Hills - more precisely running down them, just did 15.5ishkm as I've the half marathon in a couple of weeks and I'm very ill prepared. Just done a night run and going up Airlie Road was fine but coming down was a killer on the knees.

I dunno, I found it varying to extremes, especially at customer service places. A lot are really awesome people, but there are also a fair few who lived up to the stereotypes.
That's what I found in NY and Florida anyway.

Best of luck with that. Sadly my surgeon says I have to give up anything that put stress on my knees. Football and golf being two of  my loves, havegone by the board. Eventually a knee replacement will happen.

Have done Airlie Road a number of times both running and cycling. Great route past the cemetery and along the old motorway to Pukerua Bay, but it is a horrid hill.

Yeah I used Airlie to practice hills on the bike also. The Pukerua Bay route, (with a little bit added on), starting at Puk Bay and then down the cycle track through Plimmerton and up Arlie was a really nice run. Going to skip tonight as the knees are still a bit sore and  maybe do an 8km run tomorrow.

Yeah, when I was heading back to Wgtn I would always forget to change down the gears after the cemetery and get stuck on that sudden hill on the bend to the left. Took me ages to remember early. ha.
Just getting back into a couple of hill runs myself. Nothing like a good hill to really remind you of the extra kgs you've put on lately.

Yes and it's what everyone is wearing in Paris.

Here's Joaquin Phoenix...

And Beck from Odelay fame not quite managing it.

Dave mate you are all good if you wanna wear a flat cap as you'd not look out of place on an allotment. (that's not an insult as my Granddad had several allotments).

One thing that really pissed me off today was seeing a bloke with knee-length spray on shorts when he didn't have the figure for it. My mind was aghast.

People who dismiss sport as "just a bunch of grown men chasing a ball around". Fair enough if you don't like sports but there's no need to be a condescending douchebag. I could just as easily dismiss movies, tv shows and theatre as a bunch of people playing make believe.

You tend not to see it so much in NZ where most folk "get" sport. I've never understood that attitude though as playing sport even at amateur levels requires at the very least commitment. When I did the enduro bike ride the training was crazy and gave me a real appreciation of what professional athletes put themselves through.

Yeah, and sport as entertainment is just another way of narratives about human experience being portrayed - good guys and bad guys, justice and redemption, plot twists and cliffhangers - people who have no problem engaging with other forms of entertainment to experience these things belittling sports fans is just hypocritical.

Perhaps they should be encouraged to watch a DVD of classic drama using sport as a major motif, e.g. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, or Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, or Goalkeeper's Fear of the Pen. etc. etc.
