Find it strange that homes teams, from now on in the Chatham Cup (apart from the Final) have to pay NZ Football a 'match fee', $250 + GST this round, then $350 +GST and finally $550 + GST for the semi's, this is in addition to the $250 + GST is costs to entry.

Wonder how much the ISPS Handa Sponsership is worth?

Those fees are supposed to be used to help travel costs from this stage on for away teams making 300km plus trips (Nelson, Caversham this round).

ISPS Handa sponsorship has had no practical impact on Chatham Cup fees (see also the 500 or 250 (I can't recall which) they pull in as an entry fee from 128 teams - that's either 64k or 32k, so where the fudge does it go? They just get their name out there (the money is in NZF's coffers somewhere).

Nelson Suburbs having to bus to Christchurch today, staying over night, flying to Queenstown, before staying overnight before flying back to ChCh and then busing back to Nelson on Sunday - costing the club around $10,000, so would be interesting to see what 'help' they will receive.

Fantastic 7 of 8 through today:

Cashmere

Nelson Suburbs

Wairarapa

Western Suburbs

Onehunga

Bay Olympic

Birkenhead

and Central or North Shore

Every possible quarterfinal looks tasty.

Hope Central and Mainland teams get their share of home games in the draw (Tuesday?)

Rapa deserved of their 2-1 win over Miramar. Rapa could've had another 2 or 3 goals but for poor finishing or option taking. Miramar largely disappointing, not creating much and only really testing Rapa keeper in the last 15 minutes. Rapa were missing Ifill who was resting an injury. They lose their Tasman striker Hajdari who is off overseas, but will still be a threat to any of the remaining quarter finalists.  Got to say the refereeing and assistant refereeing was abysmal for this level of football.

Especially the way NZF have managed to balls up some of the earlier draws. I'm sure it will be 'random'

Fitst time I have seen Wests play for a couple if yesrs now.

Really impressive on a surface that certainly would not suit them. For me most ipressive thing about them is their pressing game.  As soon as they loose the ball the switch clicks and they set about winning it back. No heads drop, no bitching and moaning, just set about regaining possession as quickly as possible.

The achieved this with such success that Cole Peverly was reduced to little more than a disinterested passenger in the SO midfield by the end of the game and the SO right back will have nightmares for weeks to come.

If they were not going to loose players to the US, they would be a good shout for a very long cup run.

Well done Declan and those at Wests / Ole. Whatever Koolaid you have them drinking, it works. Very well

This is an interesting paragraph from NZF's press release. "A speical free direct kick" and Birko went down the other end, waited for 8 minutes, then scored.

The hosts went ahead in the 51st minute when Alan Pearce hammered home a special free direct kick, but the response from Paul Hobson’s team was almost immediate. They went down the other end and eight minutes later got back on level terms through prominent striker Godwin Darkwa who delivered a fine solo effort.

Central 4 (Tade, Zambrano, Ilich x2)  North Shore United 0 scoreline looks a little wider than it should have been as Shore had their chances but just couldn't finish.

Birkenhead only had one home draw in two years and that was last year - none this year so I am not holding my breath for a home game

and the furtherest you've had to travel is what? Fencibles? don't worry you'll get another arduous away trip, this time to Sandringham or Onehunga :-)

Wouldn't have thought Birko would have too many complaints about the draws in recent times - 3 Home Semi Finals in 5 years ?

really tough for Birko though - not a home game since winning the thing, they can take solace in drawing Glenfield, Bays and Three Kings - but the club really wants to have a massive home game with their awesome supporters and make a bit of coin.

FYI give me Birko supporters over Waiheke anyday!

really tough for Birko? tell Miramar about tough, only 1 of their last 11 games has been at home and they have had to travel to Christchurch, Auckland, Napier and  Masterton 3 times

I think I worked out last season that Birko's total distance traveled was less than a one way trip to Napier for Miramar!

Birkenhead 4  Quarter finals in 5 years

2 home .2away.

Then lucky to get 2 home semi's .

Dont think they will mind a road trip at all....

Mirramars run last year was horrendous . Very good team last year also.

I'm pretty sure it can be tough on Birko and tough on Miramar without comparison?

You need to get a life mate. They had 3500+ at North harbour. Biggest crowd for a Chatham Cup final in many years and before you say 'but its only round the corner' If they made the final and its was played in Dunedin there would still be more Birkenhead supporters than locals! Its not our fault that the the game is played locally!

I went to the last game Birko had at home (against Miramar funnily enough) and the crowd was amazing, Shepherds is just a run of the mill Auckland Park and it was packed with people, kids - awesome to see.

I don't know why you want to start comparing things - birko supporters can be awesome without taking anything away from Auckland City fans or anyone else.

I only mentioned the comparison between them and Waiheke as a personal preference.

Obviously teams have hard draws than Birko but surely you can sympathize with those teams and with Birko as well - are we not all fans of the same game?

Back on topic, here is the draw. Home teams first, to be played weekend of 6-7th August.

Central United v Wairarapa United

Western Suburbs v Bay Olympic

Birkenhead United v Onehunga Sport

Nelson Suburbs v Cashmere Tech

That isn't so impressive when the draw is regionalised up until the quarter final and the final is always in Auckland. Am sure a few other teams have longer streaks than 5 years.

Good point but surely we should have at least been sent to the Waikato or Northland at least a couple of times in a regionalised draw.

the northern region is quite vast so it is still a little interesting to see they have not picked up a trip to Hamilton or something in the last 5 years.  Still yes I agree there will be teams with longer streaks but interesting nonetheless.

Superb from them. Hope CF oblige. In fact with turfs and things I would like to see all afternoon games moved when a big match like this is in town.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
