That bloke who scored 300 in a local cricket match recently. What an effort!

Three for me, and two for them.

That innings was a lot of things but impressive really isn't one of them. Funny though. The dude sounds like a massive dick head but funny that the kids had a cry about it.

Fuck this stupid game

Well obviously the kids are absolute shit. So he taught them a lesson. Fair enough.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah which is why it isn't that impressive

Agree with Buffon. Just like the Wanderers, they play senior men's football. Don't like it, don't play it. If they want 'development and win', farm those kids out to other teams or play in a level that is appropriate to their talent.

I don't disagree with that. I just don't think it's all that impressive from his point of view. The original article in the paper was about how much of a great achievement it was. No ex first class cricketer should be okay with that being printed.

The journo in question has a reputation for writing fluff pieces but in his defence he also prints some pretty decent football reports too.

I was at a London Fashion Week show yesterday, and while my wife went to the bathroom I was trying to check the football scores.  There was a mother and daughter sat next to me, also checking their phones at the same time.  Being the dashing, young urbanite that I am, I charmingly leaned over and said "you guys trying to check the football results as well?".  Much to my surprise, they said yes, and after a brief discussion it turned out that they were Aston Villa season ticket holders, traveled home and away to watch them play, and were only at London Fashion Week because Villa were playing on Sunday this weekend.  The girl was a model, but cared a great deal more about the Villa than fashion.

You really do meet other football fans in the most amazing places.

Yeah. And Ron Rash, Dave Lowell, Daniel Woodrell, Erskine Caldwell, Faulkner etc. I am fascinated by southern red necks and slavery and the myths and honour codes and all the accoutrements.

Must admit I'm not familiar with this genre but I totally enjoyed ...and the Ass Saw the Angel by Nick Cave, which I'd guess would be considered Southern Gothic?

haven't heard of it but sounds interesting, and Cave's pretty cool.

Yeah it's pretty awesome. Dude's got a way with words. The Penguin Classics edition is only about $10 too. I'll have to check out those other authors you mentioned when I've finished the retardly huge trilogy I'm reading at the moment  - Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle

haha, just realised the baroque connection there too
