There was pretty extensive discussion about paying players earlier in the year.  Righstr was quite open that the club has paid players this year.  I don't recall any figures being discussed however.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

10k is nothing compared to others. Mainly just the Rapa who have forked out a bit.

Smithy knows more than he lets on. It was he who was informed the other week in conversation by Diamonds chairman and promptly told one of the Wellington United boys. If that figure is wrong then that is the where the Chinese Whispers got muddled.

Ok. lets set the record straight. The figure was 100K. $$$$. Smithy knew this all along coz I just told him yesterday. He then told all all the players, apart from the player who gets that 100K (its true,  we pay one player 100k and he does F.A.!!!!) that we pay them. Even though they haven't been told they will be paid. Clear?

Massive game for the 100k Titanic tomorrow - lose and they are definitely in a play off for relegation, but win and theyv'e still got a chance of sneaking out of trouble.
Tawa in box seat to reach play off and I'd say they would have very good chance of beating WU, but still find it staggering there isnt automatic relegation.

Keep on staggering Marius, all the way down Courtney Place. C'mon the wharf, surely you can pip Tawa. Then we can play both the playoff games at Adventure now that KP and Newtown are stuffed.

Smithy only knows what Diamonds chairman has posted on here, which is that they're paying some players.  Not that they're the only club doing that by a long stretch!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

You told me that was your Club Chairman's wage.  That's where I got confused!

on the bright side, Cap Footy and the Council might shift you from Newtown next season if you get relegated (Wakefied No 2 might be available, Melrose?). the pitch could probably do with some protection and Olympic would have a good case if they protested about lower grade sides chopping up their park every fortnight

BUGGER ALL TO DO WITH CENTRAL LEAGUE FOOTBALL.JUST A GOOD STORY FOR FRIDAY
After having dug to a depth of 10 meters last year, Scottish scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.
Not to be outdone by the Scots, in the weeks that followed, English scientists dug to a depth of 20 meters, and shortly after, headlines in the English newspapers read: "English archaeologists have found traces of 200-year-old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the Scots."

One week later, "The Kerrymen," a southwest Irish newsletter, reported the following: "After digging as deep as 30 meters in peat bog near Tralee , Paddy O'Droll, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Paddy has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Ireland had already gone wireless."

Wairarapa Paper at it's best like usual - check how they spell Big Jim's name

The attacking brilliance of Wairarapa United strikers Seule Soromon and Campbell Banks will be tested in their team's Central League football match with Petone at Hullena Park, Masterton, on Sunday.

Petone will field a powerful defensive unit, probably including All White goalkeeper James Ballantyne between the sticks and Team Wellington representative Carl Whelan at fullback, and their clashes with Soromon and Banks should be a feature of what promises to be a entertaining fixture.

Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley says the impact made by his two strikers will largely depend on the quality of service provided them by their supports.

"They will always be a threat because of their natural flair but they need time and space on the ball to really cut loose," he said.

The return of proven playmaker Adam Cowan to the midfield should be a major assist to Wairarapa United in that regard and the home team will also want a big game from Nick Roydhouse, another midfielder with the distribution skills to create something out of nothing.

Wairarapa United will also have to be aware too, however, of Petone's own attacking worth. Midfielder Mitchell Pickering and striker Paul Whitmarsh are also Team Wellington regulars and they have played an integral part in their side currently holding fourth place on the Central League points table.

The fine form of goalkeeper Richard Gillespie is an encouraging sign for Wairarapa United though and they should also benefit from the decision to play the
always-consistent Sakeo Valevou at fullback.

He is not only a doughty defender but a player with the speed and inventiveness to set up dangerous counter attacks.

An extra incentive for Wairarapa United to turn on the fireworks on Sunday is the news that coach Keinzley is stepping down from that role because of frustrations caused by the inaction of the Masterton District Council in providing a decent playing surface at what was to be their headquarters, the Pugh Sports Bowl.

Just the three Central League games have been able to be played there this season and without other venues like Queen Elizabeth Park Oval and Hullena Park being made available to them at late notice Wairarapa United's other home games would very likely have been transferred out of the region.

Keinzley's frustrations at the lack of response from council to overtures to improve the Sports Bowl are certainly understandable and it's certainly not the first time the upkeep of sports grounds in the Masterton area has been the subject of criticism in recent times.

Just last summer, for example, questions were justifiably raised over why the main cricket strip at the Park Oval was not suitable for play until well into the club season, and there was also the problem of so-called remedial work at the Park Sportsground meaning wickets there were out of play as well ... I say so-called because the evenness of the grass surface there seems to have improved little because of it.

In fact ,without Rathkeale College and Wairarapa College allowing regular use of their wickets making a draw for club play would have been mission impossible for cricket officialdom.

Sunday's match is likely then to be Keinzley's last home game as Wairarapa United coach and after 15 years of continued service to that organisation nothing would be better to see him finish on a winning note.

Stop Out weren't playing so I went to Bell Park. Lower Hutt 6 Palmerston North Marist 2. LH were 4-0 ahead at one stage. Luis Corrales was EXCELLENT in the first half. Of the first four he scored one and had a part in the other three. One part being a en excellent headed pass.
In the second half he mostly got kicked!!! (I wish I understood more Spanish.  )
Luis was sent off late in the second after being flattened by Cameron Dearlove. Luis had been knocked over* and a free kick given. In between the free kick award and being flattened the ref deemed that Luis had done enough to go as well.  I, guess, I  missed the bit that he's supposed to have done. Anyone able to shed some light?

Pedro Garcia was scoring for fun. One, cliche time, thunderbolt in the first half.

From PNM, Khair Jones shone for me.

The Mystery of the Day, for me, was why the PNM captain stayed on. How much back chat can you give to a referee and still stay on the pitch????? I am sure that I heard the ref say "NEXT time" TWICE...

* polite term.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

For the first time this season I can honestly say we deserved to win this one. In the 2nd half the Mar midfield were outplayed by Reg and Chris Chang but we didn't take our chances apart from the Hicham special. I can't see TW winning anything again  this year if that Mar midfield pair are starting. As for that Derbyshire kid, he's totally overrated, Reg had his measure and Eagers too. Sickening at the end when Lewis slipped and let their striker in, but that's the kind of thing that happens to losing sides I guess. Great game to watch though, Jim did a great job keeping it going and the hospitality at Mar was tremendous.

There was expectation I believe, and like you say rightstr, TW potential.
From what I have seen I dont think he would make either Wests nor Olympics starting midfield.
Cant make Miramars, so how would he make Team Wellys. Perhaps he may know the right contacts? Who knows? Thats what NZ footballs about isnt it?

As for results, Olympic won 2-1 today, scrappy game. Napier had a great opportunity to take the lead early in the game from a header within the 6 yard box, but fortunetely missed. George papousaki Barbarouski scored a great goal from outside the box. Taranaki equalised, however on form striker Miki scored the winner. I think the team was glad to hear the final whistle to be honest and just grab those 3 points. As for Napier their two strikers r pretty quality, their captains a great player. Good win none the less.

Its going to be tough for anyone to catch Wests, however they still have 2 games v Olympic and one v the Mar so it may be a close finish to the title race.

Abba was sent off lastweek aswell as there left back, Rovers played with a pretty young squad but the first goal was quality i must say and Napier rued there two probably best chances that hit the cross bar and upright! But the game wasn't too bad not many cards.
