Hrmmm, we cruised in with a 7-1 against Stokes Valley.... And there are another wad of games with very big scorlines.

I heard whisper of a grade split down the road somewhere (we're clearly not going to get anywhere close to two rounds with 14 teams).

What are your guys thoughts on the matter? My concern is that it would have to be a 6-8 ot 7-7 split (prolly 6-8 yeah? not sure which way though) which means bys or a small pool.

I think the occassional high scoring game is ok, but when the likes of Tawa are scoring an average of 9 goals per game something is a bit off. It's more fun for everyone when the games are competitive.

edit: Or is it just shoddy defense all round?

We had a minor victory in keeping Tawa under 10 goals on the weekend.  And seeing as they had beaten Olympic 6-1, and then Olympic then beat us 7-2, we probably won on handicap  :)

More seriously, it's not much fun and doesn't really help either team to play these games.  Teams in Grade 16 should NOT be turning up with cones to do pre-match drills.

When the bottom grade has been chopped up in the last few seasons, it has been more enjoyable so hopefull after a few more rounds, something similar can take place. We have enough teams.

A 6/8 or 7/7 would be fine.

Oh god, well hopefully when we draw them we can not only put up a good fight but slide in a good amount of mockery with hints as to where they can stick their pretty orange cones.

We have the feisty Greeks this week so looking forward to a hard one :D

We have the much anticpated "bottom of the bottom" clash with North Wellington this weekend.

One of our teams should be able to claim the outright lowest spot in the Senior Mens Division (someone has too).

Bring back Mana!  :)

Hey we'll give you a good battle for that spot!

We were looking a lot better last weekend against SV so the game against the slayers tomorrow will be interesting, be a good even match up i hope

Yeh no kidding, had a great touch and superbly finished one of their 2 goals in a 0-2 loss for us. Pity he is a little greek jack-ass who loves to throw the shoulder but cries the second anyone even looks like tackling him in classic cap 16 style (ankles and balls kinda blurr together in the heat of the moment right?). He wanted a go when I laughed at him openly for being a little girl

In fact Greek culture is something I just can't get my head around, it's like they yell for the sake of yelling, the poor ref (who was from their team - and did a pretty good n honest job) took a bullocking all match, 99% coming from their own players. Ah well must be a cultural thing.

Do we know what grade Tawa came from? Or should be in?

They are a new team, but to me would give our 2nds a hurry-up in Cap. 5.

Don't get me wrong, great bunch of lads and a pleasure to play against but WAYYY to good for us.

I'm from Tawa but not Tawa AC United. Previously they used to be called Tawa Kings but they got beaten by quite a few goals every week so I think most of those lads stopped playing. This new team got together and wanted to play and (dont quote me on this) just replaced the team and hence knew name so maybe next year will go up a few grades. I know it must suck for the other teams getting pumped each week at the moment by them

Meh, you get that in the lowest grade and as long as they aren't cocks about it and running off celebrating every goal like they just won the Champions League and are happy to have a laugh on and off the field I don't think anyone minds too much.  As I said, they were a pleasure to watch run around us.

Must also add that the lad who reffed on Saturday did a great job, there was unlikely to be much in the way of flashpoints but he was even handed and civil which makes a HUGE difference.

Tawa Kings played in Cap 12 last year and averaged about 11 goals against a game. Didn't last the whole season though.

The tawa team is new.. but since capital football said no clubs could enter any new teams - All we did was replace the kingz with this team - They certainly should be playing at a higher level and we even tried poaching a couple of their players to play up higher but no luck.. hopefulyl they dont get bored by winning by huge margins each week... :-)

one of them is already considering the golden boot for the club.. not really very fair!!

This has been a feature of the division at the bottom for several seasons.  The Sealads started there for example and quickly got pushed up the league (we at Mana actually gave them a good game which we enjoyed; 7-4 as I remember).  As an earlier post said so long as the "good" teams dont act in an unsporting way then usually people dont mind.  Most teams and players are just glad to have a game and play with good spirit.  My old friends the Slayers are the example to follow!

Rather than split the division now it is a good idea to play one full round then divide into mini leagues of about four teams for an end of season round robin.

The Porirua City Mana side has also been replaced by a new team so we cant complain!

It was a good game between the Slayers and the Nighthawks yesterday.

I am puzzled about one thing and was wondering if someone could help me and that is on the subject of throw-ins or more specifically, foul throws.

There were a number called in our game yesterday and most games will usually have someone pulled up for one.  Including games referreed by our team.

I downloaded the 'laws of the game 2008/09' from the fifa website and it simply states that

At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower:
 faces the field of play
has part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground
outside the touch line
holds the ball with both hands
delivers the ball from behind and over his head
delivers the ball from the point where it left the field of play

To my novice eye, each throw in yesterday conformed to these rules as most throw-ins in previous matches.  What am I missing?

Did the laws used to be stricter?

Do we play under an ammended set in Wellington?

Are we being to strict (in Grade 16 anyway).

I refed you guys in the first half, and don't think I'd called any foul throws, although I'd say there was a fair few that would have been called in higher grades.

Usually it was an issue of technique - either the ball being released too late (i.e. in front of the thrower's head rather than over it), or favouring one arm over the other which again results in late release.

I think in social grades, there's no need to be overly strict unless the throw's really, really bad. But I guess as long as consistent criteria is applied by refs, there shouldn't really be a problem.

I think they all were in the second half and perhaps your point about releasing in front instead of over is the key I am missing.

But to my (novice) eye, these and calls in previous games seem to be ok throws when compared to the points from my previous post.  I just wondered if there used to be more rules that were perhaps more strict and that is what older players remember and apply.

I thought the reffing in the first half was excellent.  :)

Fairly easy game to ref though, pretty clean and good natured. Credit to both sides for that.

I thought the reffing in the first half was rubbish, but mainly because it was EG and I can't bring myself to complement him.
