8-5.  I saw it, as my team was the earlier game on Wakefield, so stayed to watch our future opponents.  Strange game, as the score indicated.  Naenae scored the first, but Petone, who were the better footballing team, deservedly went 2-1 up, then Naenae nicked one to be all sqaure at half time.  Then Petone stolled out to 4-2, then Naenae nicked another, then Petone strolled out to 8-3 before Naenae grabbed another two.  After they went 2-1 up Petone looked comfortable, but Naenae just kept getting goals from nothing.

I'd come and watch and say hi but I'll be with the Naenae 12th grade side for a 10:00 game somewhere else (don't know where yet).

Newlands 2.  The Rugby pitch next to the football pitch.  It has posts that are football goals underneath and Rugby goals on top.  The lower pitch at Alex Moore is the same.

There were a number of requests today asking if the games on Wakefield were going to be cancelled. Capital Football understands the extreme weather that is happening at the moment. And the issues around playing in the freezing cold. However, the grounds because they are artificals are open.

4/6 of the Womens games last night were played in the snow, including a team from Wainuiomata!

No teams were being forced to play. If a team wanted to default, they were able to. If the teams came to an agreement not to play, that was fine.

The point that was made to the teams, is that if the games didn't go ahead, it was unlikely that the games would be rescheduled. There are already 13 catch up games from previous weekends. There simply isn't enough weeks left to try and fit these in

"Treacherous icy roads have led to NZ Bus cancelling all its bus services in the Wellington region from 7pm tonight, This includes all Go Wellington and Valley Flier services".

The hardy Tawa Grizzlies and North Wellington Vindaloos fronted up tonight in the worst conditions I have ever, ever played in.  Just before kick-off lighting flashed and thunder roared around the ground and the type of hail that leaves nail marks on your legs was lashed in on the bitterest southerly Mother Nature could muster. The game was played amidst snow flurries and the continuation of a southerly gale. The Met Service estimated the temperature at minus 5 when they factored in wind chill.

Never have I seen so much effort put into covering exposed skin.  For the first time ever I wore a beanie in a game, which did however tend to nullify the only half decent part of my game.

However, I must say the Wakefield Park facility is awesome.  To even have the capability of playing football during what's being called a "one-in-a-lifetime storm" is quite something.  The all-weather surface is indeed an ALL weather surface.

Unfortunately the lights went out ten minutes into the second half, forcing the game to be called off early.  For the record we were 7-0 up at the time, so I presume that result will stand.

Full credit to everyone for fronting up ... I'd rather play football in any weather than not play at all, so I'm glad we made the effort.  Good to be home though with a blanket across my knees, as is the masters way.

Love it LF1. I think I'd like to play in these conditions just for the experience alone, yours sounds immense. Good effort from everyone who played, football at any cost.

Hearing that teams played tonight reminded me of this happening in a game I played in a few years ago. Sounds like the players were more prepared tonight though.

I think half of his problem is he's too lean.  Most of the guys in Masters have a layer or two of in-built insulation already....

Good question Messy.

Hard to say. Haven't had any indication from the councils yet.

Do they just say have no restrictions,  get everything played and grades finished
Then games are going to be played on some pretty waterlogged and muddy pitches.

If there are cancellations then next week grounds will be full to the max and may not be in much better state than this weekend.

I suppose it depends on if you are worried about actually getting home. Most of the Island Bay team probably didn't have to travel too far, but if the other team had players from the hilly suburbs or even Upper Hutt they may not be keen to take the risk getting to and from Wakefield.

In saying that, the other team should have made as much effort to contact the Island Bay team/Capital football

For the Junior teams, is the Grand Final day going to be on Sat Aug 27?  If so, will the teams that are not in one of the various finals play friendlies on that day?

That is the plan and for those juniors playing friendlies on grass pitches, weather permitting

No, no,no... don't you read the Knitting Circle posts about me.  I'm a traitor to NZ football for supporting the Phoenix.

In fact:
Crappy job with too much work to do by the end of the month NEQ buggering off to Dunners.

All CUP FINALS are still on (except for all other games within those devisions)

So does that mean other games are cancelled in the grade where cup finals are on? But the cup finals play?

I'm trying to work my game out.
CAPITAL 16/17 BLACK B:There is no cup game I can see and we aren't in the list of grades cancelled. So does that mean we are still on? Can't tell
I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.
