That ref gave a penalty against us v IBU where our player was between the IB man & the ball, and the ball skidded a litte, when he tried to turn he slipped over, and the IBU player tripped over him. (this was 2 weeks ago in the stinky Macalister park) - some may say fair enough, but use some discretion.

You should at least have the ball near your feet to get a pen (or have had it under control at some stage near the box)
He gave technical foul throws, but played on for the obvious ones (from both teams)

I checked the result from the first round, and it was 3-1 to IBM - so a 2-1 turnaround isn't completely ridiculous.  I should have remembered this game, as I think it's the one where I scored my only goal for the season!

We have a hard 4 games coming up, and with Dreamers / Teachers playing each other this weekend, our Div 5 future kind of hangs on that game.

I played in that game last week against you guys, and I reckon the defender definitly slipped, but he did slip into the attacker who was on goal. Tough one to call cos he did take a player out no matter if there was no intent at all. cos if it were by the sideline, it would have been called a foul too. But yeah guess given the circumstances an indeirect free kick mighta been best.

But I reckon you should all leave the refs alone ayeFULLSTOP

and that marist Town team like every other team in this grade are capable of beatin anyone on their day, and that sounds exactly like what happened on saturday. hope you IBM boys come snarlin this weekend, we got you in the local derby baby!

Fair enough, it's a hard job for which they don't get much recognition. I don't like refereeing games, with players abusing you all the time!
(especially the womens grades)

When we played Marist Town I thought the scoreline was overly flattering to us, and I was surprised that you were bottom to be honest. For me, the Dreamers are easily the worst team in the league.

I am gutted - I am away for the Cavs game this weekend which will pretty much win the league for us if we win as our goal difference should see us through if we draw on points - it should be a classic! They gave us a good spanking last time (we lost 5-1) so it'd be good to reverse the tie this time around...

Reffin' women's footie is hilarious. Some of the partners on the sideline get more abusive than the players!

As for Marist Town, Dingle's just as good as he was in school, albeit with more of gut than he used to have, so I'm not surprised they got a result on the weekend.

What you been doing with yourself these years Dingo? Papamoa FC not good enough for ya?

haha. Gut? Nah man, I just upgraded my fuel tank. Dingo, now theres a nickname I havnt heard in a while.

Cnut, 1stly well done on getting this forum up and going, only discovered it yesterday. 2ndly I agree the scoreline was flattering to you last time we met, but dont expect similar favours in a couple of weeks! Bring it on!!

Glad you like it Dingle - been a lot of fun thus far...

Looking forward to the return leg - tell that cheeky little cnut up front for you guys that I'm gonna chop him!

Played  Marist Town today, agree with Cnut, definitely don't deserve to be bottom table.

Went in at half time scores locked at one all, we were into the wind second half and Marist looked real dangerous on the break. Then we got a free kick on the right hand side of their 18, our striker lofted into the backpost and I outjumped my marker and nodded in on the far post, was bloody stoked!!! I've scored two goals this year, both of headers and I'm not that tall either haha.

Well done to Marist for a good game, very well battled, best of luck with the rest of the season

yup that was me haha, all of about two minutes, bit of a change from my usual defending position! I'm a bit unpredictable though so goals could come from anywhere with me!

Frankie and I were standing right behind you when that rubbish 3rd went in.  Frankie was demanding the ref disallow it for being rubbish (as I now see he said in the Cap 1 thread). Hard News2007-07-28 22:50:06

Blew's too right, the season's still open. Our game against the Cavaliers could have been a season-decider; instead our coach called the 1-1 result perfectly - "lads, it's like kissing your sister"!

Two wins should do it for us, although who knows what might happen against the newly resurgent Marist Town? Meanwhile, next Saturday's Miramar-Cavaliers match-up should leave only one challenger standing, unless IBM can stop the Teachers' late run of form.

Either way, here's hoping we don't run it down to the wire in true Scarfies style!

IBM back on track after beating our fellow club team IBU on Saturday 3-0. It's only mathenmatical (and unlikely) that we can top the league now, but hopfully we can still gain a spot or two over the remaining games. ..  .

IBM play teachers this sat. Should be a tough game . . .  I note that teachers have scored more than we have so far this season . . . .

Yes a draw for you two and a win for IBM means second for us.  Yeah!!!!

I'm sure the teachers have other ideas! If Marist town can do the job, then im sure Teachers are capable of another upset.

Quite true.  But I am hopeful that we will not make the same mistake twice.  Should be a really good game though.

The Teachers have got some imports returned from the States so anthing could happen in that game.

good win for us against island bay UNITED ( edited, I put wrong team ) today, our boys stuck it out and came away 4-1 winners, was looking dodgy at 2-1 though! well done phil, you guys got a good team, but with no offense at all, you guys really need to look at your fitness, you really dropped out in the last twenty. cheers. monkeyboy2007-08-05 11:55:27

The Scarfies had a 6-1 win against Marist Town - leaves us looking good for the title with 2 games to play.

I'll re-iterate again that Marist don't deserve to be bottom - the Dreamers are easily the worst team in this grade!

Yeah well done today.  You have some class players up front. One was called Eric I think.   Must say the game got a little messy at the end there.  But wasn't the score 5-3????

yea good win for ya! I think if we had a bit more luck with a few of those headers at the back post goin over and then rattling the post a couple a times, then it could have been a different story altogether. and someone said the defence was getting tired towards the end? disagree totally! I felt fine if not for a little cramp!

anyways, you guys are aight, but you really should be tryna push for a higher grade yeah? correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that your clubs 2nd team??
Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
yeah, we'd like to push for higher, but being the clubs 2nd team, your obviously there to support the 1st team and that includes the 1st team taking players out each week!!

They should have a virtual picking competition for this grade..

Cavs too strong in the end for the Rangers - although I had the first round taped at Marist, the cavs team seemed different, along with your strip. Wheres the Ginger no7?

The ginga no. 7 was playing in the second half in the no. 7 shirt - he screwed his knee a couple of weeks ago.

He changes his hair colour more often than Beckham.

How about the ref's performance in the Cavs v Rangers game?  That was a shocker - must've blown the game up close to a hundred times.....

Are you surprised a ref showed up to a Miramar v Cavs game. The two most abusive bunch of choppers in the grade. Miramar get a ref every week and its not because they play within the rules. Game of round 17 has to be Cavs v Marist, where a win to Marist could easily see them stay up - and the Dreamers are surely the worst team in the league.
Permalink Permalink

I see Marist would need 2 wins to stay up....they have the Cavs this week, does anyone know who they have the final week?
Permalink Permalink

Don't know what team you're from matey, but the worst team in the grade with respect to dirty play is the Scarfies.  I even asked a couple of the Cavs on saturday about the Scarfies and they said they backed this up.

The game on saturday was fine - a little bit of niggle, shirt pulling etc, but no real agro.

Unfortunately, we need more than 2 wins as it's 2 up, 2 down from the grade - so when we lost to Naenae last week it was all over.
I fwe at least get our 2 wins, then we can pull ourselves off the bottom spot. The last game for us will be Miramar. - You never know what happens in the off season though, we could stay up if we get off the bottom rung.

I guess we will not get to play the Cavs on Kilbirnie this week, after you firsts demolished the ground.

Hey, the seconds had a part in that too!!!

And demolished? I thought Kilbirnie looked like a carpet after we finished, just like it always does, good drainage, no interference from a cricket pitch or anything.....

ok i'll stop talking out of my ass, to be fair, i'm kinda happy that was our last home game
