I imagine the commerce commission would be all over that behaviour. Crazy they've come out in the media and basically said they were employing predatory pricing!

It was pretty obvious when locations with a Gull were 20c cheaper than places without a Gull. The CC should've been all over it, but it was low pricing which they seem less concerned with.

I guess petrol prices are a sensitive issue. The CC forcing a petrol company to have higher prices (or retrospectively punishing them) wouldn't be a great look to the public.

I'm unclear on what Gull is doing wrong... how can supermarkets have loss leading advertising but Gull can't?

If Gull want to sell their petrol cheaper, good luck to them. Surely not at a loss as they are not big enough to sustain it for long.

They were selling it at a loss, it didn't last long, that's why price at all the stores in the North Island provinces have gone up 20-40c this week...Other companies put theirs at the same price meaning Gull had no chance, and they got killed. Lifted their price and everyone else followed suit.

Is there a break down of costs that we pay at the pump vs the environmental cost?  I'd be interested in seeing where this subsidy comes from.

From this article - http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv-radio/68750151/the-sad-end-of-john-campbell

Six weeks ago, when the axing of the show was first raised, fans rushed to its aid, parking bums on seats and demonstrating their loyalty as the ratings started to top the 6pm news bulletin. But the writing was on the wall as the show was rumoured to be too pink in its persuasion by friends of John Key, high up in the echelons of MediaWorks.

Ten years ago, Campbell Live entered the scene as a compassionate, deeper thinking alternative to TVNZ's more staid current affairs and stood its ground. Recent moves by MediaWorks to become the emperors of reality TV meant that Campbell Live became a strange fit for them.

Bolded comments piss me right off.  A sad day for journalism.    We are being dumbed down by reality tv.

100 per cent this. I don't mind a bit of reality TV, but there is also a place for proper reporting and asking hard questions. Who is going to pose these questions to the right wing don keys of this world. Mike Hoskings, Paul Henry? Its an absolute joke.

Mediaworks are a business not PBS. If they think they can make more money sans Campbell so be it.

Possibly a bit harsh.

Whilst a strong arguement can be made that Mainstream Entertainment has been consciously dumbed down for 30 years not only do I think NZ is not yet USA but also the slide / descent to that particular wasteland is preventable.

Fox is a a megaphone for right wing bulls#!t and keeping the watchers stupid. TV3 is starting to do the same thing.

Although much better than the odious Hosking, Campbell's exceedingly fruity voice used to get on my nerves. Always sounds like he's half way through a mince pie.

Yea it's absurd.

We have one of the biggest tournaments in the world happening here, may be worth a mention or two.

TVNZ led their news last night with FIFA and the U20's, and gave it really good coverage too.

Trump as always will pull out at the very last minute. But it has put him back in the spotlight for a short while. No such thing as bad publicity.

Bush would be dangerous, two failed and this one might try and finish the job. Also note he had the 2nd highest number of executions in his state....behind Texas that was then being run by J.W. Bush.

Obviously not "as always"

went to see the Miami Marlins play the NY Yankees the other evening , wanting to see a Marlins victory. Got stuck in traffic on the way to the stadium due to an accident, arriving at the bottom of the 1st innings. The score was 8-0 to the fish and it was basically over as a competition. Tried to stay positive thinking that I might still see some interesting baseball, but after a few pretty uneventful innings decided to go and get something to eat in the middle of the 5th. Stood in a queue for some (terrible) pizza, listening to 2 Miami batsmen get on base, and the next one hit a home run. Got back to my seat and it was 11-0 and I had not seen a run scored. Finished 12-2 so I saw a couple of consolation runs, but it seemed to me the night consisted of Marlins and Yankees players saying to each other "quick, he had gone to the bathroom, let's play some ball..."

unlucky!

I travelled over to America a few years back. Had a couple of games lined up. The first was at Yankee stadium. We decided not to go to the game on the day we arrived as we'd be too tired from a long flight. That game was an 8-7 (ish) thriller. Game next day was rained off. Went for a tour of the stadium at least a few days later, and was told it was closed as they were shooting a movie. So fudge the Yankees. Lesson learned, ALWAYS go to the first available game.

Had booked a seat behind home plate in Tampa. Really underestimated how difficult it was to get there from Disney. After way too much angsting about whether or not to go, I decided I had already paid good money for the ticket and given Yankees was rained off it was my only chance to catch a game. So forked out the ridiculously high taxi fare to and from the game (talking $100s)

Due to my angsting, I also turned up at the bottom of the 1st. Was walking up the aisle to my seat, just out of view of the ground, when Evan Longoria hit a solo home run. Was fun seeing the croud cheer etc, but ultimately didn't see it. Was disappointed but figured there were another 8 innings. The Rays won 8-0 and there wasn't a further home run.

So am yet to tick "watch a major league home run" off the bucket list.
