Terrific game, Wairarapa deserved the victory I think, showed just a wee bit more polish. Venue was not up to scratch quite frankly, if there was a disaster there [apart from the result] there was no where to go. No room between the bottom row of seats in the stand and a 4 foot high fence above an 8 foot drop. NZF cordoned off 2/3 of it for their own fish heads. Napier Phoenix2011-08-28 21:11:26

Scott Robson was very good. Surprised me as i didnt think he was that good. Maybe centre back is a good position for him.
+1 centre back did seem to suit him. Some excellent tackles. Deservedly MoM imo.
And congrats to the mighty Rapa!

Careful calling Barry Lewis a fish head. He'll give you a kicking!
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Sky didn't cover the game because they lacked cameras in the region, apparently due to rugby commitments.
Very very poor, but not surprising for a corporation with some a vested interest in rugby.

Yep they were all busy in Rotorua filming the secondary schools rugby finals. So so important. Mind you why would they bother filming a game when only 2-3000 turned up to watch? We need to make more of an effort ourselves to get out there and show we actually support our own game. The real story of the day should have been thousands turned away from Cup Final. Until that happens why would Sky or NZ Football commit tens of thousands to televising the game? Lets make it our National game by turning up. I say that knowing it's not possible for every one to get there but it was great to see so many had travelled from out of the region. Great atmosphere, 2 good games filled with all the exciting bits including a penalty miss, shots hitting the bar, goal line clearances, great saves, chanting fans and a final won by a team who pride themselves on intricate passing winning with classic route 1 football and a burst water pipe before a ball had been kicked as they put the ASB banners around the ground (necessitating the water mains be turned off before the pitch flooded). Congrats to the local organisers and NZF for putting the day on, well done, looking forward to next year already.
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

In all fairness Dobbo gave it a shoutout at the end of 3 News ... lol. He didnt even mention what sport it was, where it was played or what the Chatham cup was even about - so nobody wouldve given a sh*t.

TV3 had filmed and cut the story for the 6pm News but they couldn't feed the footage up to Auckland due to a technical problem.

Cheers for the link, I have sent a complaint. I informed them that the winds of change are already here and the old "rugger bugger' program schedulers need to get with the program (no pun intended)
Eg. The premier rugby school in Wellington is Wellington College which has 13 rugby teams, and TWENTY NINE Football teams.
Say no more.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Great to see coal face football emerging from the mine shaft.
I remember when Wairarapa United got promoted, and people were stringing Keinzley up and saying it wouldn't last and how long could he keep putting in all this money and these players would never stay etc etc.
I made a few of those jokes myself.
Phil now deserves his time in the sun. He has built success and is now working on building legacy.
If he's successful in getting this turf and stadium built he will have done more for the sport in his region than any other individual I can think of off the top of my head has done anywhere in the country in a long time.
Someone give that man a gong.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I think overall the day was really good. Good result for our lads. The only disappointment that came out of this was the fact that this is the biggest domestic match in New Zealand, and NZF couldnt even find a place for the players to go afterwards and have a beer and a feed. We all went to a bar in Palmy, and it was good. But Phil had to make his speech in front of people that were actually at the bar watching the shield challenge and the warriors game. Bit slack if you ask me. Should of been somewhere, where both teams could go and sit down and reflect on the game and have a good old football chat. Not saying the pub we did go to was bad, it was actually quite good. Maybe a bit more planning.

The same thing happened last year when the final was at North Harbour. NZF had organised nothing, and that one was in their own back yard. Bit sad.
What were the medals like - because that was another point of complaint last year...

I was sitting right next to the Napier fans and I heard no racism. I thought they were in great spirits.
Complaining about the whistle is a fair whinge. Nobody was bothered by it except one old guy sitting two rows in front of me who took it upon himself to stand up and tell the young ones to pipe down. He looked like a grumpy Santa Claus. Was that you?
Massive overreaction.
NCR fans were tremendous. Turned out in force. Were decked out in club colours, and made loads of noise for their team all the way to the end of the match. They should be congratulated.

Yeah. There were a few comments about the Islanders that pushed boundaries.
However the old lad Frazer sitting next to me was a very, very good man.

Yeah you're right. What we should do is encourage nobody to go, and ensure that everyone who goes sits down and claps politely when successful play is achieved.
News, you are regularly heard in the Fever Zone yelling out "f*cking tw*t" and "c*nt" but now you're upset about a couple of "comments...that push the boundaries".
I went to the final last year. Nobody chanted, there were no whistles, vuvuzelas, pots and pans, or colourful shouts. It was dull as dishwater.
Stop whinging you lot.
And stop being so f*cking PC and sactimonious.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

No. I think it was how you interpret what was said rather than any out and out racism that I remember. I thought it was close to questionable. Smith thought it a little further away. If it was genuinely out of order we're the sort of people to have words.
Still, Smith is firing up everywhere today. Good to see him angrying up the blood...

NZF are not renowned for spending money. However, from what I have read their peformance for the Chatham Cup final was a disgrace, especially with the millions of dollars they got from the WC.
