Cap 6 down + wimmin will have 8 teams. Here's how it works. Positive change in my book
Games per Season:
- The objective would be to have all teams play 18 matches per season. There would be a double round robin league of 14 games and a separate cup competition of 4 games - so 18 matches in total.
The League:
- The league would take a traditional round robin format. All teams would play each other twice (i.e. 14 game league).
- The bottom two sides would be relegated and the top two promoted.
The Cup:
- The cup would begin at the conclusion of the league.
- The eight sides comprising each league would be randomly drawn into two groups of four (we considered drawing the groups up according to league placings, but decided a random draw would add a dimension of chance to the competition and may create the opportunity for some of the under-performing league sides to reach a Cup Final).
- Each team would play the other three in their group in a mini-round robin. At the conclusion of the mini-round robin, the winners of each group would be drawn to play in the Cup Final, while the remaining six sides would play Plate Finals (e.g. 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4), although there would be no trophies for these Plate Finals.
The Cup Finals:
- We are conscious that the success of the Cup competition may depend on the extent to which the Cup Finals can be established as a worthy event in the eyes of the clubs and players. We want to make them worthwhile and meaningful. With that in mind:
- The Cup Finals would be hubbed together at selected grounds (as much as is possible) and played together on the same day. We want to create an event for the players and a focal point for the clubs, families etc. Options for finals hubs might include Petone Memorial, Awakairangi, Karori and Wakefield Parks. The Capital 6 Final could perhaps be played at Newtown Park. Using such grounds would require the support of the Clubs that call these grounds home.
- Cup Finals would have referees, flags etc (and possibly match programmes), which would be a rare novelty for lower grade sides.
- Cup Finals would be played on decent pitches (weather permitting).
- Trophies would be awarded to the winning sides and local football celebrities would be on hand to congratulate the winners and hand out the trophies.
- There would also be the opportunity for host clubs to add their flavour and ideas to Cup Final day.

They're crazy if they think they can use KP for games at the end of the season.

Underwater Hockey games maybe.
Seriously though, I'm sure KP will be fine this year. Last year's weather was pretty ridiculous.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I hope so - don't really want to play home games at Adventure and Onepoto again.

Ah Adventure. So called because of the mission it is to get there.

looks like a good idea, hopefully the clubs buy into it and put on a festavil for the cup finals!

I know the point of the cup competition is to add a bit of spice towards the end of the season. But could it be possible to have it at the start of season (or during the middle) where ground availability is better and so all the 'final' games could at one location.
Although I guess that if the weather turns to pies again, it would be easier to scrap the knockout competition to ensure 2 full rounds are played.

Does the eight team league scenario mean less teams or more leagues?
Its no longer a problem.

more leagues
somebody can look forward to the glory of winning Capital 15, 16 or maybe even 17 this year

someone can also look forward to losing Capital 15, 16 or maybe even 17 this year too ;)

So what happens to the team that finishes bottom of Capital 16 (or 17 if there is one)? Do the players from that team get banned from playing football in Wellington for a season?
You can only get relegated for there is a team to go up, so no Porirua wont get banned.
A dog with a bone :)

I believe this was done to make Capital Football's life easier after 1 lousy winter.
The league is the most important part of the season and a cup competition is a bit of a novelty/change at the end.
Now they can almost guarantee that the leagues will be completed and not have to face a situation where they have to go back to 1 round and have some clubs questioning what games were used as with cancellations they slip games to the back of the season so in some cases the last game played last year could have counted as a first round result.
The 2 up 2 down is stupid with half the league changing each season why not 1 up 1 down and play-of the other places.

it wasnt done for that reason, it was purely to create a climax to the season, but I think it is a decent secondary benefit given our failure to finish leagues when the weather is pear. I think one up/down would be better too.

What's the bet though that if there are a few dodgy days the 8 team leagues will be the ones to suffer cancellations to bring them into line with the 10 team leagues.
I predict if it's at all wet there won't be a knockout cup at the end...

Fair to say no cup games will be scheduled at Karori Park then?

Great idea Feverish! I like how rather than just shortening the season, Cap footy have added the Cup element at the end. Time for the Aces to bring home the Div7 Cup

Whats so wonderful about playing a cup comp against the same teams you play in the league.
We have been doing that in Masters and really who gives a toss about the cup you only remember who won the league
Why have we in masters 2 got 10 teams!

Talk to whoever runs your club.He/she would have been circulated and asked for your clubs position way before the new format was finalised. We have been doing that in Masters and really who gives a toss about the cup you only remember who won the league

Now now we don't want Cap Football to have to work too hard and start thinking outside the square, what can be more exciting than a cup comp where the teams from your league are chosen by random.

How long would the mini round robin games be?

that idea has merit - I think this year format committed, but worth thinking about for future

I also think this is a great idea. Another idea could play the same place team from the grade below or above. So 1st from cap 6 would play 1st from cap 7 and so on.

But there's really no logistical reason why it couldn't be done this season - the draw for the Cups hasn't been made, so it really shouldn't be too much of a stretch to put the promoted/relegated teams into a Cup draw in the Division they'll be playing the following season.
Where there's a will, there's a way. I'm sure a lot of the teams aren't looking forward to having to play half their grade 3 times this season.

true and fair point.
ill raise it with CF. I just have a concern that there could be differences of opinion about the merits and bc it wasnt the basis on which CF consulted with clubs re 8 team leagues, somebody may kick up a fuss. Then again they may not. May also be some logistical issues, for instance if some leagues finish ahead of others etc.

Why complicate things. Keep it within the same leagues. That way there is already some sort of rivalry already built up. It's a chance for the lower placed teams to take on the higher placed teams from whom they may have already taken a pasting. There's your spice.
Fair enough. Don't think that floating the idea can do much harm, but if it doesn't work, then that's fine too.
I just think mixing up the draw would bring some welcome variety for most teams.

Has anyone thought of perhaps increasing the league sizes to a different number ? Say 10, that way we could just play a straight league ?
