Apparently that guy de Gregorio went ok for you guys on Saturday. Any chance he might step up one day and play first team you reckon?

I dunno, the sitter he missed from 4 yards was almost as good as the guy hitting the crossbar from 2 yards :P

Well paul, now that we pretty much can guarentee a playoff with a win, im sure 2nds will take advantage of the drop 3 system, and probably take, Raf, Ryan, and Jamie down to run rampage on united.

Just hope I dont eat my words. Olympic should win 4-1, 3-0, somwhere in that reigon.

And yes paul, pwnd.

Lasted the full 90, but the last 20 I think he was more angry at the mud then anything else though. Not up to his usual Central league expectations :P

Yeah. Raf did not play up to his standards. Sure pitch was to blame, but chunk of his game was lacking on the day.

remember it will depend on who moves up in prems because chances are only one team will move up from prems what with the whole bloody taranaki/bottom of central league/top of prems playoff so if only one team ends up going up to central does that mean there will still be a play-off of 2nd to bottom  prems team vs olympic??

I feel sorry for your 2nd team having to travel up to Napier and getting spanked 6-1. So much for the integrity of the Central League.

In case anyone is wondering what the hell I am referering to here, the context of this post has been lost with the mod's decision to delete some derogatory posts by others and fair enough too. Just thought I should clear that up in case people care.

Good one.

Only in the last two weeks did 2nds call on the firsts to help them out.

Dont try and take anything away from them, they worked hard during the year, put in the yards, and deserve the playoff spot.

I would agree that they have to have done well all year to be in their position, and quite likely could have taken the playoff spot anyway, but why do they then feel the need to have the first's help them out at the end? If their side is good enough, leave it as is.

You have to feel a little sorry for the players who have played 16 matches only to lose their spot for the final important matches.

Apparently Stokes Valley have an appeal lodged with Cap Football in regard to the game played last week - I think Olympic beat SV 3-0. That is the game that Raf played - despite having been red carded the week b4 for the first team (remember the story in the Dom re the question of mistaken identity). I think they may also be claiming Olympic dropped too many players down for that game.
Anyway, if that challenge is successful, it would bring Olympic back to 34 points and tied with North Wellington (both teams have finished their 18 games). THis would make goal difference massively important. Currently Olympic have a GD three better than NW (it would be much better if not for Wharfies 11-0 capitulation to NW a fortnight ago, so you might not be v popular with the Greeks Feverish). But what i dont know is, if SV's challenge is successful, how would that affect GD? ALso, if Olympic are still appealing Raf's red, then that also comes into play potentially.

Worse than the America's Cup.

I don't know anything about the appeals or that, but as far as the goal difference is concerned, IF the appeal was to win then I'd guess Olympic would lose the 3 goals they scored against SV and would then also concede 2 goals in the 2-0 loss that normally comes with a "default".
So their goal difference would end up 5 goals worse than it is now.

But that's a pretty huge IF

at a glance it seems pretty black and white though - if Raf was red carded one week, surely he cant play the next? therefore, goodbye olympic's 3 points, 5 goals and 2nd place.

Check you sourses. The protest was not even worth the piece of paper that was written on...
Everything was and still is above board.
Let's find something more amusing/entertaining to talk about...ie who will play against us for the play offs.

I have played for the 2nds all year, only missed one game. Although I have been Playing two games every weekend, there were still 5 2nd team players still playing for only our 2nds and 1 3rd team player against welly utd. I believe thats over half the team.

So as to why we feel we have to drop first team players...well its obvious - look at the teams who we could be playing in the promotion game Miramar or Lower Hutt City who also have been dropping players to stay up.

If we put out our 2nd team against SV and Wellington Utd we still should have easily won but we need to look to have a good side to face what will mostly likely be Miramars first team.

Also to the rumours about Raf he had certainly served his suspension he was sent off against petone and did not play the following week against Napier. And secondly we droped only the three players, we would not be that careless...

SV do you still remeber your 5v1 loss to us, no first team players then eh.

PS - BNU did the double over your 2nd team and SV thrashed us 5-1 in the first round - so not sure what your final comment proves

Ahh yes that 5-1 result, we played like complete bunnys that day.

Funny your argument is you need first teamers to be more competitive, yet when you do play them, you could only beat us 3-0. With our team considerably weakened. And yet your gelled second team whiped the floor with us.

Star team, over a team of stars any day...

I don't believe that Miramar will have their first team if they were to end up in the promotion/relegation match. They did not drop players during the season (seeing as their second team was finished before their first team had secured CL), and I don't believe that they can drop players for the Promotion/Relegation match.

And what if instead you meet Marist, which is still a possibility. Do you not feel that having a fair number of your Central Leaguers playing gives you an unfair advantage. They will not be dropping players. And I'm guessing that if you do win promotion, players like Raf will not be playing in Premier League next year?

And while I have already said your team would quite likely have finished 2nd with your regular side, it is also true that Nth Wgtn could not drop players from a higher division to ensure they did not slip up at the end.... and teams have managed to turn around big deficits in rematches (we drew 3-3 in a match we should have won after losing 5-0 to the same team earlier in the year).

It's possible, I don't know the rules exactly, I just thought there were restrictions on the regrading of players into the Promo/Relegation match

It'd be pretty sad to see Mar first team vs Olympic first team to decide who plays in PL and Div 1 next year

Yes they have.... and yes they can... and yes as long as the regulations allow you to do so the Clubs will be silly not do take advantage..
OH yes just for the record: SV Protest has been turned down...the reason behind it...Olympic have followed the rules

I agree. Bubbles are fair enough to play within the laws to achieve promotion. Mar can still (and have started) dropping players just in case.
Sounds like SV were clutching at straws there.

Mar can still drop first team players down to their lower level teams. I think they will still be lucky to get a play-off though
