Bloody tough of Wharfies as we controlled the majority of the game. 3-2 in the end. Tawa dont have any superstars. Not too sure how they are top of the table to be honest - but consistency from game to game - and during the full 90 must be their key. Hairy lad at the back wins a lot of headers. Woody Patrick playing a great game in the black and white.

not sure how their top of the table??
they have been top from start to now... win percentage of 75%, its pretty easy mathmatics really if you keep getting results you will be top don't need superstars to do that - in saying that kaori dosn't have any superstars either in fact id be struggling to name one superstar in capital premier

righty ho.I  see your comments arent going to improve under your new identity.
I'll ignore your lesson in maths -but Mike McKinlay (last years West player of the year), Woody Patrick (one of the best midfielders in the country), mal I (former VPL)  and Robbie Hunter (NZ u-20 squad) would qualify.
Granted - Rooney is not playing in Cap Prem (then again neither are you)

I wouldn't be looking forward to playing LH @ bell park on the Saturday before having to travel Wairarapa on the Sunday....

Instead we will probably meet them twice in a row at the end of the reason...maybe team fiji will have been sent home by them

United can't afford any slip ups
11.06.2008
By Gary Caffell

Wairarapa United will be desperate to end a four-year trend when they play Kapiti Coast United in a Capital Soccer premier division match at Kapiti on Saturday.

The last four years these two teams have met at Kapiti the home team have emerged triumphant and with Wairarapa United well in the hunt for competition honours they can't afford to slip up again this time round.

But it's not only past history which worries Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley, he is also well aware of the improved form shown by Kapiti Coast United since they lost 4-0 to his team in Masterton at the beginning of this season.

In fact, the last four series of matches have seen Kapiti Coast United unbeaten and score more goals than any other premier division side in the process.

"It's a tough one, a very tough one," Keinzley said of Saturday's match. "They (Kapiti Coast) are on a high and they are playing on their home ground, that's a pretty lethal combination."

Wairarapa United too have played well in their recent games but Keinzley notes those efforts were against teams well down the points table who wouldn't play with the skill or intensity of Kapiti Coast. "We were good in those games but we have to be better this weekend, that's the guts of it," he said. "We need to lift the quality of our play at least a couple of levels to come out of this one."

For outstanding Wairarapa United midfielder Mirek Tvaroh Saturday's game will be make or break as he will test out the leg injury which has been troubling him over the past month or so. If he pulls up sore again he is likely to be sidelined for several weeks, if not for the remainder of the season.

Also looking to have a big impact on proceedings will be Phil Gregory, who was promoted from the club's seconds team for Wairarapa United's last game and did so well Keinzley is keen to give him a further chance to cement a regular berth in the side. "He (Gregory) brings a different perspective to the midfield in that he is always willing to shoot and that can be a big plus, especially in close games," Keinzley said.

Wharfies a bit unlucky to get Wests ressies on a Sunday and have to contend with News's favourite young boy Corey Chettleburg, ageing All White (and Ronan Keating impersonator) Mike Wilson, first teamers Ben Feld and Zaan Janse, and occasional first teamer Bryce Howard.

Highlights were:

- The third goal: Z. Janse ghosting inside three Wharf defenders before curling one in with a left foot he didn't realise he had.
- Wilson's free kick: great strike, even better save from the Herminator.
- James Potter getting absolutely smashed in a tackle by Wilson, getting up to argue, realising it was just a great tackle, and half congratulating Wilson on smashing him as he jogged by.
- Shaun Gill screaming out the numbers 1 to 11 at the top of his lungs, not realising that the 6 second rule went out the door a couple of years ago and that all he was proving was that he could count.
- Herminator's penalty save after the referee gave Wests a second go at it.
- Karori defender picking up the ball in the middle of play so he could yell at and shove a Wests player (might have been Feld?).  Earning himself a yellow card for his antics.
- Shannon Minett playing with a purple ankle.
- Amusing exchanges between Gill and Matt Calcott in the technical area.

That's about all I can think of.

It was a very entertaining match.  Some good football on both sides.  A welcome relief after the sh*t I watched in the morning...

Very unlucky to get them on that day. They had some quality players. If they had that team every week they would be challenging for the title. In saying that, Wharfies were far from their best and missed a couple of key players badly.

Mike Wilson made a huge difference at the back.

I have told a lie.

The 6 second rule IS still part of Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct.

I believe, however, that FIFA head referee wallahs have said that the intention of the rule isn't for referees to watch the clock and count to 6 but to make sure no silly time wasting takes place.

Has anyone ever seen a foul given at any decent level for a keeper taking more than six seconds to distribute the ball?

Only because they missed their penalty!

And i'm not sure how getting clattered by the goalie after flicking the ball over him is a free kick against the attacking player.

But i agree, the ref wasn't to blame for the result, Wests just played better.

Their pen wouldn't have changed the game anyway.

I didn't see it clearly but it looked to me like the defender got his toe to the ball on the first bite but went back for second and got the player.

If you run under the keeper while he's in the air you are always going to get a foul called against you.  He hadn't flicked it 'over' Gleeson, he'd flicked it up in the air and Gleeson came out to claim it.  Missed it and hit Hilly (I think) but he was still in the air so was always going to go for the keeper.

There was some genius of a Wharfies supporter standing next to me who went mental when the Wharf were given a goal kick instead of a free kick following a foul from a corner.

Ref said: "if it had gone in it would have been a free kick but we'll play the goal kick"

And they went mental.

Which is amusing because what's the difference?  Ball on the ground whether you get a foul or not.  Goal kick slightly further up field.

Retards.

Need IQ testing for football spectators I say.

how else are you meant to alert the ref to the keeper wating time that shouting a count?

surely the ref can count to 6 themselves.  Heck they need to count to 11 twice before the start of the game. 2ndBest2008-06-17 09:37:21

Actually the whole 6 second rule is very strange.  It is pretty obviously when a goal kepper is time wasting, so why does FIFA feel the need to have an exact time limit (which is never officated anyway).  A goalkeeper doesn't have to take a ground goalkick within 6 seconds and a player doesn't have to take a free kick in 6 seconds.
