Still pretty surreal for me.

Having being involved with the club for 10 years now this is the closest to victory i've come and i do like the taste of it.

Shortsighted - sure there's an Auckland team but there's also a Wellington team - and I live in Auckland. Be a great opportunity to get a big crowd to see the local game at grass roots level.

are nz football serious in saying that if the cup final was an all wellington final the game would be played "AFTER" the nix home game... surely it would have been better to play it before the nix... i dont realise that this arguement is worthless now but just concrened behind that logic

Permalink Permalink

The logic was that it was tied to being on the 20th, on the 19th the All Blacks play a test and conversion of the ground takes a certain amount of time, plus the FFA demand a clear period before the match.

With a 15:30 game for the Phoenix there simply wasn't room for a (potentially) 120 minute match.

Is there any chance the Phoenix Admin could open the stadium early and get the Chatham Cup Final played on the big screens?  More sales of beer and not waiting half an hour to get a pint at the BB or 4 Kings!!! TSMA2009-09-07 23:17:42

short answer is no. there's to much happening at the stadium that day leading up to the game due to the rugby the night before. someone could try but i would say you don't have much chance of it happening.

Fuck this stupid game

Yeah, best bet is the Bencher, considering the entire Greek population of Wellington will have gone north we'll have a gathering and get the big screen down from 12:00 for it.

So half of Wellington's heading to Auckland, eh? :-)) Good stuff!

Should be a great atmosphere on Cup Finals day, given TKU are hoping to have the vast majority of 3500 supporters (club members plus their families and friends) on site.

I'm aware Claudelands will have a couple of busloads heading up the motorway, and Lynn-Avon will be there en masse as well.

Cheers,

So with all of the greek population heading north, does that mean will will only get about 1500 people to the game at the stadium?

Im not too sure how many of the greeks are going to Auckland to be honest...will be interesting to see what the turnout is.. I know us younger boyz have booked, and are preparing more banners... Any ideas for banners? or chants...

Empty stands at NHS are always good for "hotbed of football, it's just a hotbed of football"

A good build up for the cup game on the 20th with three kings demolishing ellerslie 6 1 on tuesday with six differant scorers then soundly beating second placed fencibles 5 0 today, hat trick to stu hogg and one each to delmonte and finlay

Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
yes 3 kings did demolish fencibles but, fencibles were very poor and gave away some poor goals.
delmonte was quality and put hogg on a plate

not sure if there is many 3kings fans on here but Ken Sargent passed away on sunday, he had been with the club with 40+ years. Its truly a shame that he didnt make it to the game this sunday as i know it would have meant the world to him. RIP Ken

Yeah.  I deleted it rather than make the obvious reply.

Go to all the effort of signing up, just to add such insightful wisdom about a keeper who's got his side to the Chatham Cup final.

Well done.  Top Effort.

If I was CEO of NZFootball for a day the first thing I would o is play the final at a ground of an appropriate capacity for the size of the crowd.

One of the best domestic games of football I've been to was a national final between Miramar and Napier at Newtown.  Crowd was about 3000, perfect for the size of the ground, there was a proper atmosphere and a great match 3-2.

Try and dress it up all that you want but this is a club match and should be played ata  club ground.  That's my view, what do they guys who have played or are going to play in the chatham cup final think?

It pains me to say but Good Luck Olympic in the final. 3Kings sound good but hopefully you an prove, once and for all, that Wgtn is the home of NZ Football now.

Its no longer a problem.
