I actually thought that your number 9 (Cole) ran the game for you. Tough tackler in the middle and was unlucky not to get a 40 yarder +. Well done to the magpies, but the title race is not over yet....

Yeah full credit to the Magpies - early lead and then showed more desire. A few heated exchanges but what can you expect in a close competition like this?

I think thats 7 games straight now isnt it Magpies?

6 in a row now. Yep, there were a few heated exchanges and tough tackles but that's to be expected in a game where both teams knew the top spot could be on the line. Still played in pretty good spirit overall I'd say, and hopefully we can do a Wharfies 1/2 at the end of the season...with us top of course...

haha, yeah not sure about the order of that 1/2 but definitely full credit to you guys. huge upsets in that round, didn't think either Marist or Uni would go down, but it makes things very interesting now, capital 7 turning out to be a very tight tussle, still looking forward to our first game against Stop Out tho. we were pretty gutted to lose on "Sealords Day", but you Magpies guys definitely deserved it more than us, but was a very good competition. Your right winger was superb. Final point, I think we could rename the number 1 ground "the sandpit". what a joke... at least we didn't have to play on the 3rd ground, could have snapped a few ankles out there running through the middle of that ground.

Looking forward to the remainder of the games. We , Marist , were by far the better team but just couldn't put the ball in the net !! The Petone keeper got his hand on a shot from six yards and soon after that they got their goal on the counter - gutted!!   Only 1 point between the top 3 and of course we have games coming up against the Karori teams which will hopefully go our way!!

If Feverish hears you complaining about the state of Karori Park you'll end up playing in Raroa for the rest of the season...though I have to commend the sandpit in the middle of number 1, had a superb game in defensive midfield for us...

it's a good little league this season, our down fall on saturday was the sun at melrose park  Utd Terrace got two freekicks with the sun right behind them and scored twice both in the top left corner, the keeper was blinded, good goals, but they never got anywhere near the 18 yard box all game which kind of sucks, but hey  that's football.

Haha Nothing to complain about - we only ended up being the feature match at KP when the opposing teams for both the top team and reserves refused to play on any of the 3 pitches, and their respective refs agreed with them!

Not gonna bag it though because they have always said it would take 3 or so years...

Ill say it...

What a horrible decision to cancel half the grades...it was a beautiful day on saturday...what do we pay these huge subs for?

I may be especially bitter as we were scheduled to play on Newtown park...would have been amazing

The reality is that most grounds in Wellington are of poor quality and overused. It's a problem that's plagued Wellington football for longer than I care to remember, and has no easy solution.

Newtown # 1 was soaked yesterday morning even before all this rain. That's why both games scheduled foy Saturday were cancelled or transferred, to protect it with 2 games coming up (ie today's Cup match and the U'23's on Wednesday). Its a pity, we try to get all our teams at least two games on it during the season but weather and 'more important games' always mucks things up. The cancelled match when its finally played might well go onto Newtown 1 though.

It is notable that many Wellington teams are now regularly switched north to Porirua grounds at Onepoto, Ngati Toa, Adventure etc. We have even had Waterside derbies up here in the last couple of weeks!

more crap weather forecasted this week...

hopefully we will all still get a game this weekend. 3 weeks cancellations in a row would be so depressing.

I'm leaving for Europe in 6 weeks, won't get to see out the season now. GUTTED! I'm now changing my goal for the season to beating Stop Out. I'm sure the Sealords will still win Cap 7 without my left wing class.

3-4 years back, I think we played once in about 6 weeks. Hope something like that doesn't happen again.

f**k me, and 8-0 to the 'lords?!  What happened there?

I'm a bit pissed all you teams ahead of us won as well - thought the conditions might've pulled in a few upsets.

As it was we (Uni Stallions) came back from 1-0 down to lowly Stewsmum.  Stoked to get the three points after a few tough losses and then all the cancellations.

Magpies continuing their great run, hopefully to come to an end next week when we take them on (at their home ground - Cobham?!)

I'm with u there energy24.7, if Uni beat Magpies this weekend I'd be pretty happy. the table would get very interesting as well. We have a massive game against Marist as well.

Massive capital 7 round this weekend:

Waterside Magpies vs Uni Stallions @ Cobham - 12.30
Waterside Sealords vs Marist Inter @ Cobham - 2.30

I'd say we'll be looking to arrive early and watch you guys play before us. Very important round, could be Sealords, Marist or Magpies on top of the table by the end of the round depending on which way results go.

On our game against Stop Out - bloody good to finally get a win against them after last season. was a pretty tough battle in the mud, we blew a few chances early on and took us about 30-35 mins to finally get on the board. 2-0 at half-time, and then the game blew out and we got a few easy ones to get to 8-0. stoked to finally get that monkey off our backs.

We were pretty disappointing in the first half against the WU Terrace, came in only at 1-1 despite the opposition only having 10 men.
Ran away with it in the second, I guess they got tired and we really picked up our game, could have scored probably 15 - and I'm not exaggerating - but some absolutely abject finishing kept the scoreline down to 5-1.
Looking forward to the Big Saturday, could be a massive day for us if everything goes our way.

I scored!!!

And we (Sealords) beat Marist 4-0. MUCH closer than that, as it took us about an hour to score (ahem, what a goal it was) and then two in a minute killed the game off.

With five games remaining it could be a two horse race???

How did Magpies go?

Oh and may I add, another clean sheet. That makes nearly six weeks without a breach of the Sealords defence.

Outstanding if I do say so.

6 weeks maybe, but only 2 games though...

We had a 3-1 win over University in some of the worst conditions I've ever played in. We were 2-0 up at halftime and fairly comfortable, but they got a goal early in the second and we started defending too deep inviting pressure...held out well though, and got the insurance goal late in the game to continue our winning streak.

yeah that ground was an absolute joke aye e g?!  Can't believe there was another game on it afterwards!!!
You guys did get a couple of good goals in that first half but I thought we dominated that second half and you were far from comfortable, especially once we pinged one back.  Then i thought we were fairly unlucky not to pinch another goal, and with it a point, but as it was we got caught on the hop, sending too many people forward and you fullas sealed it.
Disappointing for us but always tough in those conditions.  Looks like the league is gone for us now, which is gutting after we started so well...

We had to play on one of those pitches after another game! Was an absolute shocker by the time we played on it. Good victory in the end for us tho. We held on into the wind for the first half and managed to create and finish our chances in the second half.

I believe my original post said this exactly - comfortable in the first half, under pressure in the second.

Its our grades turn to be off and i dont see every team playing, not with the rain forecast...

i also have to say that im glad the cobham double header didnt happen last saturday, i was dreading the moral dilemna of whether to support a fellow Karori team, or support a team that would give us the chance to go back to first...

Odds on the rest of the season being called off?

Getting shorter and shorter.
Permalink Permalink

I got this email this morning in regards to fixtures.  The deadline for replies was this morning at 9am so I'm sure we'll get some information in the next couple of days.

I hope we play as many games as possible especially as we (Marist) have a chance to finish top two as we know we can beat the Magpies !!

To whom it may concern

MEN GRADES: 3 - 13
Submissions must be in no later that 9am Wednesday 30 July.

My personal opinion is to play double headers, but that can not be
guaranteed due to weather between now and the remainder of the season. If
double headers are played and the weather (and grounds)is crap then we may
lose more rounds.

I am of the option that the chances of completing grades 3 - 13 is now
becoming unlikely, therefore it is now time that clubs have input into how
the winners of the grades are found.

Some options are:
1  Play out as many matches as possible and take the positions for promotion
as of 1 Sept irrespective of how many matches are played and without trying
to play double headers, I would like to say that we should be able to get at
least 16 matches played.

2  Keep trying to play as many matches as possible by adding double headers
on Sunday, but are the grounds good enough to handle up to 6 matches per
weekend?.

3 Call it quits on double headers and redo the program to play rounds that
may help in confirming promotion, even this may not be as easy at it sounds.

If option 3 is the popular one then the draw for 9-10 August will be redone
and confirmed by Wednesday night.

If I do not get a clear view submitted, I will use option 3 as I feel with
the forecast for this weekend, it is the best.
