Ben Turner playing down the grades at Tawa on the field don't know if they have talked to him or not. Dale coaches Wgtn Utd now doesn't he, don't think he would ever come back to Tawa. And whos the hurminator Nick? As for scoring I've been back at left back for a couple games. Hopefully I bring up my 100th appearance for the club in goal would be a bit of a laugh

plus the gap between their 2nds and 1st is larger tan some other keepers you could get especialy for 6 weeks

Wairarapa 1-0 up and looked the goods first half. They look really good when they play their passing game and almost everyone in the team looks very comfortable on the ball.

Tawa equalised early in the second, with Wairarapa then going 2-1 up almost immediately.

Tawa kept plugging away, started to win the midfield battle and then equalised, before scoring two more for a totally deserved win I thought.

Great impact from young Jarred Putt off the bench in the last 25 minutes - he scored the fourth goal to cap a very good little cameo.

And all this with Karl Romijn in goal for Tawa.

This league is ridiculous, no dominant standouts as yet. Watched Hutt vs Olympic today Olympic dominated the first half, scoring a nice goal from a free kick courtesy of Malivuk via Haidakis as the Hutt defence was still waking up.

Olympic started the 2nd half again brightly but couldn't find a way forward and had to sustain the last half hour of the game defending, Watson picking up the ball 25 yards out and placing a shot nicely over the top of Nathu. Hutt had a few chances to sneak a win and Haidakis also had a shot brilliantly saved by Hutt GK ( Fraser? ) . Olympic still lacking the overall team discipline needed to shut out games.

Thought Theron actually had a decent game for Hutt and the tall centre mid Filip? Abba dangerous as usual but looks for the foul way too much.

Only one team in it to be fair.

Quite interesting seeing some of the HBU players playing in different positions and looking pretty good. Still a reasonable step up from this to ASB NZFC level though.Napier Phoenix2011-05-08 18:10:53

Petone have had the worst run of luck/choking ever:

2-0 up against Miramar, lost 5-3, 1-0 up against Napier, drew 1-1 in last minute, 2-0 up against Olympic, lost 3-2 late on, 2-1 up against Wests and lost that as well I think (controversially).

1 point from a possible 12 out of those games. Those 11 points lost would have seen them 3 points clear at the top!

Are you a young side? 2-0 up against Miramar = opportunity to time waste, kick the Miramar players and generally needle them, stick in 2 defensive midfielders/go one up front. All these things come with experience from the players/coaching staff. Tell me you just didn't go hell for leather looking for a third to kill them off?Toffeeman662011-05-09 15:15:24

I wasn't even there mate.

But Petone are not what you would call a young side. Plenty of experience there. David Lane and Paul Whitmarsh are both in their 50s I think.

Hereï¿½s an interesting little tale about the HB Derby. At the aftermatch function at Maycenvaleï¿½s sponsors pub, City Rovers coach, Grant Hastings [who a few years ago left Maycenvale under acrimonious circumstances] gave the usual ï¿½football was the winnerï¿½ speech and wished Maycenvale well in the rest of the league fixtures and in the Chatham Cup. Unbeknown to him [and most other people outside of Maycenvale] their secretary had failed to get their Chatham cup entry in on time and so missed out. Next minute, Maycenvale chairman [canï¿½t remember his name but a bit of an egg] is in Hastingsï¿½ face calling him all the words under the sun. Reports say that it was very close to fisticuffs. Ah, the beautiful gameï¿½..

Water safety cash has been allocated by the funding trust to other sporting codes, Neil Reid and Steve Kilgallon report.

AFTER A summer of soaring youth drownings, the Sunday Star-Times can reveal the foundation charged with promoting water safety has shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars on rugby, soccer and basketball teams at the expense of learn-to-swim programmes.

At the height of the 2011 summer, 35 people drowned in New Zealand beaches, pools and waterways ï¿½ a 46% increase in the number of fatalities in the first two months of 2010, when 24 people died.

But a Star-Times investigation has found the Water Safety Education Foundation has turned down funding applications from swimming clubs and surf-lifesaving to fund rugby, football and basketball clubs with close links to the publicans whose bars host the trust's pokie machines.

One football club, Lower Hutt City, has been given $1.7 million over the past five years, while Surf Lifesaving Otago was declined funding in 2009 that would have enabled it to send two delegates to a water safety conference in Wellington.

The Department of Internal Affairs, which told the Star-Times in January 2010 it was investigating the foundation, said an inquiry into possible conflicts of interest with the Lower Hutt soccer club was "unfinished". Internal Affairs said it had given the club a formal warning about excessive administration costs

"I understand you have been talking to people in Otago. I wouldn't have a clue what they applied for, but we don't have any venues in Otago," Muir said. "You will find that just about all the trusts out there are attempting to put money back into those venues where they have funds."

Compared with many gaming machine trusts, the foundation was "only a small trust". "The trust will always be looking at ways and means it can increase money to the community in terms of what it can do for water safety education. However, that is dependent on the resources that it has available to it through the venues that it operates."
