It's now saying we are postponed is this correct?

Looks like the whole round is postponed now. Anyone got any insight as to why?

Watched the first hour or so of Wests vs Tawa, Wests very slow to get off the mark, had a lot of good chances, but it took a debatable pen to make it 1-0 on about 30mins to the home side. Score quickly became 3-0 before Tawa pulled one back just on halftime. Referee subbed himself off due to injury. Not long after half time Tawa were awarded a pen which brought them back into the game making the score 3-2.

Score finished up 5-2, not really surprising from what i saw. Wests are looking very good, and dominated throughout pretty much (went a bit quiet towards half time though), hit the post a couple of times and forced the Tawa keeper into some good saves.

Villa lads stocked 2 pick up another 3 points against Olympic , final score 5-1, should have been more, the posts were hit multiple times but thats the way things go i guess

how big is the difference between cap 1 and cap 2, seems odd the IBU are bottom of cap 1 and top of cap 2, if they played each other on current form would the cap 2 side win?

stop out wellington united - pretty sloppy game, first half stop out should have scored 6 but only got the 1, second half united should have scored 6 but only got 1, pretty much last kick of the game stop out got a very debatable penalty, converted well by their striker, but their right back jumped and miss timed his headed, went over his head and hit his arm which hed had behind him to help him jump, arm was in area, but his body wasn't so very lucky for the SO boys. they defended well, different CB pairing this week with the usual English lad in their doing a consistent good defencive work, and another (number 17) looked like a better combination. anyway well done boys, final score 2-1

IBU Cap 1 had another win on the weekend North Wgtn (who before the game were 2nd and only on GD), so are now off the bottom of the table.

I dont think there is a huge difference between say the top few in Cap 2 and the bottom few in Cap 1, i'd say your lot would be able to compete in Cap 1

We beat Lower Hutt in the weekend, however, it took a last minute free kick to take the points.

Lower Hutt looks a decent side, quite physical as well.  Organised at the back, soaked up a lot of pressure.  I felt we dominated possession and territory but couldn't break them down that often

I actually reckon theres a big difference. From what Ive seen over the last few seasons there seems to be a big drop between the two.

Fair play, I cant comment on the last few seasons as I wasn't in Wellington, but I have played both Cap 1 and Cap 2 this year.

Interesting to see this on the IBU Facebook page in reference to their Cap 1 side.
"Island Bay United Association Football ClubTotal of 5 new players in starting lineup - 4 from the fourths and 1 down from firsts!"
Would indicate that the Cap 2 side aren't willing to send players up. Must be more to the story than we're getting here.

Typo. Should say 4 from the thirds.

Permalink Permalink

Villa lads a bit off their game 2day, first goal from naenae was questionable offside but was awarded, their second goal was a well built goal, they just wanted it a bit more than us, things got pretty heated on the pitch with both sides finishing with 10men but the main reason for this was the poorest reffing i have seen for a long time, if the game was kept under control it would have been alot smoother going but oh well, ya have those days every now and again, onwards and upwards for the game on the turf next week against IBU, vamos villa

Sounds legit.
That should go some way to explaining the loss to Olympic then?

Yeah a little bit (and now I think about it, it was only three players up). Also one of those days where the result would be unfathomable if you were watching most of the game. 50/50 red card about 25 in (according to players on both sides) and IBU still dominated. Olympic definitely keen just to draw (which is understandable given their league position).

Anyway, chances aplenty for IBU but just wouldn't go in, including a saved penalty and resulting rebound. Goal scored in stoppage time, casual keeper having clearance charged down directly into goal.

Hopefully lesson learned for big game next weekend.

Dare we ask who got the red? :)

I think Wests won 4-2 last night in the cold

Come on the Nae! Gutted I can't be there this year playing with the lads. Good win for them on the weekend and I'm sure Palmerston North Marist are going to love Naenae 1 on Monday in the cup!

Yep I played that game and it was woeful conditions, as it always is in a southerly on wakefield. Disappointing finish for United, fought hard to come back to 2-2 before a couple of school boy mistakes led to them scoring two in the last 5 minutes. That wests side have plenty of good young footballers though. Good side.

Fuck this stupid game

I watched the game and think thats bang on.  United did well to get back in the game twice, only to give it away at the end.
Horrible conditions I would of hated to be playing

Bit of  a keeper howler for the 3rd? I kind of took my eyes of the ball for a second and it was in. Was a close game, surprised to see United so far down the table

From where I was watching it looked pretty much straight up the middle, moved a bit in the wind and bounced just before but yes should have been saved.  The 4th was a pass from the right back (I think) straight to the Wests striker.  Keeper did well to save the initial shot but fell into the path of Moritz who tucked it away

Yeah but to be fair to the keeper that player should never have got the shot away. three players let him run, then turn and gave him all the time he wanted to shoot. The GK will be gutted but we talked about not letting that happen. The fourth goal was even softer after the heads dropped. But like I said we felt like we lost to a better team. If we keep playing that well we should have a better second half of the season.

Fuck this stupid game

Ask Troy about what happened when we went to play Palmy North Marist in 2005 for the third round of the cup. Me and Nick B pulled off the mother of all cockblocks on him. Was very lol.

I believe what he means is we've seen guys get Reds for it, and we've seen guys go unpunished.  It was a header leading with the elbow.

Anyway, ref made his call and we have to move on.

Dougas Villa tomorrow, big game can't wait

Very diplomatic of you. Clearly it wasn't just the elbow that lead to the five week ban though...

watched stop out v Olympic, very one sided game, Olympic maybe had 2 shots on goal, both from 30 odd yards out, SO had close to 30, some poor finishing though and some fian scrappy defending only meant they scored the 1. SO left back had a good game up and down his touchline, and whatever the Olympic forwards threw at the 2 young CB, they didn't budge. M.O.M for me was between the captain and the small Asian guy in the midfield, absolutely controlled the game from the start and worked hard on D if needed as well

villa got back to winning ways against stop out yesterday with a hard fought 3-2 win, pretty stoked with the 3 points coming off 2 losses was good to bounce back, naenae next week which will be another tough battle,i wonder if oly will upset island bay again this week aye DRG lol

yeah I cant see that happening again mate, good win against naenae, how was the game?

Permalink Permalink

Cheers. It was a tough game. The cricket wicket was just mud and was hard to play anywhere near it.

Naenae were up for the game and came at us early on. Went down 1-0. We settled in got one back through a penalty. Then got another  2 in the space of 10 mins. Halftime 3-1.

Naenae again came out strong and battled well. They got one back with about 20 to go. We caught them on the counter with about 10 to go which made it 4-2.

Probably wasn't the nicest game to watch from the sideline but it was a pretty evenly matched battle

Yea just saw that.  Wonder if Olympic dropped a few guys from their Cap Prem team as they dont have a game this weekend.  Great result for us anyway.

Always going to happen in this league,  Midweek games are making it easier as well with players getting dropped rather than training.

Would be a different table if the regular players were only played.

There have only been 2 rounds where mid-week games have been played, with a total of 5 games.
First time Stop Out beat Lower hutt, and Wests beat Wgtn Utd (no huge shocks there)
Second time (this week) Wgtn Utd and Tawa drew, Upper Hutt smashed Lower Hutt and Olympic upset Wests

So apart from those last 2 results (and maybe Lower Hutts first one against Stop Out) I dont think it has had too much of an impact on the table.

Lower Hutt may think differently as I imagine they went into both games thinking they could get 3 points from each.

In saying that we have seen some class players in this grade (Saturday games), when we played Wests they had Trent Watson, and when we played Upper Hutt they had Andy Le Prou

Couple of names straight off their Central League squad list took the field, Luciano Colucci and John Carras.
Not sure what the re-grading rules are but seems legit as long as they haven't played Central League the week before right?
