Looks pretty sound - Tawa's luck must run out - some of there back four and midfield should be playing masters - I am picking a 2-0 win to North Wellington

Yeah - all us oldies (and there are quite a few playing Cap 3) should just f*ck off and play masters.  Wouldn't want to be a burden to our team mates and lower the standard for all you young chaps now would we?  On the other hand, you could take the view that since Tawa have won all their games so far this season, whilst being "handicapped" with a number of players who "should be playing masters", it doesn't really say a lot for the opposition they've played so far, does it?  Then again, maybe they've just been lucky...

No problem with that oldbastard - I think older experienced players are too quickly discarded by clubs as they think the "youth policy" is the way to go (ala wests) or there too concerned about developing there under 19 team for the Napier tornie

Yep - fair comment.  That said, obviously clubs do need to actively develop their youth and give opportunities to younger players otherwise they just bugger off elsewhere.  However, as an "older" player, I think as long as you can still cut it physically (although I will admit that the soreness in the legs lasts a lot longer the older you get!) then a few experienced heads in a squad/team can bring the younger players on and help them develop their game (unless, of course, the more experienced heads in question are complete nutters and teach the youngsters bad habits!)

To true there. The younger players do need some old heads to play with to speed their development along. Also if youre good enough, fit enough, there no reason not to make the youngsters earn their spot and not just been handed it because they are younger.

BNU 2 - 2 Wairarapa (played in carterton)

BNU up 1-0 at HT with a great goal in the 1st 15mins. Wairarapa got 2 in the 2nd half (1 a dubious penalty) before BNU scored another cracker - a 35 yard shot.

Tawa vs North Wgtn was a good hard fought game today. Tawa were up 2 nil at halftime. Was a tight 1st half with both teams only having a few chances. Tawa managing to finish two of their chances was the difference, and overall probably had the better half. 2nd half North Wgtn played much better and Tawa a bit worse and North Wgtn dominated for periods.

North Wgtn managed to score around halfway through the 2nd half through a well worked goal. Tawa scored back around 5-10 mins later though and held out for the 3-1 win. North Wgtn were giving the ref a lot of stick (and Tawa a little) and North Wgtn probably felt a bit hard done by. However, in these grades the key is to just get on with it and not argue with the ref so much. You aren't going to get the calls you want if you moan the whole game.

Amazing you haven't commented further on the Island Bay v Hutt match, talk about entertaining!

Lower Hutt went 2 nil up, but amazingly Island Bay came back to score 5 unanswered.  There was some dirty stuff (a player being taken out after scoring a tap in to name one!) and plenty of abuse for what must be said was a pretty incompetant ref.

There were a few yellow cards bandied about and it all culminated in a red for the I.Bay keeper after a Lower Hutt player hacked the sh*t out of him when he had the ball well trapped between his legs.  A bit of a melee ensued with the 'keeper screaming profanities and threats as he trudged off.

The ref wouldn't resume the game till he left the park.

Amazing, entertaining (and slightly embarrasing) stuff.

Oh yeah, a few quality goals that I saw.

I was switching between watching the other games at Wakefield though so didn't catch it all.

Sounds like a profitable game for capital football - few yellow cards and couple of sending offs - another $200.00 in there coffers

What happened Noth Wellington - backed you for a 2-0 win - good result oldbastrad - can anyone stop the Tawa juggernought?

I see your playing Island Bay this weekend - from sounds of energy24.7 post, maybe they can stop you by kicking the s**t out of you guys

Thanks mate.  Oranje summarised the game pretty well.  North Wellington played some good stuff and were tough to contain but Tawa had just enough quality to hold them at bay and see the game out.  Who knows when the wheels will come off the Tawa wagon?  Long way to go yet - remember it's a marathon, not a sprint...

Dodgy refs seem to be a recurring theme this season, but as has been said on numerous occasions on this thread, you just have to bite your tongue and get on with it.  I know it's hard sometimes but you don't do yourself any favours by lipping the ref.

I hope that none of the games get out of hand this season.  The Lower Hutt game a couple of weeks ago was feisty and did threaten to boil over at times, but so far all the games have been mainly played in a good spirit.  I hope that continues for the coming weekend and the rest of the season.  I don't particularly enjoy games that get nasty - I'm there to play football, hard and fair and can't be bothered with all the other bollocks.  However, one thing's for sure, if any team wants to kick the s**t out of us, I'm big enough (and certainly ugly enough) to give as good as I get.  Been there, done that...

Sweepa would be the best one to comment on that brain fade "a player being taken out after scoring a tap in to name one"

The Island Bay keeper didnt get kicked at all. One of the other Isaland Bay players got the ball between his legs and than stupidly kneed down on it and wouldnt release the ball. A Lower Hutt player tried to kick it out (the ref should have penalised him than). The Island Bay player than leaned over to protect the ball as the 2nd and 3rd kicks came in possibily collecting one in the head, all stupid stuff. The IB keeper than came running in for in my view a fight. The IB Keeper already had a yellow card and had also tried to have a go at the ref at half time. He was shown a red card but it took his team mates 3 - 4 mins to get him off the field. He was than heard to say "I'm going back on to take him out so he cant ruin the rest of the game. I'm 40 yrs old so I dont care if I get banded for life." He than ran back onto the field but was restrained and removed. He carried on like a muppet on the sideline for the rest of the game. He was still going off in the changing sheds after the game.
This was not a good look for a guy employed by Capital Football as one of their Fed coaches and I will be disappionted if the Keeper dosent get a lenthy ban.

Just thought I should add my views on the Island bay v lower hutt game...
(I play for Island bay to get my allegiances out there)

I have to say it was a very entertaining and fairly physical encounter throughout with some nice work by Lower Hutt to take advantage of some defensive errors in the first 15 before our other centre back was subbed because his ankle wasn't right (not an excuse but after the subsequent change up we became alot more solid at the back).

From then on I think it's fair to say we dominated, got good ball through our midfield and the pace from Matt up front caused real problems for lower hutt (he bagged 3). The game was physical the whole way through and the ref did have some trouble keeping hold of the game, a few yellows were splashed about inconsistently that did nothing really to settle the game. The sliding tackle on matt after he had robbed one of lower hutt's centre backs and neatly beaten the keeper was one of the more cynical tackles I have ever seen (the ball had already crossed the line before the knee high slide connected) and went unpunished. Although our players did not back out of any challenges I thought some of the deliberate attempts at tripping and checking, particularly at set plays from lower hutt was pretty bad.

On the red card, I had quite a good look at it, from amidst the post set piece scramble. our right back got a nudge from one of the big hutt boys while trying to swing the ball clear (probably not a foul) which caused him to fall on the ball. The hutt player then preceded to try and push/ruck the ball free once before laying into him twice full force with no view of the ball (the whistle went after the first). Our goalkeeper then tackled him (rugby style) off our player - no punches thrown or anything however not pretty or the smartest way to separate people.

However the aftermath with the swearing and refusing to leave the pitch was unacceptable and embarrassing. I also did not particularly enjoy putting on the gloves for the last 12 minutes (I will claim the free-kick save though, not too shabby).

Tawa next week will be an interesting game!

Can only assume it's a former National U-17 keeper and it's not Jamie Cross or Jake Gleeson.

The Island Bay GK coach did watch your efforts in the last 12 minutes, and he feels you can stay in goal next week.

Review of the Wai Utd v Brooklyn game. We started the game very poorly Brooklyn scored a good goal from a long ball (their only real attacking weapon) and we couldnt place them under any pressure. Second half was a different story, we kept the ball well, rewarded with a goal from a penalty, well earned by holding the ball in the box and waiting for the inevitable hack. Our second goal was from a length of the field passing move, well finished by the striker. Brooklyn equalized with a nice little lob after our centre back lost it in front of goal. Brooklyn defended well in the last ten minutes although we should have pushed for an equalizer. Things not as bad as they look for us although we do need the same team more consistently.

My veiw,

Yes the tackle on the I.B that was in on goal was bad, (but if you take 50 touches ands try and be smart about it what do you expect) Yes it deserved a yellow (or poss red), The referee was terrible, he missed alot from both sides. On the keeper incident, the keeper should have been off earlier as he fouled a striker and was last man, Ref gave free kick, poss not a red card but should have been def a yellow, then his other yellow makes two. I have aksed a different ref about his thoughts and he said that the I.B player is in a dangerous position so it should have been a opposition free kick (ref gave it the other way) and a yellow to the L/Hutt player for his actions.
I do dissagree with some of the comments on here that there was kicks to the head, as i have said before please get your facts right, there were no kicks to or near the head!!
as for some other comments about the keeper i too believe he should get a lengthy ban from either cap football or his club. I was also dissapointed to see his club mates not doing their best to stop this peson carrying on the way he did, either on/off the field or in the changing rooms. It was totally unacceptable behaviour from a cap football coach!!

I'll have to disagree with you there sweepa, I though his club mates did a pretty good job considering. Remember they were proberly pissed with the ref to and they were restraining him on the sideline eaach time he threatened to run onto the field.

In the end, the ref wanted to make the LHT vs IB game about him.  He missed alot (eg hand balls from both teams)
I was next to the IB player who was kicked and can grantee no kicks went near his head. The keeper would of got away with what he did until he decide to have a go at the ref as well. (Verbal)
To some it all up, a good hard game from both teams ruined by a referee.

Why is it always the refs fault when there are problems in a game? is not better to have an independant person? the amount of crap thrown at referees in Wgtn I'm surprized there are people willing to referee. I was watching 2 games on Wakefield 1 & 2 on Saturday and there was a referee from the early game  watching as well and the coach of Wainui had a go at him over a decision the referee in his game had made. It time a little respect was brought back into the game.

if you are demanding respect from the players then surely players deserve respect from refs. capital soccer should start selecting who can be a ref because sure as hell some of them are not good enough to do it. And i agree refs do a good job blah blah blah but theres a few out there that really should stick to something their good at

Your right there bobbolton. I keep hearing on every forum stop blaming refs and giving them crap as if it wern't for them then where would you be. I agree people shouldn't be going all out swearing etc at refs. But they want to do the job. There are a lot of them that need to learn to be fair minded and that they are there to ref and not put on a show which some are definatley starting to do. I have heard that capital soccer are struggling with getting enough good officials to ref games so maybe people should stop with the swearing at them. I have seen and been involved in a few games this year and I think to myself, bloody hell I would rather my mum be the ref it's that bad.(no offence to my mum, but you get my drift)

Waikanae had better watch out, i loved north wellingtons off the ball play last week. Like when i tackled number 7, the ball went rolling away and he decided to roll on me. Lol or when their striker grabbed my foot with his hand. Good times
