I thought I saw it as the 14th of Sept but now I see on NZF it's down as the 15th. Any idea which is right?

NZ football have stated is the 15th Sept.

Huh? They are both on the 15th?  I confused.

I hope the draw for the next round is a 'national' draw.  Or is that the next round?

ASB Women’s Knockout Cup Final September 15

And a good marketing reason to hold both ASB Cup final in Christchurch is they can be played at ASB Football Park. Plenty of ASB signage already down at the Park.

Yes, I agree it should be held in Chch . ASB park is a superb venue and they always get a big crowd . When we were there for ASB Premiership the whole day was memorable , the hosts made use very welcome

The cost will be neutral for the teams. Either way NZF have to fly two teams to either auckland or CHCH . The only extra cost will be the  staff at NZF

Sweet. And if it could please be on the 14th, I'm away on the 15th. In Auckland actually.... might be perfect either way.

Not that I'm simply looking out for my best interests...

Much as I enjoy going to English Park ("ASB Football Park") for ASB Premiership games, it just doesn't have an adequate capacity for a Chatham Cup final as it only seats about 700 - and only about 400 of those seats are covered if it rains. Hence the turn-out would be minimal if it rained that day. Even with temporary seating the stadium capacity would only be about 1200 seated.
For those outside of Christchurch who've never been to the ground here is a photo of the tiny stand:
Just adequate for national league or the sort of sized stadium a good local club club should aspire to (Christchurch clubs have nothing near as good as Central United's Kiwitea St in Auckland) but sad for a big game like a national Cup Final.
I had a letter published in the local "Press" newspaper complaining about the City Council's lack of vision in building a stadium with such a low capacity as the city's premier football ground a year or two before it was built.
With QE II destroyed, the lack of a decent mid-sized venue for major football matches and other sport is coming home to roost.
To me, nearby Rugby Park with its much larger capacity would be preferable (the Canterbury rugby league final was played there a few weeks ago very successfully with a crowd of about 2500 and Canterbury played its ITM Cup rugby games there after the quakes with TV coverage etc.) Canterbury Rugby League enthuse about Rugby Park, St Albans: http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=0-4977-0-0-0&sID=64815&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=25001702

Pretty sure I read on YF that the O-League final was played in the middle of a freezing windy field with no amenities. I think English Park is a top venue and will look good full for the first time in ever.

Agreed, squeeze 'em in!

Some times you've just gotta make do with what you've got. Far better than Memorial Park in Palmy and they made that work ok.

North Harbour egg ball team plays at home on the friday night (13th), so North Harbour stadium will be available on Sun 15th.

My moneys on the games being held there.

I was speaking to someone at a game last night who brought up a very good point. It is been an age since Christchurch has had an opportunity to have a final and this is it. Would there ever be a another time where we could have 2 finalists?  Hopefully so but yer. Would be a real slap in the face if Auckland get it again when Christchurch has a purpose built facility perfect for the occasion.

Thoughts?

NZF made the right decision for football in awarding Welly the WC qualifier. Dare we hope for 2 in a row?

But will the North Harbour pitch be playable to a good standard?

Sep 15: Cashmere listed first. Coincidence, alphabetical, or home team?

All over Twitter.

Sometimes wonder if a neutral venue should host the final. I guess NZF actually want some sort of half decent crowd.

Guess they also can't afford to fly two sides away from their home city.

I think he means a neutral venue would double the cost to NZ Football AW i.e. they would then be paying for 4 teams to travel and possibly stay overnight.

This. Was talking about the two mens teams, not even considering the womens teams whem making my point. So yes. I don't think a neutral venue was ever a possibility.

Can anyone really think of a compelling argument in favour of a neutral venue anyway?

Against: more cost, less crowd.

Christchurch will get excited about these games I reckon. I'm tempted to head down.

Great we've got the finals - but English Park is a small ground and although there will be a lot of interest, how many will fit into the ground even with extra seating - 1200? If it rains few will turn up because there's only 400 covered seats in the stand.
Shame QE II Stadium was destroyed as it would have been played there as most major football events were - but shame on the City Council for scaling down the initial plans for English Park  which was to have a much larger stand and more seating. Not a good effort for the premier football ground in the country's second biggest city.

Neutral park in the big comps overseas seems to be the norm - Wembley for FA Cup, CL Final at a pre-determined venue etc.

I guess the rationale is to provide a venue that favours neither team and gives an even platform for the final to be contested.

But given the scale of the Chatham Cup and the resources available to NZF then holding it in the city of one of the finalists makes more sense. Plus as mentioned by many the crowd would likely be pretty poor in a neutral city.
