Marist 2-5 Douglas Villa

Within the first ten minutes Marist passed up a couple of golden opportunities (an open goal and a one-on-one). Trailing 3-0 at the break the game appeared dead and buried.

However, the Kilbirnie Park outfit rallied to reduce the deficit to 4-2 but further shambolic defending meant that the Masterton side would be heading back over the Rimutakas with all three points.

I was shocked to see DV have the same colours as the Wharf!

Excellent! Hopefully will filter out to all teams.

Pics look great. Would have preferred to keep the black shorts but no complaints about the top.

nah black shorts is still standard. It just seemed like a white shorts kind of day. We (I) am phasing out all traces of red in kit - hopefully it will filter down to the juniors socks soon.

Kapiti 2-4 Marist

During a scrappy first half, played on perfect underfoot conditions, it was clear that both these sides were sitting at the wrong end of the table. The visitors, just about, deserved their slender one goal lead.

However, after the break the heavens opened and a five goal thriller followed. With the contest deadlocked at 2-2, and only five minutes to go, a share of the spoils looked on the cards. But, a dramatic late double has given Marist a confidence boost going into their Easter Monday clash against Petone.

By the way, it was great being able to enjoy a post-match bevy in a proper pint glass (as opposed to a handle) and I would highly recommend their award winning toasties!

This league certainly is tough to predict. It is lucky that the TAB does not offer odds as I would be skint!

Marist has four lads away over Easter but we have a huge squad so it should not make much difference. As I am one of the players missing, our chances of getting a result has probably increased!

Petone 1 - 1 Marist

Whether it was too many Easter eggs or a lack of key personnel (i.e. our two strikers) the match on Petone 2 failed to deliver enough consistent quality from either team to deliver an outright winner yesterday.

First half Petone probably shaded the encounter and played some nice triangles - their diminuitive No. 8 pulling most of the strings - although, it must be said they were aided by a general malais and lack of urgency/closing down from the boys in green. They took the lead rather from a routine corner which wasn't cleared leading to a goal line scramble and tap in on the line for the grateful attacker.

No changes at half time in terms of players but a general (and much needed) kick up the arse from the Marist manager resulted in a much more spirited second half from the boys. Chances were aplenty for both sides but Marist equalised after a well worked move: the Petone keeper spilled a precise cross from Raebs on the right (following good work by Colm) and Shannon was in acres of space to prod home on the line and open his account for the season.

It was a tense finish as both teams looked to push for an outright winner. I missed an absolute sitter towards the end and a few other chances from both sides went close but overall a point a piece was a fair result - the lack of quality (and composure) in the final third proving to be the key factor in the dropping of another two points for Marist.

Next up for us is a home game against the fairly unknown Paekakariki in a game in which three points are vital if we are to push up the league and get straight back into Capital 2 next season.

Also, a quick mention for the the wee guy from Karori who sustained a nasty head injury on Saturday. Everyone at Marist wishes him all the best for a speedy recovery.

A fair commentary on the P3 vs Marist game but using big words like "diminutive" will mean nothing to the youngsters in the team and may only fire them up for the return match. Must have been confusing for the ref though with most of the abuse on the field from both teams directed at each other rather than the opposition.
If Armanis can only get a point from the bottom team then we'll be in with a chance next weekend.

diminutive" is neither  complimentary or degrading so I suggest the youngsters go back to school and learn what it means if that that word is going to fire them up. But then again most of them probably went to Hutt Valley High so they would've all been expelled in the 3rd form no doubt.

It is no big deal. Have you ever tried to fire up a bunch of teenagers?  I'll try anything and "diminutive" sounds like a good start! It actually means small but I'm not telling them that.
