if option 3 happens do we part of our registrations fee back?

there's still a fair bit that can happen in our grade in terms of promotion/relegation and it could actually take all five remaining games too find a clear result. much like a few other leagues i'm picking.

i don't think(well i can't recall) that we've even played the dreamers yet,  so there's two chances for us to get 3 points

Personally I'd like to see double-headers every week, but don't think the grounds will hold up.
I would also be majorly pissed off if we don't get to play out the whole season. I know the weather's been rotten, but this is a farcical situation.

We've played all the teams in the grade at least once, so you must have played the Dreamers already on at least one occassion.

nah i'm pretty sure both times we were meant to play, we were rained off.

Weird. I'd have thought that all the teams will have played each other at least once since we have, but guess you know better who you've guys played against so far.el grapadura2008-07-30 17:07:49

From memory they had a guy who looked like C. Ronaldo a bit, boots an' all.
A decent side, probably quite handy in good conditions. Awesome keeper too, the bastard pulled off a Premiership-type save from my top of the box shot when we played them. Couldn't believe my eyes.

Has everyone seen this from Cap Football?:

"Senior Men - Capital 3-13 inclusive - we will first and foremost concentrate on completing one full round. In most divisions that will mean that another

1 or 2 games will need to be played. If more games can be played they will be. If at the conclusion of the season a league is incomplete (which is likely) winners and promotion/relegation spots will be determined as follows. If the final table shows teams in unassailable key positions (top and bottom so to speak) - the final table will stand. If the final table shows teams in top or bottom positions that could have been "caught" if the season had been able to be completed, the final positions and promotion/relegation spots shall be determined by the results of one complete first round."

So I've gone through and worked out the results of the first full round played (the first game that everybody played against each other). The table (top four) is as follows:

                      P W D L Pts
Marist Inter           9 7 2 0   23
Waterside Sealords     9 6 2 1   20
Uni Stallions          9 6 1 2   19
Waterside Magpies      9 6 0 3   18

As opposed to current positions:

                      P W D L GF GA Pts
Waterside Magpies     13 10 0 3 42 21 30
Waterside Sealords    13 9 2 2 45 11 29
Marist Inter          13 8 2 3 31 18 26
Uni Stallions        13 7 1 5 30 19 22

So provided I have added the first round up the same way Cap Football will, Marist should start rain dancing (not that they need to) and Magpies need as many points as possible between now and whenever the season ends.

I'm certainly not saying this out of any club loyalty to them, but if the 7-odd game winning streak Magpies were to get screwed by this and Marist got promoted it would be a complete and utter shambles.

Dunno about you, but remembering back to a couple of games that were cancelled on nice sunny days earlier in the season makes me pretty angry right now.

I think we might need to launch a class action to get part of our subs back for unplayed games. :)

BTW, Uni have played the Dreamers. 3-0 to Uni on April 25th.

Is it the top 2 sides that get promoted and bottom 2 that get relegated?

It'd be very harsh on Magpies not to get promoted considering their current winning streak. The upcoming fixture between them and Marist will be a cracker (and have a big effect on final standings) if the weather allows it to be played!

i've got nothing much to say except this sucks for everyone involved.

capital football obviously trying to keep their options open but they're in a tight spot as well.

i agree with Mitch that we got cancelled earlier in the season in conditions that were way better than this, and now it makes that decision look ridiculous.

hopefully it sorts itself out so that everyone's happy and the outcome is fair, but i have no idea how we're going to get to a place like that

i just want to play footy these next 3 weeks before i leave for the UK...

Well, I'll just quickly wade in with some of our thoughts.
We found out about the Capital Football's plan for ending the season last night, and we're obviously far from happy from it. We obviously feel it's unfair that two really bad halves (first against Sealords, second against Marist) early in the season could ruin our season despite our current 8-game winning streak.
We're also not sure what CF mean by'whether a team could be caught up with in points or not" - does it have to be a mathematical certainty, or is form taken into account as well?
I think one thing that CF can do for our division is to ensure that the rounds in which we play Marist and Sealords play University take precedence over all the other ones, to basically sort it out amongst ourselves. If we're all closer after those games, so be it, but it would at least give us and the Sealords the opportunity to cement our positions in the top 2 if the season finishes the way CF says it could.

I agree that the games between the top teams should be played. It would make things fairer & put the promotion picture in our own hands rather than someone elses.

I think we should give CF their dues - they arent idiots, and im sure they will use some common sense and ensure that magpies are promoted if no more games are played

Im sure that if it is unfair there willbe enough support from all of the other teams in the league to put it right - everyone has been sporting thus far, and it would be a travesty if the Pies and Pints are not duly given reward for a great season (whether its 1st or second is yet to be seen...)

By the looks of mitch's post we are safe either way if no more games are played, and if they are played our destiny is in our own hands, so no concern for us...by the loooks of things uni you should be the ones concerned....

It'd be a shame (assuming soccer is cancelled this weekend) if they don't stick with the same draw for the week after given that the top 4 teams are playing each other again. Would be good to at least have played that round of games before the season winds up given the impact it will have on the promotion spots.

[Update] Doesn't look like this is going to happen tho as the draw is up on capital football website for 9/10 August showing us playing stop out again.

By the way... does anyone else think that its a bit confusing for capital football to put next weeks draw up on Friday when you haven't even played this weeks games??

The results and table after today's games:

CAPITAL 7:

Wgtn Un Elite        3    Marist Inter          3
Waterside Sealords    5    Stop Out              0

Waterside Sealords    14 10 2 2 50 11 32
Marist Inter          14 8 3 3 34 21 27
Uni Stallions        14 8 1 5 33 20 25
Wgtn Un Elite        14 6 1 7 27 27 19
Petone Dreamers       13 6 1 6 23 28 19
Wgtn Un Terrace       14 5 1 8 17 42 16
Olympic               14 4 0 10 26 42 12
Stop Out              14 3 2 9 18 47 11
Petone Stewsmum       13 2 1 10 12 34   7

And yes, we still won't get promoted...

As an aside, today's game was probably the most ridiculous one I've played in (not including mud-baths/trench warfare from last month). Backyard kickarounds with my 7-year old nephew are more competetive that the 2nd half from today...

Have to agree. Would have been good if they'd drawn the round in which we play Marist and you guys play University. Disappointing, but it may not matter in the end since we're pretty unlikely to be playing anyway, I'd guess.

Got to feel for Marist ending up 4th. Up unitl round 6 they were leading, and the Magpies winning streak not even getting them promoted. Unlucky- but that's football!

I love the fact that after 14 games, Uni are 8 points behind us and occupy the 4th place, and yet they'll be promoted and we won't.

But the point is it's not football - it's just an administrative decision made by Capital Football (I won't say it's random because they did consult with the clubs over it).
They couldn't really come up with a solution that would keep everyone happy given the crap weather we've had, but the situation in our league illustrates how deeply unfair their final method of sorting out promotion/relegation really is. I think the best scenario would have been to keep everyone as they were and go back to the same divisions next season. This situation is ridiculous.

Indeed. It's not football at all, this could have been handled so much better.

For a start, the same rule did not need to be applied over all of the grades, and considering all the extra subs that have been paid this year in terms of games not played, it's not unrealistic to expect some specialised attention to the promotion/relegation of each grade instead of applying a one-size-fits-all model to all grades, no matter how unfair.

Considering the respective claims of the four top-teams for promotion, our grade should have had a play-off over two or three weeks to determine the top two place-getters. Other grades such as Cap 9 (see table) should have had play-offs between 2nd/3rd/4th to determine one spot, and so on.

I know it's a bit hard-out and a more difficult thing to organise, but considering how short changed each and every player in the lower grades has been with the weather this year, I don't think it's too much to ask for some common sense when it comes to final results.

One other thing, if Magpies get 3 points this weekend and Uni draw or lose to Olympic (unlikely but possible), then Magpies will be a minimum of 10 points ahead of Uni with 3 games to play, and therefore mathematically certain to finish above Uni if the comp was completed. Does this not count for anything?

One word: Debacle.

BTW, who is pocketing the extra subs that we've all paid for games not played this season. Does anybody know? If it's the council I'll be SUPER pissed.

This would be hilarious if it happened. Wouldn't make any difference, since theoretically both us and Sealords could still be caught by Marist regardless of tomorrow's results.
Woud perfectly illustrate the ridiclousness of the situation though.
