Yes.

That is nonsense. It is more a fact.

It's only fact if facts back it up and every stat that I've seen shows that Asian drivers are statistically no worse than any other. They often come from cities which are much more densely populated than NZ so are often extremely cautious and slow.

My experience is that Auckland drivers are shocking. Any race, creed or colour.

They should bulldoze the motorways and put in cycleways and light rail to replace them so they aren't tempted to drive for everyone's safety.

Unless you have lived and driven in Auckland means you have no idea.

I read all the stats about HCMC  but until I went there I had no idea that scooters ride on the pavements, coming at you from both directions.

Yes I've lived and driven in Auckland. I've also driven in Blagoveshchensk, Zeya, Harbin, and Osaka. All of which are cities on the Asian continent.

Can I ask a question?

Kiwi Hatte, you mention on here about your daughters a couple of times. How would you feel if a fellow YF fan said the same thing you did/said to DaveNZ to your daughters?

If you tell me that's inappropriate, then this conversation ends.

If you are claiming that ALL Asian drivers in Auckland are shocking. I would say you're stereotyping and generalising a large demographic of people. If you assess someones ability to drive based on their race, and believe your own demographic is better, then that pretty much falls under (googles) definition of racist.

If you are claiming that SOME Asian drivers in Auckland are shocking, I would agree. However, I think it would be a moot point bringing up Asian drivers in particular, because every demographic has shocking drivers, even us white guys!

If you are claiming that MOST Asian drivers in Auckland are shocking, (How could you possibly know that and claim it to be a fact) I would ask you what proportion of Asian drivers in Auckland have you seen drive as compared to the population of Asian drivers in Auckland. Because until you've seen at least the majority of Asian drivers in Auckland (that's a lot of people, so I'm doubtful) and have some sort of recording of this, and an agreed upon criteria by which what constitutes a 'shocking driver'  then you have no basis to consider this a fact. You would be basing this claim on no evidence, other than a stereotype, thus meaning that pretty much falls under (googles) definition of racism.

If they're like my family then they'll just assume that the drivers are either Asian or a Woman (or both) without actually seeing who it is.

I never suggested all Asian drivers are shocking, but the poor driving I have seen quite a few were Asian.

I lived and drove cars for 37 years in Auckland so I have seen somewhat more than most. When the influx of Asians arrived in the 80's the biggest complaint was that their standard of driving was poor. Most of those did not sit their tests in NZ.

You can google whatever you want, but I am not racist and I don't care what you think.

I wasn't there, but the blow by blow from both parties seems consistent and to me it doesn't seem like there was any sort of threat, just a drunken "listen to me" grab, followed by a "don't attack me" retort, and then a "if I attacked you, you'd know it" explanation/boast.

It's all pretty typical of a night out with a few beers, the crazyest thing to me is not what happened but that Hatter didn't just try and forget about it and move on but instead brought it up here.

That’s the main gist of it, & the reason I bought it up here, was because of the PC BULLSHIT that has permeated the Yellow Fever.

That pisses me off, as I believe it has ruined what used to be a bloody good group. There are many people that used to be regulars on here, that no longer bother even going to the games (some of them have season tickets but still don’t go!) There are many others that do not associate themselves with Yellow Fever, because of the attitude of the “Yellow Fever Elite”

Up until Saturday, even though I had voiced my opinions about the “YF Elite”, I put up with it. But, on Saturday there seemed to be a new sanctimonious air about them throughout the day, which had been noticed, & commented on, by others in Auckland.

The Yellow Fever appear to be going in the same direction as the team,  that some of us have followed since 2007.

Great, and I never claimed you did. Could this be confirmation bias, though?

"I have seen somewhat more than most" - How could you possibly know that, even with 37 years in Auckland?

"You can google whatever you want, but I am not racist and I don't care what you think."

1) I used google definitions because I imagine they are the most agreed upon, is there an issue with these definitions?

2) If you don't care what other people think, then why ask whether something is racist or not, if you don't care about an answer someone gives if they disagree with you?

Lets say you personally witnessed an average 2 shocking asian drivers for every single day you've lived in Auckland. That's 27010 shocking asian drivers you've theoretically witnessed. Admittedly, I'm not sure how many of these fall under drivers, but there are 307,233 Asians in Auckland from the last census in 2013. So you've theoretically witnessed under 9% of the Asian population shockingly driving, yet this has led you to claim it a fact that Asian drivers in Auckland are shocking. Is this reasonable to conclude this as a 'more of a' fact?

I'm not saying you hate other demographics etc etc. But let's not call opinions, facts, unless you have sufficient evidence for your opinion to be considered a fact.

Got on the piss

Called all our Asians shark drivers

Called our Indians dairy owners

Physically threatened each other

And then fudgeed off back to your sharkty little town

I wonder if the fact that the forum has become PC has driven people away, or if it's more PC because people have left. My guess is that the the bulk of the initial people on here have simply faded away and haven't been replaced, or have gone to other communities.

It's pretty natural for people to drift away after ten years, if you're in your twenties at the start then you're in your thirties at the end and things life family takes priority. I've seen it time and time again with my mates and things we used to do.

The whole "PC BULLSHIT" thing is just the natural evolution of society, just look at how society has changed over the last century, and how it changed in the century before that and you'll see a general move towards fairness and tolerance. What's happening now is less momentous than what happened in the US in the sixties, or NZ in the 19th century but it's more of the same theme. NZ is maybe more PC than most places, but that's pretty consistent with how we've been at the forefront of liberty and human rights for most of our history.

Change sucks, but what's happening is not out of character or unexpected.

wow how did i miss that lot.

Not about to pass comment or judge any thing that was said at the game.

However when it comes to the Aussie stuff i think some of you are getting confused between good old fashioned kiwi/aussie banter and something more sinister. I have many aussie family and friends and some of the stuff said when it comes to sporting fixtures would obviously have some of you moaning like banshees. Would suggest some of you dont attend an away game in Aussie because some of stuff that they call us will cause you major distress.

I don’t get how you can get abusive, then play the victim and say everyone else is the bad guy.

The ‘elite’ (whatever that even means) person you mention was trying his best not to get involved - but you kept aggressively going on at him (even the next day on the forums!)

I literally just saw him standing there taking the abuse from you. It was incredible of him not to react.

The person who called you out on the comment was a fan from Auckland, not even someone you’d consider to be part of the ‘elite’ group you’ve been on a crusade against for weeks now.

My 2 cents worth - Patrick, having driven up and back from Auckland more than a few times to games, the driving up there is abysmal. Indicators appear to be an optional extra and they don't appear to know what "zipper merging" is about. Then there was the case coming up on this trip where there were no road works nor an accident involved but a 15 kilometer traffic jam that was impressive. On a Saturday?

Sorry Aucklander's in general, I thought Wellington drivers were bad, but you guys in general, are taking the cake.

Another thing that pisses me off is that Wellington don't have a Carl's Jr franchise down here. The one at North Harbour was superb and the Burger looked exactly like the photo version.

I have not and don't want to enter into the debate going on about other "things". I was there for the football and found it almost as distracting as watching the actual football itself, turning green as the paint on the sand affected it during the course of the first half. What a SHIT pitch !

I think we can all agree that Carls Jr is needed in Wellington.

LG, there's one here in Palmy. Enough of a reason to bring a game to the Ring of Dirt? haha

Things that piss you off...
