So who do you think is going to make the push to Premiers this year? How good are Brooklyn Northern going to be? I think they will be surprised at the level of competition they come across in this grade..
I feel Stokes Valley will do alright for their first season up in Capital One and maybe cause a few upsets, Wainuiomata also ended there season well at the end of last year under new coaching and will be looking to rebuild on that again this year.
To be honest I'm bloody glad Miramar have finally been promoted, got a bit ridiculous at the end of the year, dropping top players down, guess they had the players to do it but still a bit frustrating to be on the end of it.
Olympic will probably start well but as the same as last year will self-destruct upon themselves and lose games they really should win. I think Petone could be interesting as now becoming the clubs second team will benefit from the good players that didn't quite make the first team cut. Don't really know too much more about the town teams, North Wellington, Karori, Uni and Wgtn United always seem to be a bit up and down and end up middle table
And of course, because I'm from Naenae I'm going to say we're a huge dark horse this year and look for us in the top of that table!!
Good luck with the season everyone

Our 2nds have heaps of numbers, and with Barrie coaching they will be organised to the t. I've no idea how good they will be, but any visitors to Newtown will get a warm welcome and to play on the legendary pitch which is in great nik considering the use it gets. Our home games are at 12.30 games so hang around for a beer after.

Is Paul Bleyenga still at the club?

seen/played this team couple of times this year - defense = rubbish - knock long balls.

How's Barrry going at remembering player names?

I'll answer all 3 of these in one go
Yes Bangers is still around
Tawa try saying something positive in one of your posts for a change, it doesn't hurt
Barrie still struggles with names, and I doubt you are old enough for him to remember yours Feverish. Still a good coach though.

Expect an improved Wgtn Utd side from thier HP performances. It was spent sifting through the new talent. I can put in a good word for you LF1 if your looking for a return?

i can tell you Barrie did a magnificent job when it came to name recall at BNU last year. better than me, thats for sure. and given the ethnic mix of the bnu extended squad that was no mean feat

Not sure how Uni will go. They lost their coach and a few players to Karori and there's always the perennial struggle to keep students from one year to the next (and keep them sober/minimally hungover on gameday).

Petone 2nds look like a decent side again this year. With the first team having a bigger squad for Central League hopefully the unused players will be dropped down. If everyone who's currently there stays then both Petone teams will be very competitive in their respective leagues.
Its no longer a problem.

Nice save.
Naenae have lost quite a few older heads from the first team so it will be a big question of how the usual English contingent go... oh, and MonkeyBoy.
If he gets an open goal chance let it go. He'll miss. He's like DKP22 in front of goal.

I've seen that BNU side, and I'd have them in the boat races. They'd kill your seconds.

we've actually only lost about one person news, gained a few more locals from around and I'm not going to say anything on what the english contingent will be because well that would just be giving it away!!!
hey, give me a break also, I'm a wingback, If I get close enough to the goal I get confused where I am and start panicking hahahaha

naenae will be mid table at best, for a club who spends all their money on a crap coach and 2 star english players every year, they never perform. maybe they shoud spend their $$ on some young local players and try and build a team for the future. why would you spend 10's of thousands on this exercise to win capital 1???puzzles me. you dont even field a u19 team, try and develop your own first i reckon.
stokes valley are good team and have recruited well some ex lower hutt players! waterside, brooklyn and well utd to challenge them, dark horses wainui who have some good players returning from other clubs, naeanae and petone.

BNU win a boat race? You're having a laugh...Word to the wise - that new keeper doesn't even drink.
Enjoy capital 1, again, in 2009. lol.
Fuck this stupid game

lol well you obviously seem to know alot about us, so I'll just let you have your little ridiculous opinion to yourself, naenae hasn't had an under 19 team in years because quite simply there isn't enough players in that age bracket at the club to justify having one and organising all the necessary things to have one also, funding etc, we're not exactly going to go send a team of 16year olds to the under19 tournament. we don't spend money on english players, yes we pay for flights when they come, but they come here and work and play. our coach has done some good things over the years, a final 16 placing in chatham cup not bad for a capital 1 side knocking out premier teams on the way, albeit a couple of years ago. have to remember also we don't have the depth that other clubs do, thats why its always going to be difficult for the smaller clubs like us, stokes valley and wainuiomata and these clubs do work hard to keep a consistent squad through-out the year.
I reckon good luck to all involved this year

Interesting set of results today...
Stokes Valley (who many were backing pre-season) losing 4-2 at home to Wainui
Similarly, Varisty (who were supposed to be struggling) beat the Greeks 4-3
Naenae put 7 past Petone
North Wellington 1-0 over United
BNU v Wharfies called off after an hour at 1-1 because off waterlogged pitch at Karori
Can anyone flesh out these results a bit?

Interesting set of results today...
in a game that got increasingly absurd as $5million Karori Park became increasinly flooded, only a couple of moments of real quality - one classy finish from some tall, lanky, balding BNU midfielder stands out - shame it will never count

It was only 1-0 at the half at Petone, but it could easily have been 5-0 to Naenae.
I left at that point for my match in Wainui so glad to see they finished some of the chances.

who was doing the damage for naenae?

A mixture of the Sudanese and the new UK import lads from what I caught.
Petone were pretty poor though. Scottish Centre Back was pretty good (despite his dodgy employer).

hey guys, yeah, brilliant start to the season for us couldn't have really asked for anything better, plenty of goals and a clean sheet, as a defender that was the most important part for me.. goals were 3 to our uk lad, 1 free kick and 1 PK to our captain, beautiful left footer from our sudanese midfielder, and our welsh local dude finished off from a great cross to make it seven.
to be fair on petone, I thought there keeper was pretty poor and a couple of those were pretty 50/50 allthough we did have alot of other chances we should have finished as well.
bring on next week! :)
