Guy Fawkes and dickhead neighbours who must have made a roster to be able to keep the bangs and squeals going for hours... why can't they all just let them off at once so my pets will come out from under the couch stealthkiwi2011-11-05 22:30:01

I would vote for any party that promises to ban the sale of all fireworks to the general public. People can go along to displays and little sh*ts won't get their hands on them and terrorise the neighbourhood. lol my cat has been hidden under the couch for 3hrs but the problem is that my rabbits were already hiding under there so they have broken out an uneasy truce

Other people can have fun without creating extra work for the police and emergency services.

It only takes one moron to ruin hundreds of peoples nights...

Everything is fine in moderation. Only problem is when some people don't know when they've reached their limit.

Yes have a drink. Yes let off some fireworks. Just be mindful of others whilst you are doing it!C-Diddy2011-11-06 15:16:46

I'm pissed off that you can't get real firecrackers anymore. Just pissy little volcanoes and candles that shoot up 3 ft in the air.

Feel really sorry for my kids - no chance to save up tom thumbs and double happies and then try and blow up various toys over the rest of the year.

whilst this was one of my fave things to do, it was the numptys who put double happys in cats ears or tied them to the dog and set the off that got them banned!

Back in the day there was a lot of a thrill in being able to physically light the fuse and destroy something (mostly old plastic models). Jnr Jnr lit his first pissy little ground spinning firework and was stoked.

There really is a lot of satisfaction in being able to blow things up that is being denied to our yoof of today.

This is exactly the reason it should be denied. If they get great satisfaction out of something so small can you imagine what they would be like if they were allowed to upgrade to something larger?

At least when we were younger we would accept responsibilty if we broke ourselves when playing with dangerous objects.

I still remember my mother telling me "It's your own stupid fault" for being knocked off my bike when riding over my neighbours driveway when he was reversing his car out.

If that were to happen nowadays then my neighbour would be charged with reckless driving or similar because I was stupid enough to run into his car!

NB - This is not a personal attack on you Junior82, just a general rant aimed at the stoopid folk who walk among us!

But this is part of the issue.  Kids need to be able to take risks and learn about responsibility or consequences.  Sure some of those consequences can be horribly bad with fireworks - which is why the gummnt has succesively made them harder to get and more and more timid.

I think however that some of this type of approach really panders to the lowest common denominator and suppresses learning by experience.

When Jnr Jnr first starting making airplane models I was really nervous about a sharp craft knife in the hands of an 8 year old.  He's still got all of his fingers and hasn't adopted self-mutilation as a form of entertainment.  I shouldn't have been surprised, I did all of that stuff too and survived - so really we can provide stifflingly safe environments or we can provide information and advice to minimise risks and allow people to make their own decisions.

Oh yes, and although I know you weren't directing the post at me C-Dids, as far as I am aware I have not blown up any cars or buildings with my $24 Warehouse boom box mixture.

(my 1:250 plastic hospital ship and numerous 1:76 airfix tanks and halftrack yes.  But they were mostly Nazi ones so that's OK isn't it?)

My brother had all the allied stuff and I was the Germans.

I liked my paratrooper, mountain troops and Afrika Korp airfix infantry, but my armour was a bit more dispensible.

For the record while the Nazis were the baddies in WW2, they had the best gear and kits.

(although I was quite taken with the long range desert patrol)

I am now mildly concerned that you will be teaching your offspring to catch fish using explosives...

People who believe that if it's on the internet it must be true!

Just spent 15mins trying to get it into somebody's head that a particular camping supplier had not existed for over 7 years and that is was physically impossible for a product available on TradeMe to be a brand new product from that supplier!

Numpties!!!

For what it's worth I recently chose Wellington over Auckland. Was a job offer involved and easily the hardest decision of my life.

The best advice I could offer you though is that the people that know you well will be better suited to helping you than the people on here.

That and Nix all the way!

Haha thanks for that. Just thought I'd gather as many opinions as I could. It is a hard decision though I agree!

Having to wait ONE MORE WEEK til I can see the surgeon for a consult.  Being in this much pain sucks!!

Has anyone tried to stray from the dominant hand in writing.  What I mean is, has any right handed person given it a serious go and writing left handed?  I am beginning to think I may need to do this except it takes too much time and frustration.  Tips appreciated
