Can you clarify? Do you mean 'yay' on organised religion, or 'yay' on believing in God?

Not religious.  But if people what to be and they thinks its helps them get through life or whatever then good on them. A higher power is something i just don't beleive in.

I just hate other people pushing their religion on you (you know who you are!! haha).  I mostly try do the polite thing and say 'sorry its not my thing'.  but if they continue then i get angry and start pulling out arguments against there be a god.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of organised religion, although at times it does fulfill a useful social function.
As for belief in God, I go by agnostic.

I believe in God and Jesus.

However I don't think I should be "told" by preachers/pastors/people what to believe. I'm not saying I don't listen to them. I think that I should listen to them and decide for myself weither I agree with what there saying basically.

I also don't agree with "shoving" Christianity "down people's throats" especially in a door-to-door kind of way. Infact I personally think that people who do that type of thing put people of Christianity. In saying that I also think that if someone wants to here about my faith I should share it.

I believe in the religion called Nixopia. A wise and noble man is our pope, named Ricki Herbert. He is the manager of our religion. We are known to get very passionate about our religion, and proceed to question all other religions as to who they are (usually in a chant). We believe in a god called Terry Serepisos

True. When I say wants to hear I don't walk around asking people on the street "Do you want to here about my God?". I mean if the topic comes up i'll share, or if people ask me about it.

Well, we've had Swing Lo in England (bizarre for a deep south gospel song, but never mind); when the saints was appropriated by Spurs and others...

so what's to say the next Nix chant shouldn't be to the tune of Cum by ya (apologies for spelling, but it's been years since I've been to church...some geezer tried to throw water on my head....)

I was followed by this one guy walking down from Uni to cuba mall.  I was polite at the start and said 'no thanks' but he just kept going.  By the end he started to piss me off so i told him where to go. Then I he saw me a few days later at uni and came up to me again and said that 'god would forgive my sin'.  I just laugh when i think about it now

I don't mind if people have their own faith or a other beliefs but like the other posts I hate it when someone trys to hand you a psalm from the bible or tell you about there god. I personally don't get into the whole religion myself.

I'm a Christian, therefore God is important to me and I am open about my faith and ready to talk about Him. I believe He is relevant to life today, but I respect the rights of others to see things differently from me.loyalgunner2008-02-04 17:11:18

Weak atheist here.

It's extremely unlikely that a higher power exists but, in the absence of knowing absolutely everything, one cannot say with certainty that no higher power exists.

you forgot the four elephants holding up the disk who are standing on the back of the turtle.

As someone who studied religion for academic reasons, i can understand the point of view some faiths have in trying to convert people. Jehovah's witness (the most common door knockers) believe that a "Apocalypse" is coming and everyone not a member of their church will be destroyed, so that why they are quite persistent . the other extreme is Hinduism (not the Hari Krishna sect) they have a basic belief that everyone on the planet is a Hindu whether they realize it or not. those who choose not to follow their faith are basically wasting their chance at this incarnation (which is quite a blessing as it takes a lot of positive karma to be reborn as a human) to achieve enlightenment and ascend to a higher being.

If i got one of the facts wrong here don't judge me for failing to recall the exact details from a 1/2 semester paper i sat 9 years ago.
BTW I'm Agnostic. Anything is possible, as long as its provable.

All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and you are the imagination of yourself.

there may very well be a god, or many gods for that matter.

its not that i dont believe its just that if there is a higher being then why would they want us to waste our time praising them. surely if god is all powerful then he/she doesnt need an ego boost.

also on the topic of religious extremism, god(s) would want peace and acceptance, not the very flawed logic of we'll kill you because youre different.

Isn't that a bit of a contradiction? The nature of god is such that his existance can't be proven - at least scientifically. I would have thought the agnostic believes god's existance is a possibility, but only because it's more or less impossible to prove that he/she/it doesn't.

Proving the non-existance of anything is always pretty hard...
