Stop Out Bourne? Must be hard for smaller clubs (larger clubs too I suppose) to continue to operate without committed people
Tonight at the RSA (Tuatoru St (South end), Eastbourne ) Meeting to discuss the future of the club. As I understand it all are welcome. Latest edition of Eastbourne Herald has the details.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The men's team kick off at the same time at Wakefield park. Hmmmm.

If they did merge, they should have been called Stop Bourne. This could have been the club badge:

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight
If this is the last hope of Eastbourne, maybe they could be called Easthope?
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
It is, as Feverish says, not enough volunteers to make the club run.
The local paper, Eastbourne Herald, made the point that is administrative problems that are the key. Young players are coming through and they have a good U17 side.

No, they don't. They have an U17 side that is stacked full of players who are too old to be in the league and without whom they would not have a team at all.
Really... that's classic. Rather spoils the optimism of the piece in the Herald.
From the paper:
While the Eastbourne Football
Club continues to wrestle with issues around its administrative future, its prospects on the field look bright with the performances this season of its first-ever under-17 team.

BNU also pondering over the future of the club
Apparently just going to focus on the Masters team.

Epic ROFL.
They got promoted from Division 2 of the U17 grade at mid-season, then played their first game in the top division and turned over Island Bay (who are 2nd, and very good). Island Bay said "wait on, we know some of those players, and they're 18th grade". They appealed.
Sure enough, Eastbourne had been playing several overage players. Rather than kill the team by ruling them all ineligible, Cap Football did the smart thing and allowed them to keep playing as long as they only played 3 over-age players in each game (a rule that they haven't paid any attention to by the way).
So yeah, in summary, massive yarn from the Herald.
I'm all for diversity at club level, but can't see how there is any player base at all in Eastbourne.
Yeah I can only think of one senior player who lives in Eastbourne in our current team. The only reason I'm playing for them is because of NZpower creating this thread!

Sad. When I played there, 14thC or thereabouts, only three of us in the first team were from outside of Eastbourne. And in the two mens teams I think the total was about five.

Yeah from what I hear there are a few young locals around who could be playing. We have had 2 of our u17s step up and they've been really good.

Apart from stupidly losing their Wakefield 2 base - why?

Have they thought about hiring someone (paid)?

They had problems form the day they got turned down with offer for cash toward WF Park development.
But put it in a BNU thread. Eastbourne have work to do.

Just my two cents,
having played for the club for two years (and, despite the results on the the pitch, having LOVED IT) - I have to say that the organizational side was nothing short of shambolic, at least on a board-level. I don't have any bones to pick, trust me, because I hardly ever met anyone from the board. We were never even told there would be a board meeting, that we should go along. I think the issue relied a lot with the 'old boys' who ran the Club, without actually knowing any of the first team players. I believe some of these gentlemen just got too busy and that's when the trouble started. There was nobody to take over, because no one had been trained to do so. Other than coaching and/or organizing players for game day, there were no responsibilities up for grabs.
When I first moved to the Club, I had been playing for Vic Uni for 7 seasons and had been a part of their Committee for the entire duration. As part of my duties I learned to do a whole range of things, from organizing social events, to ordering gear, to fund raise...yet while I was at Eastbourne the only organizational item ever discussed was when we would get new balls/a new kit for the season. Nothing else.
I don't mean to say us in the First XI wanted to help, but that's hardly ever the case. The only reason why I joined the Committee at Vic in my first year was because some of the older players (Postie, Krip, Ma, etc), whom I looked up to, told me it was a good thing to do, that it would be good for the Club long-term. And boy, where they right.
Instead att EFC I would hear distant tales of the Chairman wanting to do this, the Treasurer needing the subs paid asap, etc.
That being said, the playing squad was quite shambolic as well. We'd have players turning up late for games, we would either have just the bare 11 or 18 players turn up on Saturday. Fees often went unpaid for months on end. And yeah, last year - despite going through a very good pre-season where we trained and played games for a couple of months before the season started - we were abysmal on the park.
Anyway, it was still a good experience for me.
Just wanted to give everyone an inside perspective from someone who got very involved with the Club for a couple of years.

Also this season there is no word as to preseason training. Apparently they're having a meeting today to discuss it then telling everyone (which I'll probably hear through the grapevine too).
Meanwhile every other club in Wellington has started already. No wonder we always struggle for numbers. I've even thought about just going back to naenae this season since I don't know what's going on with EFC and it feels like its going to be a shambles.

Dont mean to sound like a dick but maybe you should actually go to the board and tell these guys what's going on, offer a hand etc. The last 2-3 seasons at BNU i bought 2 home and away Adidas kits for the top 2 sides, its something the board just hadn't got around to doing, but they were pretty thankful id made the effort and reimbursed me in full. I also set up the BNU web store with PrintMighty in Kapiti so anyone at the club can buy hoodies, tees...etc. Also struck a deal with them and kitted the first team out in polo shirts for a good price. How many clubs in wellington have a web store open to the general public? Its just little things like this that can boost the rep of a club a bit and get people along. Makes the players want to hang around too when they actual see stuff like this happening first hand with their own players getting shit done.
Id have thought preseason training was something they'd get round to doing. I'm not going to go book a field then find out they're doing it.
If I hadn't of heard they were having a meeting about it, I'd probably get more proactive and email around people trying to organise something rather than emailing around asking what is going on.
It's also pretty risky going over their heads, what if they hadn't of reimbursed you?
