I thought to ignore child abuse was now illegal?

The boundaries have yet to be determined. Where will the perimeter be set?

Aren’t the parents totally obliged to condemn the abuse by law or face 10 yrs in prison?

Maybe this should be used as a case in setting a precedent for the boundaries?

If the ref has neglected or compromised his role in maintaining player safety during the match, which:

·         Results in injuries whilst he has his back turned (thus neglecting them) or,

·         Allows a child to writhe around in pain, without giving permission for him to be attended to (only the ref can allow people to enter the field of play), causing them further duress whilst doing so or,

·         Allows 'from behind' or 'studs up' dangerous tackles, without penalty (which are classed as serious fouls and carry a red card caution last time I checked),

 All of which are potentially considered as child abuse.

The parents to sit back and say nothing, as most suggest, can be potentially seen as contributing to the neglect and subject them to possible imprisonment.

ALLEGEDLY David Adams could be a good case scenario to set the broader boundaries of this new legislation, volunteer or not, his neglect could be seen to be held accountable for, don’t you think?

Would it be too much to arks the IBU parents to talk to their club and the Wharf parents to their club official?

I sincerely apologise for my regrettable actions during an 11th Grade match on the 12th of May.

I apologise to my Family; Friends; IBUAFC Junior and Senior Clubs; Waterside Karori AFC; Capital Football and Associated Clubs.

For all my love and efforts that go into my wonderful Club, it pains me to have brought IBUAFC’s proud name into disrepute by my inappropriate, inexcusable and deeply regrettable actions.

I am extremely disappointed that I have also brought the wider Football Community and Football in general into disrepute with my behaviour and its subsequent attention in the media.

The last 3 weeks, in the aftermath of the event, have been a rollercoaster of emotions for me, culminating in having to endure public humiliation and traumatic emotions that have questioned my sanity at times. I do not wish this on anyone and implore all to take heed, that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable and that there has to be a better way.

Like in a nightmare, I have re-enacted the events that day a thousand times and sought a different outcome every time, in an effort to change the sequence of events that took place that day. Sadly, unlike a nightmare, I never got to wake up and realise it was just that.

I have thoroughly reflected on and addressed the error of my way and am deeply remorseful.                                                

Given the opportunity to learn from my mistake, I vow to make every effort to redeem myself.   

That may be out of my hands and I am expecting a formidable punishment from the governing body Capital Football and expect to be made an example of and will duly accept it.  I have accepted to step down as Coach in the interim for 3 weeks on the Club’s request, pending the outcome of the CF investigation.

 No penalty will super cede the public humiliation I have had to endure at the hands of the media and I expect no sympathy.

It might be best to let the matter rest now, there is no need to stir things up again.  A judgement has been made and punishment handed out.

Theres scraps pretty much every week in Cap 5, BNU vs. Wgtn United had to be stopped on the weekend. Im over it, theres some good players in Cap 5 capable of a good standard of football but im pretty sure most of them only play to start shit that they wouldnt be able to get away with under proper refs in a higher grade. Dirty challenges, mouthing off, provocation... etc. Its a shame, it would otherwise be a sweet grade to play in, a good mix of capable footballers in a social setting, but yeah

You'd never get an 11 v 11 brawl at Naenae park. :(

We had an incident on Saturday in the Wairarapa that involved a player form one club verbally abusing the ref after the game and then attempting to strike the ref in some way.  Not too sure on the exact details, but i know the ref has written a full report, and sent it to capital Football/  Be interesting to see what comes of it

He said Gattsche repeatedly told him to "f*** off, f*** off" after giving him two yellow cards, and therefore a red, for heavy tackling. 

Fasavalu denied he was involved in heavy tackling and the penalty, coupled with grief, caused him to lash out.

"I do regret my actions that day. But it would never have prevailed if I was treated fair like every other player," he said outside court.

Yeah, because the referee was picking on you and only you for no apparent reason. OK...

seems to me that he's not really taking responsibility for his actions, suggesting a ref was picking on him for racial reasons. He only seems to be sorry for the fact he got caught, fined and banned.

Punched one of my players in a pre-season game before that season started. Soon as I heard about the incident, and which club was involved, I knew which player it would be.

My nieces game of football in Auckland was abandoned on Saturday after there was a fight between a parent (not related to me) and the referee (also not related to me).  She is 12 years old. 

Two questions:

* I've not seen a newspaper recently, but was there any newspaper coverage of this event?  It seems this sort of thing would be all over the paper if it happened in Wellington

* What kind of absolute cunt ends up in a fist fight with a referee because of some decisions he made in an under 12 game of football?

that is terrible, what kind of example is that to set for kids.

NZ Herald is doing a series on Sideline champs - all about good and bad behaviour from parents.  It might make an appearance there in the next few days.

It's great that the spotlight is on spectator behaviour (to the players, the ref and each other), but in all honesty the times that I've seen poor behaviour have been maybe twice at the most over the last 6 years of junior football.

Edit: I bet I've jinxed myself now and next weekend I'm going to nut off at the ref and go all Joe Jordan on him like he was Gattuso.

Silence, urged by one football coach, is not the answer. Enthusiastic support on the sidelines ought to be encouraged. But it needs a better language than "hit 'em hard", "smash 'em", "take him out of it". 

Oh.  So what I thought was pro-active, positive support...
