Yeah - I am looking forward to it - it should be great.

We have a couple of lads away, but nothing too major - so may the best team win!

Good Victory for us 3-0 over Miramar yesterday - good win for IB Massey as well. I think it pretty much rules Miramar out of winning the league

our second team beat hutt 5-0 yesterday. some of their players got rather aggressive in the first half, but seemed to calm down in the second half. nasty fellow in midfield ( paddy i think? ) threw in some very bad tackles and trompled on a guy when he was on the ground : good win though, I don't think Hutt had the fitness to last the game out..

Monkey - have you lot this weekend. Looking forward to it - hope you won't be relying on your Sudanese boys to create all your chances again this time

According to Capital Soccer Website, Scarfies play Cavs this weekend. Surely this is the match of the round, and IF scarfies win, could determine the league. . .

Look at that goal difference - admittedly we leak a few goals but that's because we are so impressive going forward...

The scarfies will be boosted with the return of Phil Bak, but we are short a few young playmakers. Hopefully the experience will shine through, particularly the Grey Wolf and Browny. Is Naenae Park still the classically crap surface it always is? Could be the ultimate leveller.

You on 1 or 2 ?

I was at the club last night but never looked at the pitches, but generally 2 is in better condition than 1, although it does have a drain with a plastic lid down the far side...

We're on two. Hopefully the forecast rain stays away. Allow a game of decent attacking football, rather than the defensive sludge we battled through last week
Permalink Permalink

yeah, two is always better than one generally, doesn't help one has a big clay cricket pitch in the middle of the field though!

We played Miramar on Benburn last week and had a concrete cricket wicket with astroturf on the top of it in the middle of the pitch!

It was probably the most consistent part of the whole pitch.

ben burn is shiiite

looks dodgy for me tomorrow, have fcuked my shoulder at work, feels alot like a pinched nerve, doesn't feel like muscle damage to me, so off to the physio soon and see how it goes

will be pissed off because i missed the last possible game as i was away on holiday lol

A somewhat scratchy 3-1 win for a Scarfies side with one eye on next weeks winner-takes-all match with Marist. A few touchy second half moments but otherwise a good game with Naenae perhaps deserving more for their efforts.

Big week for the Scarfies captain who will be in a race to get fit for next weekend after a painful knock in the first half.

Thoughts monkey boy?

Yep, was a good fought game, both teams played some nice football and if we had managed to put our chances away in the first half could of been a different ball game, was a bit gutted at some of the sitters our sudanese boy missed lol. Adding to my misery I was chucked in at centre midfield which is something a bit different to me, I don't really mind playing anywhere to be honest, but CM is one I always hate lol and just to add to my misery, my shoulder still hurts like f**k haha.

Well done Scarfies :D

Marist Town is a changed oufit. Hardly recognised any of their players from last time we played them. Got a couple of solid midfelders with pace and control.

We let in a howler first up when our goalkeeper slipped over . . .
IBM players didn't seem like they were up for it for first 45, and we went into the break 2-0 down. CAptain subbed me on for second half (he he) and we did score one off a penalty, and pressed hard in the last 20 but couldn't get anymore, despite many chances.

Well done to town .. . .  IBM oughta be ashamed of themselves. . . but credit to Marist, who will pick up more points before the season finishes if they continue to field that side.

Hate to break it to you phil, but the team is largely the same as it has been the whole way through... they had a large squad, but the boys have started to settle of late, which is bringing the results their way... they are playing better as they settle, but I think the other thing driving them is that they've also got a real hunger to get out of the relegation zone!

Hmmm, still plenty of new faces in that squad from last time we played. . . . .

I would've got in my car and left after the first one hit the back of the net......

I agree it does look like a different team.  But all credit goes to you guys.  You really played some great football in the first half.  Well done

Yeah, but the sad thing is, even if it was changed from the last time we played you (can't really remember) - it's still the same team which lost to IBU 6-4 the week before.

Agreed we were lucky with the first goal, way overhit cross, and unlucky for your keeper.

We were probably also a bit lucky you guys couldn't put the chances away int he second half, after dominating for long periods - but credit to our boys for the defence and willingness to put a tackle in, unlike the week previous. (and other weeks through the comp)

I think that ground held up really well, not sure about that HHH game after though.

It sounds like some IBM excuses to me for a sub standard performance on the field.  I just think IBM thought all they needed to do was turn up to win. As all the teams know you cant do that in this comp, all credit to Marist town! .

Also congrats to the Hutt Teachers for a cracker of a game on saturday, except for some interesting ref calls during the game it was a classic hard fought victory for the Rangers.

I saw Neil from IBM on the bus this morning and he indicated that the whole Marist Town team had been swapped with new players, most likely from a higher grade.

Have you seen the position of the Marist 2nd team in their league?? Would they really be dropping players when they are also in relegation trouble? (and the team in div 4 is a closed shop team, and they are finding it difficult to field 11 at the moment)

I don't really remember the game v IBM last time, I don't even remember seeing Phil. We may have had guys away back then, as we have a few students from out of town. Of the players from Saturday, I think 2 guys have jouned us during the season. We have changed our goalkeeper out (One keeper quit, 1 went back home to Ireland) with a guy who was playing midfield / striker.
Too much complacency from the IBM team? Admittedly, you had enough chances to take the game, but just couldn't quite get the ball to sit / roll in (very close calls a lot of the time)

players from IBM / IBU:  we have had that ref for 2 weeks in a row, and I still can't understand his decisions. What did you guys make of him?

Plus, why drop players from the Cavs team to Town when Cavs are in with a chance to take the league title...

Anyway, the personnel are neither here nor there... well done to Town for what seems to be the upset of the round!

I don't think I heard his whistle at all.  Personally I thought he was rather rubbish.  Seemed a little unsure of himself.

We had a ref the other week against Scarfies admit that a slide tackle got the ball not the player but gave a free kick for being, and a direct quote, the tackle "was a little rough", whats with that!!

I wonder if it was the same bloke?

Excuses? I think reasons more like.

BTW: I gave Marist due credit, and I hardly think this comment is making "excuses"

"Well done to town .. . .  IBM oughta be ashamed of themselves. . . but credit to Marist, who will pick up more points before the season finishes if they continue to field that side."

And we had a good chat before the game about not beign able to win just by turning up. this was in the forefront of all our minds at kick-off. Marist (to their credit) came out firing and pressed very hard, contesting for every ball with pace. It wasn't until the second 45 that we were able to establish some control on the game (which was noted by the Marist players who have commented on this thread).

Where's the logic in giving credit to Marist for earing a result, if you say that the reason they won is becasue IBM thought they could just turn up to win? ? ?

So far from crying (as your smilie suggests) I think our report on the game is fairly accruate. Marist performed well, and IBM started very poorely. Hence the 2-1 result.

That ref gave a penalty against us v IBU where our player was between the IB man & the ball, and the ball skidded a litte, when he tried to turn he slipped over, and the IBU player tripped over him. (this was 2 weeks ago in the stinky Macalister park) - some may say fair enough, but use some discretion.

You should at least have the ball near your feet to get a pen (or have had it under control at some stage near the box)
He gave technical foul throws, but played on for the obvious ones (from both teams)

I checked the result from the first round, and it was 3-1 to IBM - so a 2-1 turnaround isn't completely ridiculous.  I should have remembered this game, as I think it's the one where I scored my only goal for the season!

We have a hard 4 games coming up, and with Dreamers / Teachers playing each other this weekend, our Div 5 future kind of hangs on that game.

2 new faces to be exact. One in centre mid, one up front. Yes, we are now a totally different team, better every week. Essentially the same players though, i assure you. (Look out scarfies, more upsets are on the way!)

Thanks for the kind words phil. To be fair you should've atleast drawn level in the final 20mins, you were all over us.

P.S. I was the sod wo scored that ridiculous 1st goal. Sorry keeper, I know the feeling.

You guys played bloody well. There's no way you should be at the bottom of the table. play the last few games with that sort of desire and intensity and you'll do some serious damage.
