It's pretty much always been the next round, when there is 2 Mainland teams and 2 Football South teams left, when they are drawn together.

that came from NZ Football so you can take it with a pinch of salt!

At least they didn't draw any teams that had already been knocked out this time

Round 3 of the Chatham Cup this weekend

Miramar Rangers v Tawa DaveyF KO 2pm, Saturday

Yes it happened, Miramar got a home game in the Chatham Cup, the last one they had was in 2014 (when they beat Wests 1-0), since then they have played 10 games, all away, and traveled to Masterton (twice), Napier, Christchurch & Auckland.. oh as well as the Hutt Valley.

Miramar had a bye in Round 1 and beat Wellington United 4-2 in the last round

Tawa beat Stokes Valley 4-3 in Round 1 and Upper Hutt City 3-1 in Round 2

Previous Chatham Cup encounters

1996 Tawa 0 Miramar 1

2006 Miramar 5 Tawa 1

Tawa and Miramar first teams have met 18 times and Tawa has only ever won once (3-1 in 2012)

My Pick : Miramar

Stop Out v North Wellington Hutt Park, KO 2pm, Saturday

Stop Out beat Victoria University 2-1 in round 1, round 2 saw then thrash Palmy Marist 5-1

North Wellington beat BNU 4-1 in round 1 and New Plymouth Rangers 2-1 in round 2

Previous Chatham Cup Encounters

1984 North Wellington 0 Stop Out 2

1990 North Wellington 0 Stop Out 1

1991 North Wellington 2 Stop Out 2 - Stop Out won 4-1 on pens

My Pick : Stop Out

Petone v Western Suburbs Petone Memorial, KO 3pm, Saturday

The 15th Chatham Cup encounter between these two clubs, both three times winners of the Cup, Capital Premier league leaders, Petone, up against Central League leaders Wests. Petone drew 1-1 with Wests reserves last weekend

Petone beat Lower Hutt City 4-1 & Naenae 5-0 to get here, Wests beat Wainuiomata 7-0 & Napier Marist 7-1

Previous Chatham Cup Encounters

1927 Hospital 0 Petone 6

1930 Petone 2 Hospital 0

1933 Petone 4 Hospital 0

1934 Petone 3 Hospital 1

1935 Hospital 3 Petone 1

1936 Hospital 2 Petone 0

1950 Hospital 1 Petone 3

1954 Hospital 4 Petone 1

1957 Western Suburbs 3 Petone 7

1973 Porirua United 2 Petone 0

1974 Petone 0 Porirua United 5

1988 Petone 1 Porirua Viard Utd 4

2006 Petone 0 Western Suburbs 7

2014 Petone 0 Western Suburbs 1

NB Western Suburbs started life as Hospital FC in 1906, they changed their name to Western Suburbs in 1956, another name change happened in 1973 when they became Porirua United. They merged with Viard in 1987 to become Porirua Viard United and then a merger with Mana United in 1992 saw them revert to the Western Suburbs name

My Pick : Western Suburbs

Napier City Rovers v Wairarapa United, Bluewater Stadium (Park Island), KO 2pm, Sunday

The only all Central League clash in this round, a rematch of the 2011 final (which Rapa won 2-1)

Napier City Rovers beat Havelock North Wanderers 3-1 in the first round and Wellington Olympic 2-1 in the second

Wairarapa United had a bye in the first round and then beat Island Bay United 4-2

Previous Chatham Cup Encounters

2011 Wairarapa United 2 Napier City Rovers 1 (FINAL - played in Palmerston North)

2012 Napier City Rovers 1 Wairarapa United 0

2013 Napier City Rovers 1 Wairarapa United 2 - Wairarapa played an ineligible player and were disqualified

My Pick : really too hard to call

I'm already lining up "age and experience over youth and enthusiasm" if Petone manage a Cupset! :)

Went to Hibiscus v Onehunga at Stanmore Bay.

Half Time saw prospects of a cupset with HBC 1-0 up although the only action the Onehunga keeper had was to pick the ball out of the net after a crashing 20 yarder.

2nd half saw the difference in class take over and Onehunga ran out 5-1 winners.

First time I have seen Onehunga this season - interesting to see Adam Milne in a playmaker role rather than a left sided defender that was common at Auckland City . Was the best player on the pitch.

The young 16 year old LB for HBC Curtis Mogg who is off to the WPSS in Wgtn next year looks promising.

Wish some Referee would shut up Fletcher in the HBC goal - he is an embarrassment in my view.

Andrew Milne. Class player, still only 25. More than a few ACFC fans sorry to see him leave. Ramon seemed to prefer promoting Alfie Rogers to keeping Milny. Or maybe Milny got the hump.

Caught the first half of Stop Out vs North Welly.  Stop Out were behind for most of the first half in a pretty swampy Hutt Park after an early goal but had the best of play for the rest of the half.  Midfielder/goalkeeper Karl Romijn in goal for North Wellington was busy but kept things tight.

Off field highlight of the match was perpetually injured younger brother of coach Sambrooke being asked if he was Sambo's son.

Then nipped over to Petone to watch the Oles trample all over Petone.  Petone had patches where they were competitive but Wests carried on the 7 goal cup form and the league form from last week vs Wairarapa to win it at a canter.

Once again thanks to Capital Football who for the third round running have had the decency to cancel or postpone the Nighthawks for me.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Does anyone know when the draw for the next round will take place? Also will it still be divided into Northern, Central/Capital and Mainland/Southern regions or will this be the first round when they aren't allocated into regions?

Tuesday midday

Northern (8 teams), Central (4 teams) and South Island (4 teams) are the regions, though I'm wary Nelson Suburbs' involvement may lead to Mainland and Southern regions staying split, as it's a wrinkle that hasn't been present in recent years. We'll see. Hopefully not.

How did you know that ?

rigged draw? nah it's just that Nelson Suburbs haven't been competing in the Chatham Cup for the last few years due to cost and so when I saw who was in the draw, knew it would just have to be that - apparently the Nelson Suburbs fans called it in the club rooms after winning the Coastal Spirit game. If they beat Queenstown, they'll no doubt get an away trip to Auckland!

Anyway I went to Napier on Sunday for the Napier v Wairarapa game.

Here is my write up (don't worry I<3 Nix I didn't mention you breaking my car ;-))

But they could have just as well drawn Caversham away so that was a good call on your/Suburbs fans part.

Chatham Cup again this weekend

Stop Out (CL) v Western Suburbs (CL) #STOvWST

Saturday 15th July Hutt Park, KO 2pm

Wins over Uni (2-1), Palmy Marisy (5-1) & North Wellington (3-2) have given Stop Out their best run in the cup for 5 seasons

Western Suburbs Ole kids have averaged 7 goals a game in the cup (7-0 over Wainui, 7-1 over Napier Marist & 7-0 over Petone) but only managed a 1-0 against Stop Out in the league this season

Previous Chatham Cup meetings (includes games against the different Wests iterations, Hospital, Porirua United & Western Suburbs)

1945 Stop Out 0 Hospital 0

Stop Out went through (Hospital had 2 sent off)

1954 Stop Out 6 Hospital 1

1964 Stop Out 5 Western Suburbs 1

1983 Porirua United 2 Stop Out 1

2004 Stop Out 0 Western Suburbs 2

2006 Western Suburbs 2 Stop Out 1

2012 Stop Out 3 Western Suburbs 1

Best Performance

Stop Out – Won (1956)

Western Suburbs – Won x3 (1935 (as Hospital), 1971, 2006)

My Pick - Will be a close game but Stop Out have only won 1 of their last 18 games against Wests and don't think they will change that on Saturday

Wairarapa United (CL) v Miramar Rangers (CL) #WRPvMAR

Saturday 15th July, Masterton Memorial Turf, KO 5:30pm

Normal service resumed with Miramar getting an away game. Their 4th visit to Masterton in the Cup in the last 5 years.

Games involving Rapa this season have been averaging 6 goals, with Mar its 5 (so odds on a 0-0 draw?)

Previous Chatham Cup meetings

2008 Miramar Rangers 1 Wairarapa United 4

2010 Miramar Rangers 2 Wairarapa United 3

2013 Miramar Rangers 2 Wairarapa United 1

2015 Wairarapa United 3 Miramar Rangers 1

2016 Wairarapa United 2 Miramar Rangers 4

Best performance

Wairarapa United – Won (2011)

Miramar Rangers – Won x4 (1966,92,04,10)

My Pick - plenty of goals with Rapa getting more

and in the rest of the country

Cashmere Technical (MPL) v Caversham (FSP) #CATvCAV

Saturday 15th July, Garrick Memorial, KO 2pm

Caversham have only lost 1 game in the last 2 years and they beat Cashmere Tech (2-0) in last seasons South Island Championship

Previous Chatham Cup meetings

2012 Caversham 4 Cashmere Technical 2

Best Performance

Caversham - Semi Finals x5 (1970,71,2006,10,12)

Cashmere Technical – Won x 2 (2013,14)

My pick - Caversham

Queenstown Rovers (FSP) v Nelson Suburbs (MPL) #QTRvNEL

Saturday 15th July Queenstown Events Centre, KO 2pm

After a 4 year absence from the Chatham Cup due to not wanting the extra cost, Nelson Suburbs get an away game to Queenstown!

First time these clubs have ever met

Best Performance

Queenstown Rovers – Round 5 - 2016 (and this season)

Nelson Suburbs – Semi Final 2008

My Pick : Nelson Suburbs (then they'll get an Auckland team away)

Onehunga Sports (NPL) v Melville United (NL1) #OSPvMEL

Saturday 15th July, Waikaraka Park, KO 2pm

Wellington Phoenix's Auckland team, Onehunga Sports are top of the Northern League, Melville are 2nd in Northern Div 1

Previous Chatham Cup meetings

1994 Melville 4 Onehunga Sports 2

2014 Melville United 2 Onehunga Sports 1

Best performance

Onehunga Sports – SF (2014)

Melville United – RUP (2003)

My Pick - another close one but I think Onehunga Sports will prove too strong in the end

Western Springs (NL1) v Bay Olympic (NLP) #WSPvBAY

Saturday 15th July, Seddon Fields, KO 2pm

Another div 1 v premier clash

Previous Chatham Cup Meetings

2003 Western Springs 2 Bay Olympic 1

2005 Western Springs 0 Bay Olympic 3

2014 Western Springs 1 Bay Olympic 2

Best Performance

Western Springs – R5 (2003)

Bay Olympic – RUP (2010)

My Pick - Western Springs for the cupset

Three Kings United (NLP) v Birkenhead United (NLP) #TKUvBIR

Saturday 15th July, Keith Hay Park, KO 2pm

The only all Northern Premier League clash, first time these clubs have met in the Chatham Cup, in the league its the current cup holders, Birkenhead United, who have the have the edge winning 8 of their 12 encounters

Previous Chatham Cup meetings

None

Best performance

Three Kings United – RUP (2009)

Birkenhead United – WON (2016)

My pick - Birkenhead United

Central United (NPL) v North Shore United (NL1) #CENvNSU

Sunday 16th July, Kiwitea Street, KO 2pm

Two Chatham Cup giants, both clubs have won the cup 6 times apiece.

Although it is very much a case of the old and new guard, North Shore's last triumph coming in 1986. Kevin Fallon was reminiscing in his blog about when he was in charge there and commented  "These days Shore are a club in decline. The grandstands are relics of a bygone day when people paid to support the team. Very little if anything has changed. It's as if time has stood still and North Shore United is in a 1980's time warp"

In the 1980's Central United were in the bottom Northern league division (4 north) and just starting to make their climb up the leagues, they won their first Chatham Cup in 1997. It's the first time in 10 years the clubs have met in a competitive fixture

Previous Chatham Cup meetings

1991 Central United (NL1) 1 North Shore United (NL) 5

2007 Central United (NLP) 3 North Shore United (NLP) 1

Best performance

Central United – Won x6 (1997,98,2000,05,07,12)

North Shore United – Won x6 (1952,60,63,67,79,86)
