I thought they might have been tempted to play Sunday, that definitely would've improved the crowd.

So, as a neutral, which game should I go and see?  I really enjoy Kiwitea St as a venue so I am leaning towards Central v Wairarapa which also has the interest of being cross federation.  Never been to Birko's home ground but I have seen a couple of their games and they're quite good to watch.  What is the most appealing fixture?

If they sort it right in Auckland they'll have one game on the Saturday and one on the Sunday so you can see both

otherwise it is a very difficult decision to make and picking a winner from the games is even harder!

Both will play Sunday at 2pm. Birkenhead/Onehunga should be a cracking game with between 1000/2000 supporters plus a few from Onehunga.....

I don't think it's elaborate.

Oh, you wanted me to elaborate?

What I mean is that I'd like to see all senior footy off for the afternoon so that people can go to watch the Chatham Cup.

There used to be quite a risk in doing something like that of running out of playing days, but with turf available now that's not so much a thing.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

The central league round that was scheduled for that weekend has been moved to August 19 (which should spare Stop Out having to see the Central League decided at their home ground for a second year running) Wether or not that gets any extra along who knows, Wests always have decent crowds anyway.

Would be a shame if they both played Sunday (don't mind Central so much as they always do).

Would rob many of the chance to also watch the cracking NWKO quarterfinal between Glenfield and Forrest Hill.

99% of players dont give two sharks about a QF game like this and would be mightily pissed off at not playing.

suspect that figure drops to about 50% if you are only considering moving the Wests games, which is what the club is looking into

The club have commented before that the 1st team playing on Sun seems to have boosted crowds. I guess with the opposition travelling further, Saturday gives them a chance to boost numbers with away fans

Surely it's no surprise that Sunday afternoon works, when the majority of football players don't have football to play and can therefore watch.

Looks like it's Wests v Bay Olympic on Sat 5th, and the other 3 games all on Sunday 6th

Nelson v Cashmere 1pm

Birkenhead v Onehunga 2pm

Central v Wairarapa 2pm

Chatham Cup Quarter Finals this weekend

Western Suburbs (CL - Champions) v Bay Olympic (NLP - currently 7th)

Saturday 5th August, Endavour Park, KO 2pm

How they got here

Bay Olympic - Beat fellow Northern premier Forrest Hill-Milford United 3-1, snuck past Hamilton Wanderers 4-2 on pens after a 2-2 draw and fought of a spirited challenge from Northen Div 1 Western Springs to win 3-2

Western Suburbs - by scoring lots of goals, 26 in 4 games! 7-0 v Wainui, 7-1 v Napier Marist, 7-0 v Petone and 5-1 v Stop Out

Previous Chatham Cup Meetings - Never played

Best Performance

Western Suburbs – Won x3 (1935 (as Hospital), 1971, 2006)

Bay Olympic – Runners Up in 2010

My Pick - Western Suburbs to continue their unbeaten run

Nelson Suburbs (MPL - 3rd) v Cashmere Technical (MPL - 1st)

Sunday 6th August, Saxton Field, KO 1pm

How they got here

Cashmere Technical - 3-1 over Western before 2 big wins over Parklands (8-0) & Nomads United (7-0) then a 2-0 win over Dunedin's Caversham (only their 2nd loss in 2 years)

Nelson Suburbs - back in the cup after a 4 year break as they didn't want the extra cost of cup games (of course they were rewarded with a trip to Queenstown!) beat FC Nelson 6-1, Marlborough's Central Pirates 5-0, Coastal Spirit 1-0 then Queenstown Rovers 6-1

Previous Chatham Cup meetings

2012 Cashmere Technical 2 Nelson Suburbs 0

Best Performance

Nelson Suburbs – Semi Finalists in 2008

Cashmere Technical – Won twice in a row in 2013 & 2014

My Pick - Nelson Suburbs, because I used to watch them when I lived in Nelson

Central United (NPL - 4th) v Wairarapa United (CL - 2nd)

Sunday 6th August, Kiwitea Street, Auckland KO 2pm

How they got here -

Central United - all games against lower league opposition, 7-0 v Waitemata, 4-1 v Takapuna and 4-0 v North Shore

Wairarapa United - beat Island Bay 4-2, won a cup classic 5-4 aet over Napier City Rovers and beat Miramar 2-1

Previous Chatham Cup meetings - Never played

Best performance

Central United – Won x5 (1997,98,05,07,12)

Wairarapa United – Won in 2011

Central v Wairarapa or Auckland City v Tasman United? Both teams packed with National League players, both have nothing to play for in the league and everything to play for in the cup, both previous winners, this has all the ingredients for a cup classic

My Pick - Central in extra time

Birkenhead United (NPL-2nd) v Onehunga Sports (NPL-1st)

Sunday 6th August, Shepards Park, Auckland, KO 2pm

How they got here

Onehunga Sports - couple of big wins, 6-1 over Tauranga City United, 5-0 over Hibiscus Coast before beating Melville 1-0

Birkenhead United - 4-0 over local rivals Glenfield Rovers, 3-1 over East Coast Bays and 2-1 over Three Kings United

Previous Chatham Cup meetings (Onehunga Sports were known as Cornwall until 1986)

1981 Birkenhead United 4 Cornwall 0

1984 Birkenhead United 2 Cornwall 1

1991 Onehunga Sports 3 Birkenhead United 0

Best performance

Onehunga Sports – Semi finalists in 2014

Birkenhead United – last season when they won the cup for the first time

Northern Premier 1st v 2nd, another with potential for a cup classic, just a shame they scheduled the game at the same time as the Central-Rapa one. Only Birkenhead's 2nd home cup game in 2 seasons, although in the 8 away games they have had in that time they have traveled 110kms! which is a little bit less than Nelson Suburbs had to travel in the last round to play Queenstown Rovers!

My Pick - Birkenhead as they have the home advantadge

If you are going to list Western Suburbs under other names (IE Hospital) then I think you should do the same for Bay Olympic under also Blockhouse Bay winning the Cup as Bay Olympic are Blockhouse and Green Bay Titirangi amalgamated

Aye probably should have as Blockhouse Bay won it in 1970, beating Western Suburbs in a replay, actually I wrote about that a while ago

Why I didn't was that Blockhouse Bay and Green Bay-Titirangi were two separate clubs who joined together to create Bay Olympic

Western Suburbs are effectively the same club that began life in 1908 as Hospital, they changed their name to Western Suburbs in 1956, before another name change in 1973 to Porirua United, then Porirua Viard United in 1985 before back to Western Suburbs in 1992 (when Mana United joined with them as well)

Looks like wests didn't get the deferment of their senior games, their cap prem team is still due to kick off on Sat.

Actually, looks like there are a few issues to be sorted by capital football :>

Sat 5 Aug
Endeavour 1 (Map) Western Suburbs Wanderers vs Wellington United Honey Badgers

(Chatham Cup)

Given the state of Cap 8 right now I wouldn't be surprised if the Honeybadgers wanted to tap out after 60min! That Western Suburbs team has no business being that low down the grades.

Some hard nuts there.

Bay Olympic created even less. Pretty dire game, tbh.

Men against boys? Thought Wests were the runaway CL champs?
