest of the tour will look like. But I agree that as matches themselves these games are pretty meaningless.

I think I just subconsciously wanted to wallow in some NZ cricket fan angst too.

Kinda get your point, but the Windies do have 3 of the best t20 players in the world at the moment, and we had 3 of our best out. I think we should be more competitive in the longer format(s).

I didn't even know this was on - just found out today when I turned the TV on this morning to watch the EURO final.

lol - http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/opinion/7237122/Black-Caps-top-job-is-mission-impossible

I quite liked this bit especially:

Working experience

– preferably to have international playing experience, ideally for New Zealand.

"Like John Wright did?"

– proven world-class coach as demonstrated by previous results.

"Like John Wright was?"

– strong practical experience in developing elite players ...

"Like John Wright had? Why on earth didn't you guys just re-appoint him?"

Skills and knowledge

– competent in the use of current Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly Outlook and Word.

"Oh, I see why now – that's a biggie."

I don't know if it matches the post 92 World cup early to mid 90's era stretching from the 92 SL tour through to pre Rixon, but it is getting there.

Someone explain why BJ is batting at 6? Best one day player in NZ cricket, we are wasting him down the order, having to slog it out with our tail (where has Mills' batting disappeared to?)

Turned on the cricket this morning and we're on top! Craziness. Watling might be out of the tour though

Also, how the hell is Oram still trundling down those medium-pacers? I kinda thought his body would just shatter the moment he picks up a ball these days.

I actually put a few on us at $4.20, thought that was a bit excessive. Picked Gayle to be gone early, though I thought it'd be Boult who'd get him. Good to see most batsmen have at leats got a few runs this tour, nobody in a complete slump, though I was a bit disappointed when Nicol made more than Flynn. Hopefully BJ is fit for the tests.

Just as a sidenote - I'm totally out on Dean Brownlie. Has only made runs when dropped several times. Looks like we have enough depth without him though.

Not particularly enthused with the Hesson appointment. Seems like NZ Cricket backed themselves into a corner a bit, the best options were Aussies, but that'd go down awfully. Hesson has barely won anything, and his "international experience" was with the dreadful Kenyan side. I wonder if Grant Bradburn applied, and if so, why he wasn't selected.

Not much between Hesson and Bradburn. I think Bradburn was interested but don't know how far that went. I know all the players around the place have a lot of respect for Hesson though. I don't know about the current 'egos' in the side though, I think Wrighty had a good hold on them but will be interesting to see if Hesson can do the same.

Yeah maybe and that would be because Buchannan and co are pulling the strings at the top. I do know there were a number of coaches interested from the beginning, but can't say whether any pulled out after learning more details about the job. I know Siddons was dead keen on it and he had the credentials but yeah, I think Buchannan knew it wouldn't be wise to apoint a fellow dingo.

I can see why we got rid of Wright now

It was pretty clear we were never going to get a high profile/highly qualified coach as:

a) we don't pay enough and

b)No highly qualified coach would agree to being the number 2 man under anyone, including John Buchanon.

Just one time, i want a coach/captain to say: screw the result, lets make 1000 and break a world record. Totally could have been achieved today

Yeah but I reckon Baz opening is better for him and the team than having him at first drop. I think its time for Williamson to step into the no 3 role

Dropping/missing 4 catches so far probably isn't helping us.  Must be disheartening working your ass off on a flat pitch as a bowler knowing your not going to create a lot for that to happen.
