Unless the sending off reg has changed in the last few years, a player is suspended for the next match (not in the league) the team for which he got the sending off plays.

I think one will find the two Olympic players who were sent off in the CC, have already served their holiday which was in the next match that the Olympic CL team played, I think it was against Lower Hutt in the CL

Classic cup tie at a wet and windy Waikaraka Park. Onehunga up 2-0 after 30 or so minutes when Lovemore went off injured (hammy ?) after terrorising Olympics wjde defenders. Olympic got back to 2-2 at half time ; fell behind 3-2 and then equalised from the penalty spot in the last minute. Olympic went ahead 4-3 in the first half of extra time  then Sports scored twice in the last 15 minutes. Despite conditions a reasonably high quality game - 6 of 9 goals scored with the wind. Olympic perhaps a little unlucky although if they had won would have thought the same about sports. Best 2 players on the pitch were 2 guys who for some reason no longer play national League - ,Milne and Villa.

what was the story behind the disallowed goal that ended with Mata & Villa being booked? Olympic were raging about it on FB

I was a long way away from that incident but what appeared to happen was that an Olympic striker and the sports goalkeeper collided and the sports gk was lying on the ground with the ball . No whistle appeared to have been blown and the gk realesed the ball which the Olympic striker put in the net. I thought at the time that there was a good case for the goal to stand and could sympathise with the Olympic protests .Like I said I was about  70 yards away.. Thought the ref had a good game in difficult conditions , although thought he should have booked the sports gk for his gamesmanship over the Olympic penalty - he has no right to hold onto the ball and place it on the spot.

with the video footage, the order of events was

- contact between keeper and striker

- keeper goes down flopping theatrically like a fish out of water

- keeper places ball on ground away from his body

- ref blows whistle

- striker kicks unattended ball into goal

Keeper was fortunate, shouldn't be letting go of the ball like that whilst it is still live.

Bit embarrassing for the Central League when one of their best teams gets taken to penalties by a 3rd tier Northern League side. Has the gap in quality between the two leagues ever been larger?

Three for me, and two for them.

What a dumb comment. It's a cup competition.

Albany, of course, beat Northern Premier League side Eastern Suburbs in the last round. 5th placed Central League side, Wellington Olympic, drew with 3rd placed Norther Premier League side, Onehunga. And Northern League First Division side, Bay Olympic, beat three (3) Norther Premier League sides so far this campaign.

Let's not turn this into a Auckland vs Wellington thing because of 1 person's stupid comment though.

who's doing that?

2nd best is just responding Buffon II's poor attempt at a fishing trip

anyway the only Wellington team left the semi finals of a national cup competition is Wellington United in the Kate Sheppard Cup

How did you 3rd tier team get so far in the competition, has quality of northern football fallen Napier did win.

Because the depth in Northern League football is such that second and third tier clubs often make deep cup runs.

When was the last time a Cap 1 team made the Quarters?

Three for me, and two for them.

Buffy isn't happy unless he has a pointless rivalry to bolster. It's best to let him go until you get swamped with complaints about his posts.

Also: Newsflash. Region of .3m not as strong as region of 1.5 million at a sport. #Shocked

Any chance of a provincial venue if no Auckland side makes it?

I remember being in the 3,000-odd crowd at Memorial Park, Palmy, for the 2011 final between Napier City Rovers and Waiarapa United. Was a fantastic occasion. If an NCR v Melville final would they do something similar again and meet in the middle somewhere?

Taupo perhaps (Owen Delaney Park) or Rotorua (International Stadium)?

Here is highlights of Napier only just managing to beat a 3rd tier team from Auckland.

depends got to remember their is the Kate Sheppard Cup on the same day at same venue so need to take those teams into account

you have

Napier v Onehunga Sports

Bay Olympic v Melville

Wellington United v Coastal Spirit

Wanderers v Eastern Suburbs

So you could end up with 2 Hamilton teams in the finals, but you could also end up with 3 Auckland teams in the finals

I reckon the only move they'd consider would be if you got 2 Hamilton sides in the finals

Doubt they'd use Rotorua as when WaiBop took NL gams there they got very poor crowds
