Heard something like 25 turned up to the first Wellington United training but that could be for both of their womens teams otherwise there are going to be a fair few players missing out and looking to transfer back to other clubs. Have heard WU has been contacting girls about coming to play for them not with the offer of money but being able to play Central League and also possible of dutch exchange.

Not a real fan, just pretending to be one!

There were 5 on the clearances list that I saw but I don't know how many of them were senior players. I believe the Ninjas girls only team that Stop Out had split and some players went back to their original clubs.

that girls only plan failed then

Shocking!!! Has this not been the case for the last couple of years?

Wellington United have obviously decided that the men's side of the club is social. The Phoenix have the first team in central league, the next United team is the Elite in Capital 6.

The Women's side has been doing very well and it seems quite sensible that the club isn't offering money, the club has (finally) learnt from the past. The link up with PEC Zwolle is great and offers players a chance of a pathway to professional football. Even if they don't make it what a great experience going to the Netherlands to play football would be

AFAIK, there aren't that many new first-team players. They've picked up Briar Palmer (with the PEC Zwolle 'bribe'), Maya Hahn (from Wests/Ole), and Topaz (from Petone). Maya and Topaz went on the pre-season tour (they were the only `new' players there). There's also Maia Green (from Palmy), and some other younger ones that will probably play reserves. They might lose a couple, but I don't think they'll mind very much.
25 for two teams (they do train together a fair bit) is a bit on the small side. I know there are a bunch around the 14-16 age who might get a game or two in the W-League but will probably play reserves.

Last year, they had a squad of 18 (I know they've lost 3, maybe 4), and played 16 of them most games. I expect that with the change to rolling subs the squad players will get more game time.

I'd put Upper Hutt as favourites though - they've signed CJ Bott and Sarah Gregarious, giving a very good spine.

I guess you hear what you are  told but WU are offering more than that $$$

Ummm... this is a typo right? It certainly wasn't discussed at the end of the year in the annual central league meeting?

2.5a Tier 1 – Women’s W League
* No relegation for 2017
* Team cards required
* Matches officiated by a qualified referee
* Maximum of five rolling subs

who knows

No typo, women's top grade will have rolling subs.

So when/how was this decision made?
27 Mar 04:06

No idea sorry, just know what I've been told as far as refereeing standpoint. Knew nothing about the changes until they were ann

Happy to see that common sense has prevailed:

chances of SO and Rapa being pumped?

Founder

29 Mar 22:01

It doesn't really make a difference to me if they get pumped or not. I get the feeling CF will claim a win either way:

If they get pumped - "this is why we needed to get rid of relegation. Now they can use the stability in the league to strengthen"

If they don't - "see its stabilised the league"

High, but I can't see them getting pumped like Valeron and Massey did last year. Maybe 8s. Not 17 or 19.

No rolling subs now? Massive result!

So Capital Football  came up with this cunning plan after hiring a consultant! What a waste of money.

I feel sorry for players in capital premier grade who have no chance of getting promotion this year while teams such as Stop Out will take hidings most weeks and get to stay up so they can get hammered again next season.

Rapa beat Seatoun didn't they.  Not the other way round???

12-0 is pumped.  Lets be honest.

PART of the reason to have the new W league was to develop the regions players without other regions side taking spots in the league etc.

Well what a joke.  a 6 team league where 3 sides will be a lot stronger then there other 3.  Stop Out are in for a long season.  well 15 games, which in most regions doesnt even constitute a league.  Or are they doing 4 rounds and playin ech other 4 times.  Oh the motivation and excitement that would offer players and coaches.

Capital Footy look to have got this one wrong.

07 Apr 04:11

Very true - the end result did not reflect what the majority around the table thought, proposing a larger "local" top league that would have included some of the clubs that are now suspended in purgatory. I know SO's communications to the consultants was to include the teams that contested at the top of 2016's WPL...as others have noted, surely the only way that would have grown the number of local players being offered a chance to have a crack at the highest standard of local football.

good ethics in football has died I'm sorry to report as resent history of the actions of CF and some local clubs have shown,

The sad thing is that the apathy of the people who could stop this back room deal brokering will plant the seeds for the future generations loss of faith and trust in the governing body.

19k is not a expenses bill…...

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Some more worthwhile games in the well planned  and thought out move to develop players and football pathways for the ladies.  cough cough ;(

Stop Out vs Upper Hutt was shifted off Hutt Park 2 (in amazing condition), to Hutt Park 3 (in awful condition), just so a Cap 1 game could be played on #2.

If Capital Football want equality and want to grow the league, is shifting games off pitches so that the mens third division can play on the pitch instead the way to do it?

A friend of mine forwarded me this:

Hi all

I sent out an email at the end of February advising clubs that Kelly Cup was compulsory for all W League and Premier teams this year.

Having put up the draw I have since been contacted by a number of teams saying they won’t have a team for the game this Friday and want to default.

The default fee for the Kelly Cup is the same as if you default a W League and Premier game - $ 2,000.00

I appreciate that teams are struggling for numbers so if you contact your opposition and they are happy to reschedule then I will help you find another time and date to play the game – it must be played prior to the next round which is the 24th/25th June.

If the opposition do not want to change the game it will go ahead as scheduled.

If you are not the person at your club that is involved in this can you please send it to the person who is – information does not seem to be flowing as it should

Please find attached the regulations for the competition.

If you require contact information for your opposition please let me know

...

I can see that Capital Football are continuing to put their stakeholders first.
Compulsory to enter / Schedule said games over Easter weekend / $2,000 to withdraw.

Gee  the Chatham Cup is not compulsory.

If you are in Capital Premier you must enter The Kelly Cup or get a $2k fine and if you win Capital Premier then sorry, you cannot get promoted.

ask for a copy of the consultants recommendations when a team gets done by double digits and their moral is low which affects squad retention - yet they are stuck in that grade because there is no relegation. Ta

Or maybe the weather can make the sensible decision that the governing body have failed to do...
